At my wit's end with never-ending virus! Has anyone else gone through this?

So, around new year I came down with common cold symptoms, the most prominent being an utter feeling of exhaustion and need to lie in bed for a couple of days. The symptoms cleared up, I got on with life as usual, but two weeks after the first symptoms appeared, I got ill again. Feelings of breathlessness, muscle aches, dry cough, low grade fever etc.

Twice more it has happened, this latest bout being the fourth and by far the worst. I am bed-ridden, exhausted, and this time with a rattley, croaky cough which is producing phlegm. Temperature of around 99.5, exhausted.

I went to the doctors' last week to be told there was nothing they could do and that it was just a virus. I became a bit emotional as I feel so broken by this thing, struggling to get things done, and feeling like the worst mum in the world because I can't actually do anything!

It just doesn't seem to be following any accepted curve in terms of getting better, and I'm wondering if it's going to go on forever!

Has anyone any advice? Anyone been through similar symptoms??

Thanks in advance

There is a thread on this very thing. I am in fourth week of it. Started with aching limbs, nausea and weakness, couldn't even drive. If I do anything vaguely energetic My legs ache like mad and I have to sit down.had the cough but not as bad as some. Know or have heard of loads people either had or got it. I wonder if it is related to virus around at Christmas as I had cough then too.

Silver17 · 26/02/2017 16:18

Exhaustion is awful.

myoriginal3 · 26/02/2017 16:18

There are 2 threads on this at the moment. Lots of people have it or have had it.

Ankleswingers · 26/02/2017 16:20

I had the exact same thing for over 5 weeks. My parents have had it, DH too.

Hideous virus and just when you think it's gone, it reappears.

Hope that you feel better op.Flowers

Look at "this hideous coughing lurgy"thread.

northerngirl71 · 26/02/2017 16:25

I had a similar thing at Xmas and fell so exhausted since then with aching limbs etc but I think if you are feeling worse you should go to the gp again this week esp if more breathless

BarchesterFlowers · 26/02/2017 16:30

Me, started October half term and I have only have a handful of normal days since.

TealStar · 26/02/2017 16:51

Thank you so much guys for your replies, and my apologies, I couldn't see any other threads on it. It I will search for 'hideous coughing lurgy' silver17 Smile

Does anyone know what it is?

I seem to have started coughing up green phlegm so am wondering if it's gone bacterial.

I had a similar thing not this year but before
In the end it might have just run its course but after five weeks I started taking oregano oil capsules and allicin.
I'm on the Tube nearly every day so I now use those Stop Cold type things, the nasal spray. So far this winter I've only had one cold and it was fairly short. Could be a coincidence again but just in case in anyone finds it helpful.
Wish you better soon op.

TealStar · 26/02/2017 17:03

Thank you Alice

I had a cough for 4 weeks before Christmas but luckily didn't feel too bad with it. Went to the doctors who listened to my chest and said it was very wheezy. Prescribed antibiotics and an inhaler for when I was coughing and it cleared up straight away. If it's this persistent it may well be bacterial and require antibiotics? Hope you feel better soon.

TheTempest · 26/02/2017 17:05

I've had it since Christmas on and off too. It's awful and you definitely have my sympathy. Lots of low level exercise and a few doses of floradix and I'm functioning now.

MrsMozart · 26/02/2017 17:17

Me too Sad

You have my empathy. Spent the entire sodding weekend in bed. I'd be bored stupid if I had the energy. Last weekend was brill, with lots of energy, but this one... just had a bath and I'm knackered.

Unfortunately no wise words. I've recently upped my Vit D and magnesium malate, so maybe it's just taking time to kick in.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/02/2017 17:21

Yep. I'm on about week 5 now, ds has had a cough since he had chicken pox after breaking up for Christmas. It doesn't help that we've been having terrible sleep as a result of the children being ill with it, so just cannot seem to shift it. Absolutely exhausted and every day I seem to have another symptom appearing. Cough isn't too bad now, but the constant nasal congestion and snotty noses is awful. I've had enough now. I've been taking echinacea, magnesium and a tonic to boost myself up but it's had no effect whatsoever.

Wolfcub · 26/02/2017 17:33

Thank god it's not just me. I'm really fed up of the endless cycle of being really poorly.

MrsMozart · 26/02/2017 21:43

Now gone into the burning head stage Whinge. So much work to get done tomorrow that I wasn't up to doing end of last week/this weekend. Drinking gallons of water and downing Anadin Extra as they fend off the headaches to a great extent.

Hope everyone feels brighter tomorrow.

TygerLilly · 27/02/2017 09:42

I'm on my 4th cold in four months and been aching the same amount of time too. Cough lasted about 6 weeks. Tiredness comes and goes. Wish it would bugger off

wishiwasacollie · 28/02/2017 04:22

Thought i had recovered. Nope. Sneezing runny nose coughing. Up at this time as nose too blocked. Aaaggghhh. Never had a bug like it. I blame the lack of a proper winter.

perfectlybroken · 28/02/2017 05:02

I'm in my 7th week. Pretty much better now but still having to take painkillers daily due to blocked sinuses. Feel like I've been ill most of winter!

Silver17 · 28/02/2017 07:07

Hello. Went out yesterday, shopping for about half an hour, was wobbly and shaky whilst walking round. Got home and slept, shattered. Does this sound familiar?

TygerLilly · 28/02/2017 08:00

Well I staggered home after work last night. My legs ached so bad I nearly cried. Still got a very mild cold and wake most mornings with a headache. Feel knackered today

TealStar · 28/02/2017 08:01

Silver, yes, sounds familiar. There have been ups and downs with mine over the last 8 weeks - going for several days at a time feeling pretty normal, then suddenly finding it creep out of nowhere and drag you back down by the throat again.

I seem to be recovering (finally) from my latest bout, but it's been a struggle. Last night I was sick due to coughing so much!
