At my wit's end with never-ending virus! Has anyone else gone through this?

So, around new year I came down with common cold symptoms, the most prominent being an utter feeling of exhaustion and need to lie in bed for a couple of days. The symptoms cleared up, I got on with life as usual, but two weeks after the first symptoms appeared, I got ill again. Feelings of breathlessness, muscle aches, dry cough, low grade fever etc.

Twice more it has happened, this latest bout being the fourth and by far the worst. I am bed-ridden, exhausted, and this time with a rattley, croaky cough which is producing phlegm. Temperature of around 99.5, exhausted.

I went to the doctors' last week to be told there was nothing they could do and that it was just a virus. I became a bit emotional as I feel so broken by this thing, struggling to get things done, and feeling like the worst mum in the world because I can't actually do anything!

It just doesn't seem to be following any accepted curve in terms of getting better, and I'm wondering if it's going to go on forever!

Has anyone any advice? Anyone been through similar symptoms??

Thanks in advance

Has anyone lost weight too. I've lost at least half a stone.

TealStar · 28/02/2017 13:26

No, no weight loss. But don't need to do actually quite pleased about that! This virus hasn't made me lose my appetite and actually I've been finding toast, fruit and lots of tea to be my lifelines.

I don't have the cough but have had a cold for about 3 weeks. What is really getting me down is the nausea does anyone else have this too. I've got dr. Appt tomorrow x

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/02/2017 18:50

Nope, no weight loss for me either. My appetite has been fine. And the lack of energy so doing not much has probably made me gain weight to be honest.

Silver17 · 28/02/2017 19:29

My taste buds have gone!can't taste tea, drinking hot vimto instead. Think I lost weight first couple of weeks as felt quite sickly.got appetite back now.

BarchesterFlowers · 28/02/2017 19:44

I have lost my appetite in the last week or so which isn't a bad thing as I haven't moved for months.

TealStar · 28/02/2017 21:13

... and the latest surprise tonight is ... diarrhoea!! Yay. It's like symptom bingo. FML.

Yep, my DM and i have had this on and of for weeks. You think it's gone, start functioning normally, get wiped out and then it reappears.

Ours seems to be accompanied with dizzy spells and heart palpitations, my mum has had diarrhoea with it too. We've tried everything to shake it off! Doctors have come up with nothing..

Silver17 · 28/02/2017 21:41

Lots of symptoms relate to the adenovirus. I had a urine infection along with cough and everything else!

Silver17 · 04/03/2017 08:52

Interested to know where this virus is most prevalent. In Lancashire know of quite a few had it but not in Manchester.

MrsMozart · 04/03/2017 16:22

Back in bed this weekend :(

Made it to a client's site three days and had long commutes on those days, so I think I've reached the weekend and body has gone bleugh. Glands are up. Hot drinks are painful. Head is bleugh. Feel like a very very old person with all the usual associated aches and pains.

Head is burning but I'm so bored I'm going to try getting up again and maybe tidy something.

Hope everyone starts to feel much better very soon!

I'm on my 6th cold since October, this has been worst one so far ended up with tonsillitis! I'm eating so healthy taking vitamins, fed up

Thornrose · 04/03/2017 16:37

I had this for a very long time. It started early December and peaked at Christmas when I lost my voice for 2 weeks.

I started to feel a bit better for a couple of weeks than BAM it came back.

To be honest I've only felt completely better for about 2 weeks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/03/2017 18:37

Still snotty here (week 6 approx now!) but don't feel so worn out anymore which is good.

myoriginal3 · 05/03/2017 12:51

I had a chest infection, vomiting, diarrhoea and exhaustion (so much so that I couldn't lift the blanket over me). It culminated with me in ICU for 13 days, sedated, then ventilated. Organs failed. They told my DP that I might not 'survive this admission'. Family called in. Then I somehow recuperated returned from the dead. The works.

It's a bollox of a dose. If you deteriorate rapidly though, please seek medical help. I almost didn't and if I had gone to sleep rather than getting an ambulance, I wouldn't be alive to tell the tale.

myoriginal3 · 05/03/2017 12:57

Just for context, by the time they got me, my bp was 80 over 40, my heart rate was 143 and my blood sugar was 2.1. I was faint and my vision was going. My whole body hurt - it stung just to touch any part of me. My breathing was shallow and fast.

I think the pain, the fluttering heart rate and the vision going is what really prompted me to seek help.

I was on about 5 IV antibiotics while in hospital apparently while they tried to fight the fucker. Don't be fobbed off if you feel desperately unwell.

Oh, and I'm in London.

MrsGosling71 · 05/03/2017 13:05

Bloody hell my original that sounds horrific. Did you have sepsis? Hope everyone feels better soon. I have escaped lurgy but dh and dd have both been poorly with it. I'm in South Yorks.

Thecontentedcat · 05/03/2017 13:11

I have had this virus, had it since mid -November and only just starting to feel better, still snotty and chesty though! Hoping it will clear up now the weather is turning. I eat very healthily but I've been even more careful to get lots of veg and fruit on board.

myoriginal3 · 05/03/2017 13:21

I don't think I had sepsis, though they treated me as if I did (I think!). I'm relying on DP's version of events though as I was unconscious for 2 weeks. busy dreaming that I had rescued two babies and came out of ICU and rang my family to see how the babies were

MrsMozart · 05/03/2017 15:10

Yikes myoriginal. Thank wotsit you went in!

I'm back in bed. So bloody tired and weary. Stress levels last week went through the roof, so am assuming that didn't help. Tomorrow's the first anniversary of my Pa dying. I've lost a good friendship for reasons I still don't understand. And have toothache, which I'd thought was sinus pressure. I guess it's all adding up and when defences are down the bug gets more of a hold.

I hope everyone starts to improve very soon.

GertyTheGert · 05/03/2017 16:20

Yes I too have/have had this lurgy this - since 12th Dec - started off as flu type thingy (antibiotix)along with 12 coldsores, then it went for a couple of days, came back but the 2nd time as a sore left tonsil, niggling cough mainly at night and constant blowing of nose. Went for a couple of days, back again sore left tonsil, blahdy-blah. And so on until this last "version" which started off as 5 coldsores and a sore right tonsil this time, constant nose-blowing, slightly sore throat at the back. All this time I have felt exhausted with each new episode - only get a couple of days break and it returns.......my eyes are puffy and my nose sore from all the nose-blows!

BarchesterFlowers · 05/03/2017 17:29

Flowers to all - I have done absolutely nothing all day today, too cold for my chest outside, had a nap. Tired and weary sums it up Mrs. I am thinking of going back to the doctors as my chest hurts again and my asthma is bad.

I am meant to be regaining my fitness for three cycling holidays first one in June - I will need an electric bike at this rate.

ToadsforJustice · 05/03/2017 17:39

I am just beginning to feel like my old self and get my appetite back. I've had this virus since before Christmas. I've lost nearly two stone and I am unable to eat a meal without coughing and throwing it up. Nothing will help. It's "just" a virus and eventually I will shake it off. Flowers and Gin to everyone still suffering.

myoriginal3 · 05/03/2017 18:01

Barchester - be careful with your asthma.

Everyone else - hopefully the fucker will leave your systems soon.
