So who else has got this bastard flu...?

Seven days and counting. Still aching, feverish, coughing up a lung every 5 minutes and can NOT get warm.

Bored of hurting, bored of Beechams flu plus, bored of my own clothes feeling like they're sandpapering me, and so buggering tired...

And yes, I had the jab. Useless fucker.

Anyone else?

I've got a cold, shivery, temperature, painful cough and sore throat - but can walk and function. DP has the flu - I have never seen her so ill. She cannot walk without assistance, fainted yesterday and fell off the loo, can't dress or dry herself, hasn't eaten for three days. Just horrid.

Meanwhile, nothing is wrapped, the builders havent finished works in the house (3 weeks overdue) and we've no decorations up.

DS and DD appear unconcerned and a merrily chirruping about FC. Grin

I now feel like I've been kicked in the chest from all the coughing. It wasn't actually as bad when there was a load of gunk rattling around in there, but now it's totally dry and it really hurts ☹️.

Ventured out of the house for an hour this afternoon. Still out of breath and trying to warm up again.

Day 5 here and still have temperature, headache, and a bad chesty cough like never had before.🤒😷 Awake half the night due to the cough. Sounds like I have another week of this 🤤 .Taking small comfort from hearing I'm not alone!

Loads of Christmas wrapping/shopping etc left to do, so Christmas might be basic this year. Not a good week for this. Feeling guilty about leaving work colleagues in the lurch - smallish business with no contingency for a week off sick , other people off on AL.

DH also infected (less badly , better at sleeping through things).Teen children not affected yet but I fear it's only a matter of time....

TheOtherGirl · 20/12/2017 16:46

Me. It started last night. Aches. Chills. Thumping headache. Nausea.

At first I thought it might be food poisoning, as I had a very rare steak at lunch (the bullock was basically just napping).

But Dr Google informs me that the intense muscle aches + chills = bastard flu. No cough as yet (fingers crossed).

I haven't had flu since the Nineties FFS.

DH is keeping me supplied with cups of tea and a concerned expression, but he has only been ill once in the 27 years we've been together, so doesn't get how grim flu is.

So stressed. Nothing is wrapped. I still need to head out to get those last stocking fillers. And I was meant to be taking my Mum to her biopsy appointment on Friday, but daren't go near her obviously.

Should have been at a drinks party tonight, and out again Friday night & Saturday. I haven't been ill all fucking year. What fantastic timing.

its going round work - we have quite a few out - I fully expect to come down with it soon - I catch everything!!!

I have started coughing today.

TheOtherGirl · 20/12/2017 17:21

Does anyone know why flu makes you ache so much? Even Anadin Extra isn't touching it. I have some co codamol, would this be more effective?

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 20/12/2017 19:10

No idea why the aching is so bad with flu. I could barely move with it. I was alternating Beechams Flu Plus (paracetamol lemsip-type thing) and maximum dose ibuprofen. That gave me an hour or so of slight relief now and again.

Co-codamol would probably be helpful but you can only take it for a few days, and I've not long come off it after a dental problem so didn't try.

Steam inhalation helps a bit with the cough and a hot whisky toddy at bedtime helps me sleep.

Happy to say I feel a lot better today (Day 10). Managed to ice the cake. Had to lie down for a bit afterwards though.

I had it. It kept going away then reappearing.

I had it a couple of weeks ago. Still shattered.

I was freezing all the time, I spent 2 hours with my back against the radiator and was still cold!
Went to bed for 3 hours after school run to be woken at 7pm by the kids asking for food as they were hungry. I put a pizza in the oven which wiped me out so much I had to lay on the kitchen floor where DH found me 15 minutes when he came home from work thinking I was dead!
I found a boiling hot bath helped with both keeping warm and relieving the aching a bit.
Lots of fluids and lots of painkillers.

I’m glad I got it over and done with before xmas.

SpongeCake23 · 20/12/2017 19:23

I haven't had the flu, but I have had shingles!

Fekko · 20/12/2017 22:02

Oooh that's nasty. Mum had that and said it hurt like hell. Poor you.

