What is this swelling above my collar bone.

I have had it over 3 months and have booked doctors for next Friday. It is above my right collarbone, the swelling is soft and inside it is a movable long thin lump. It does not hurt at all and I haven't had any infections or bites etc. It does not bother me except it hasn't always been there so o worry about things like lymphoma. I know that apparently cancer lumps are usually hard and immobile so it's probably a lymph node....Has anyone had anything like this at all or any doctors with ideas please? I keep swinging between thinking I'm over reacting and then thinking I should rush to the doctors. In case you can't notice it, it's on the left in the picture but actually on my right. The redness is my terrible British tan

I would probably get it checked sooner than next Friday but then I'm a worrier. Could be a lot of different things but worth an appointment ASAP

For ages I have been umming and ahing as in certain lights it is less noticable but I think now I have taken a picture I can see it there I though I had better get it looked at. My worse fear is the doctor saying that they can't see or feel it and feeling like i'mtime wasting.

I think they'd much rather check you out and find nothing at all but that said from the picture there is a clearly defined lump/swelling there. Hopefully nothing to worry about

Could well be a benign fatty lump called a lipoma, it's a common site and matches your description. Your GP will probably send you for an USS, just to reassure.

I was going to say fatty lump too but go sooner rather than later

Is it in the dip above the collarbone? Any swelling in that area needs to be checked asap, my dd had a lump there (supraclavicular area) in the left side it was Hodgkin's but the lump was hard like an eraser and wasn't moveable and you couldn't see it just by looking at the neck you had to feel for it.
I'm not saying this to scare you but to tell you the difference in what yours looks like to what my dds was like which was lymphoma. There are quite a few things it can be so don't worry yourself too much.

Thanks Verystressed for your reply. The swelling you can (just about see) is soft and inside it is a movable long thing that moves up and down as I touch it. It is sitting on top of my collar bone as I feel it if that makes sense. I am still currently booked for Friday and hopefully from what you are saying mine is different. I hope your dd is ok and recovered now xx

Yours sounds like an enlarged lymph node rather than an actual lump on the lymph node, I can see the swelling in the photo but there are loads of reasons for that, but it's always good to have any enlarged lymphs checked as you are getting done.
Come back here after Friday let us know how you got on at the doctors, I'll check back but try not to worry I've read so much about lumps and enlarged glands and the majority turn out to be nothing sinister.

Hello. Have been to docs and she wasn't worried but has booked an ultrasound to be safe. I think it may even be a touch smaller but she did say she could see it. I'm glad I went as I'm going on holiday next Wednesday and I feel less worried now.

Good news, that's a relief

That's good news they'll be able to tell on ultrasound of it needs to be investigated further. Kept us posted.

I had my ultrasound yesterday and the doctor said it was all ok. He said he could see lymph nodes on the same side of my neck but they were not worrying so that's a relief. I will go back to my doctor though as I still don't feel right and have noticed a lymph gland on my groin which I have never felt before, however, what he said is reassuring so I feel much better about things.

That's great news Meg, they can tell from an ultrasound if the nodes are reactive or not and whether they are something to investigate further, so sounds like they aren't suspicious
But def go back to the doc, you do need to keep an eye on the enlarged lymphs but it's likely to be an infection as you don't have symptoms like night sweats, itching, fever or weight loss.

Hello, no still there but didn't cause any further bother so just one of those things. Get it checked out though just to be safe.

Thank you for replying, I'm glad nothing came of yours. I've had them for months so didn't think they would go away, I've had them checked out, doc doesn't seem concerned, thinks it may be muscle pushing forward when head is tilted back as the swellings arent as noticable otherwise. Waiting on blood results to put my mind at ease though.

Hey Meg! I too have the same issue. I've been dealing with it for probably about a year. My GP basically brushed it off. I have it mostly on the left side, however on the right side sometimes too. Any updates on yours? I haven't yet but plan on scheduling an appt soon, but not sure what type of Dr to go to for this. Did you go to a general surgeon? Any advice would help.
