So who else has got this bastard flu...?

Seven days and counting. Still aching, feverish, coughing up a lung every 5 minutes and can NOT get warm.

Bored of hurting, bored of Beechams flu plus, bored of my own clothes feeling like they're sandpapering me, and so buggering tired...

And yes, I had the jab. Useless fucker.

Anyone else?

Day 8 here - temperature now under control, cough is starting to recede. But still head-achy / no energy / coughing lots. I think I'll be another week yet before back to normal so a low key Christmas for us. However, I did manage to get to the supermarket today - first time out of the house, yay!

The only way I can sleep with the cough is propped up at 45 degrees on several pillows.

zen1 · 26/12/2017 19:05

Anyone recovered yet? I haven’t been able to get up for 4 days. Tried to wash my hair today and almost passed out on the bathroom floor. Feel like shit and really weak.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 26/12/2017 19:09

Definitely improving, felt better yesterday today I'm completely shattered again. Dc1 seemed fine for 36 hours then suddenly flat again and temp. And poor dc2 is just miserable temp hit 40C, she's off to the docs tomorrow as she's only
1 and had temp since fri.
Bastard has ruined all festive plans Xmas Angry

TheOtherGirl · 26/12/2017 20:05

Definitely improved. Feel totally washed out though and just want to sleep. Luckily have a few quiet days to look forward to before NYE madness takes over.

Tedster77 · 26/12/2017 20:12

I had the flu jab (and the sticker for my ID badge!) but have some awful virus.

I’m soaking my bed sheets with sweat at night, sound like I have croup and keep pissing wetting myself the coughing/choking is so bad 😱😱😱😱.

I did it at a posh dinner and had to leave!

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 27/12/2017 13:33

Well, I'm back at work but I probably shouldn't be. Still got a dreadful cough and I'm so sleep-deprived everything feels like it's in slow motion.

Thankfully I'm only working one day this week.

Day ten for me, fever has gone, I'm up and about but still feeling so tired and washed out, how long does this feeling last?

cattia · 27/12/2017 14:29

I've also still got the odd random shooting pains in my hands and feet.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 27/12/2017 14:43

I’m on day 9 here, the awful aches and pains have mostly gone, but I’m still coughing. And today my bloomin ear has started popping and is really hurting - sounds similar to other posters. Get well soon everyone Flowers

Kahlua4me · 27/12/2017 14:49

I have just got this and feeling awful.
Went to walk in clinic yesterday as hurt to breathe. All obs fine and lungs clear. Nurse said that flu was rife here, Hastings, and I had to rest and drink plenty.

Coughing so much I am vomiting, not good....

whatisthisi · 27/12/2017 16:50

Cattia i am also having the shooting pains down my legs and right down my arms. I'm only on day 3 but feel awful; sore throat, unable to swallow, headache, earache, aching bones. Never felt this ill. Is there anything doctors can actually do. I had it about 3 weeks ago and never fully got over it although did improve and now come back twice as bad Sad

Kahlua4me · 27/12/2017 16:53

Nurse yesterday said just rest, steam inhalation to unblock nose and paracetamol.

I haven’t ever felt this bad either.

Middleoftheroad · 27/12/2017 16:58

Spent a week in bed with a halfway house between the flu and cold. I've had flu just once so know it wasn't that, but it was horrible, so I understand the pain.

Now left with a horrid side effect of dehydration/meds as have not been to the loo for more than a week now and am desperately living off hot water and prunes. Make sure you all stay hydrated.

ceecee32 · 27/12/2017 17:22

Day 12 for me. Came on here hoping that I was near the end but it looks as if it might not be. Bit better than yesterday - I blew my nose (for the umpteeth time) and went deaf in both ears. The pressure of catarrh behind my eardrums was horrendous. Nothing would shift it at all and I spent all day alternating between steam and vicks and a hot water bottle on my ears. Did the trick though after hours.

Today I am still making myself sick coughing, but the 'pelvic floor problems' dont seem to be as bad. Hot and cold - cant be arsed to do anything at all. House is a tip

Problem is that new bloke of about 3 months is coming round tomorrow to keep me company - how romantic is spitting into a tissue !!!

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 27/12/2017 21:07

Flowers to all those suffering.

Those of you with earache/constant ear popping - may I ask what has helped? Mine is driving me mad, even yawning makes it pop and it is so painful Sad

zen1 · 28/12/2017 00:55

Day 12 here, first time I’ve got dressed in 5 days. My fever has gone, but I still feel weak and have to keep sitting down. I’ve got a GP appointment tomorrow just to check cough hasn’t turned into a chest infection, but I’m sure they’ll probably just say it’s part of the virus. DH has just come down with it too.

cattia · 28/12/2017 09:31

It seems like this really takes it out of you for a fair few weeks. I think I'll get the flu jab next year, although no idea whether it would have prevented it or made any difference.

whatisthisi · 28/12/2017 17:28

Ive been doctors today as i was quite worried had it 3 weeks, blood pressure, chest snd everything clear. Doctor has booked me in for blood tests.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 28/12/2017 17:46

what snap - I’ve been to the GP today too, needed some antibiotics for this ear infection. I’ve never known pain like it Sad When I sneeze I don’t just hear ringing in my ear, there’s actual chimes!Confused

Hope your bloods come back ok and you’re soon on the mend Flowers

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 28/12/2017 19:07

You poor things. DH has been suffering for ten days with this and went to the doctors to see if it was a chest infection as he was wheezing so much and was told he had the beginnings of pneumonia! Apparently this flu has been of epidemic proportions locally and they've seen loads of people who've had a dreadful time with it. He's now on antibiotics and finally feeling a bit better.

Kahlua4me · 29/12/2017 18:55

I feel so bloody ill, ant remember feeling this bad for a long time.
I have no energy and feel sick constantly.

Wish I could do something to make myself better quickly!

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 29/12/2017 19:28

Had to cut a visit to DH's family short today because of my bloody coughing. I was feeling a lot better so we stuck to the plan (which was only to chill out at SIL's for a couple of days). Within hours of getting there the coughing kicked off again, and persisted all night. DH and I were sharing a sofa bed, there was nowhere for him to escape to (at home he's been sleeping in the spare room since I've been ill), and neither of us got a wink of sleep.

We decided to come home today instead of tomorrow because neither of us can handle another night like that. Now he's all grumpy at having his family visit cut short, DD is upset that she missed out on an extra day with her cousins, and I feel awful for spoiling things for everyone. Sad

OP posts:
Kahlua4me · 29/12/2017 20:29

Poor you, that’s not fair. Feeling bad for upsetting them will make you feel worse. Dd will be fine though, can you arrange to visit them when you are better?

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 29/12/2017 20:45

Thanks Kalhua. Yes, we will make an effort to visit them once I'm fully recovered. I'm just feeling gloomy because then it won't be a "Christmas Visit".

DH is being a bit of an arse about it. Apparently I'm always ill when we visit his family. (I was once, 20 years ago. I can't remember any other time this has happened, unless he's talking about when I had morning sickness). We're supposed to be going to my family for New Year - that may not happen either unless I make a spectacular recovery tomorrow so I'm quite upset about that too.

OP posts:
Kahlua4me · 29/12/2017 23:43

Best to ignore your dh! Is it just that he doesn’t know how to manage if you are ill?

You may be best to cancel New Year visit to and stay home resting. We always have a party but I have just cancelled it ☹️. No energy for anything.