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 22/12/2017 20:53

Oh it's just the gift that keeps on giving. Day 11...and I was feeling a lot better yesterday. Now my temp is back up, aching and shivering again and can't stop coughing. I'm certain I'd feel a whole lot better if I could just get some decent sleep, but I can't lie down without coughing.

Someone please tell me they recovered within 2 weeks...??? Sad

I thought I had at the end of November........ Apparently not cause I've definitely got it now! Dc1 has it and his started with diarrhoea. Dc2 was vomiting last night but seems fine today. I'm wondering if it's the same one come back? I had the flu jag at work mid October and have been coughing sneezing and feeling wiped out since.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 22/12/2017 21:21

I'm slightly miserable reading your messages about duration, I went back to work a bit early after Novembers episode still felt a bit dodgy. So now I'm nervous about returning, and due to be working throughout the festive season Blush really don't want to leave colleagues in the lurch.

shewolfmum · 22/12/2017 22:49

Rubbish for you all...can you get some vit c...liposomal or sodium absorbate and take regularly every hour? Elderberry is effective too. Also nut milk with turmeric and ginger black pepper whizzed and heated strained over honey. Let's keep spreading that flumist around kids noses Xmas Blush

zen1 · 23/12/2017 00:29

I’ve come down with the bastard today. It actually started on Saturday with what I though were cold symptoms (sore throat, swollen glands, runny nose). As the week progressed I developed a hacking cough. Today I got up and every joint in my body was aching, felt so cold and couldn’t get up off the sofa. I spent 5 hours wrapped in a blanket with the heating wacked up, but couldn’t feel my hands or feet, even after putting on thermal socks. Now I’m so hot I want to sleep with the window open. Reading about the duration of this thing does not fill me with confidence as I’m supposed to be doing a round the country tour of relatives starting Boxing Day.

cattia · 23/12/2017 09:09

Day 6 here. Temperature still going up overnight, aching, weird shooting pains and terrible sinus pain. Keep thinking I'm a bit better then crashing again. DD has come down with it too. I haven't felt this ill in years. Can't seem to stop the aching and shooting pains everywhere. Weirdly I only have a slight cough although DH has had it and his cough has been much worse. Please someone tell me it gets better soon! Don't think there will be much point eating Christmas dinner at this rate as I can't taste a thing. Tried eating some curry to kill the germs and it just tasted like baby food.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 23/12/2017 13:40

Dc1 better today, horrific night last night though. My temp shot up and wouldn't come down, dc2 woke up at 3am with a temp and despite ibruprofen and paracetamol wouldn't settle and howled for 3 hours straight.
My lungs feel like they are filled with green goop, and my head is fuzzy. I just wish someone would come on and say they suddenly felt fine again. Everything was planned out so perfectly this Christmas and it's all falling down round my ears. Gutted.
Hope people are starting to feel better just in time for Christmas.

Pixiedust1973 · 23/12/2017 14:25

Yes, I seem to have the bastard too. Unfortunately because I have a chronic pain condition & am used to taking strong painkillers daily they're not doing much for this. Ive had enough meds to fell an elephant, yet still in pain! If any of you can get some co-codamol it will help with the cough because codeine is a cough suppressant! Don't worry about the 3 days or become addicted gash, thats only relevant if people misuse it. Those of us who have to take it daily for pain & use it at correct doses don't become addicted! Get well soon ladies!

TheOtherGirl · 23/12/2017 15:11

Day 5 for me.

Alternatively chilled then sweating.

Aches and nasty stabbing pains.

Streaming nose but no cough.

Diarrhoea + nausea

On the plus side I have lost 6lbs.

Cannot recall ever feeling this ill before.

Xmas Day will be soooo low key now. No traditional turkey dinner, just nice nibbles and lots of films.

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 23/12/2017 17:03

Thanks for the advice re codeine, Pixie.

The cough is a nightmare - I really need to sleep but I need to cough within seconds of lying down, and I've never been able to sleep sitting up. Will try codeine before bed.

OMG I can report that co codamol is seriously good stuff. Took some nearly an hour ago and the aches + stabbing pains totally gone.
