What is this swelling above my collar bone.

I have had it over 3 months and have booked doctors for next Friday. It is above my right collarbone, the swelling is soft and inside it is a movable long thin lump. It does not hurt at all and I haven't had any infections or bites etc. It does not bother me except it hasn't always been there so o worry about things like lymphoma. I know that apparently cancer lumps are usually hard and immobile so it's probably a lymph node....Has anyone had anything like this at all or any doctors with ideas please? I keep swinging between thinking I'm over reacting and then thinking I should rush to the doctors. In case you can't notice it, it's on the left in the picture but actually on my right. The redness is my terrible British tan Blush

Hi Bridget, mines is bigger on the left also, sometimes not so much on the right. My Doctor brushed it off at first but I've since had low iron levels and so they've decided to have it checked out. I have an appointment at they maxillofacial surgery in the coming fortnight. Definitely worth having it checked out. I'm hoping it's nothing but I really am worried. Take Care.

bridgetm14 · 25/04/2018 11:55

Hi Emma, it is a bit concerning for sure. I plan on making an appt I'm thinking with a gen surgeon in the area I live since I know he has experience with lymphoma in the neck (a friend of mine used him years ago for it) hoping he can at least rule the "c" word out! When is your appointment for? Can you please keep me updated??

emmas0314 · 26/04/2018 09:27

Yeah you should do so, the sooner the better! My appointment is May 9th, I will certainly keep you updated.
Are you in the states? Here in the UK, our appointments are generally made with a GP and they refer you to the appropriate specialist.
Just last year I had suspicions of lymphoma, I have hard lymph nodes on my right side of my neck and was referred for a biopsy. The biopsy was never done and they ruled out any concerns with an ultrasound instead.

bridgetm14 · 06/06/2018 17:29

Hey Emma, I don't know why I wasn't notified of the last message you posted. I am in the states. What did you find out at your appointment?

bridgetm14 · 06/06/2018 17:36

I also want to say that I went for my yearly check up with my gyno and there was a small area, lump "thickened" is what she called it. So I have a mammogram scheduled for Monday 5/11. I didn't know if there's any relation or even could be so I researched that and swelling above the collarbone could also be a symptom of breast cancer. So of course I'm truly freaking out. I'll let you know what if anything I find out. I still don't know if the two are related but hope to get some clarity soon.

cathylo · 24/07/2018 21:58

Redmaizy · 29/09/2018 16:20

To megan Griffin. I have had the swelling you have for years on both sides. Doctors aren't concerned about it so I dont worry. I truthfully have not got an answer to why.

Cheryl2271 · 25/11/2018 08:54

I got the same going on,been a cancer survivor for 17 yrs but this this is worrying me.Just noticed it last week. But it’s swollen more on my left side of collar bone but it’s swollen on both😢

Doglover4 · 09/01/2019 02:21

I have this same problem. It is worse on the left side. My neck is incredibly stiff and I actually have a "hump" on the back of my neck. I went to probably 11 doctors - 4 years ago and got nowhere. I actually had one doctor tell me "that is just you - that is how your body is". They did find herniated disks in my neck which they said caused the hump. But the puffiness above the collarbone has been there for years and nobody can explain it. I started taking CBD oil which is anti flammatory and it seems to help my neck pain and some of this puffiness seems to be improving. But who knows what it is.

jessstan2 · 09/01/2019 02:39

Thyroid nodule?
Have it checked out.

Donk0306 · 21/01/2019 01:38

I have the EXACT same thing going on on my left side. It flares up while I’m at work, then inflammation decreases once I get home.
I work 12 hour nights as a nurse. I wonder if it has to do with feet and pressure points?? I have no clue...but it is so weird.

Gjayne89 · 20/02/2019 14:11

I have the swelling/puffiness on one side not as noticeable to others like the picture above but it's there. I've been to about 20 different Drs a specialist with nerves and physiotherapy as I have back and neck issue & they all said its was the muscle as when I press on the "bulge"i feel nothing underneath that I shouldn't. X I have noticed it gets bigger when I lift heavy things or if I'm on my feet all day. But any bulge swelling lumps should always be checked out as the worry will drive you crazy and make you sick. When you can just get straight to Drs and if your not happy book in again different Dr and continue till you are happy. This is coming from someone who has suffered with anxiety since I was 9year olds. Hope you are all well though. Keep smiling and stay positive❤

I found this thread and I am excited. I finally know that I am not alone in this. My story is much like all of the above.
I FOUND SOMETHING......tonight I also found an article
"Supraclavicular Fat Pads as the Chief Complaint of Cushing's Syndrome"
I think this is what I have. I am going to my doctor as soon as possible to be tested.

Braidon11 · 07/03/2019 17:07

Doglover4, I have exactly the same thing. Swelling on the left side with a hump on the back of my neck. My doctor sent me to have an Ultrasound and it didn't show anything so then he sent me for a CT Scan and it still didn't show anything but there is definitely something wrong. Do you have pain with yours? I do and right now I'm not able to sleep due to the pain. He told me to go to Physical Therapy but I just haven't felt like it yet. Let me know if you find out anything please.Smile

Worriedmummm · 08/03/2019 19:51

Hi all, new to this, I found the exact same thing today... swelling on my left side above my collar bone. I’m worried sick as just finding it, plan to go to doctor next week. Can it have anything to do with hormones as it’s time of the month but never had it before, but I have put on weight recently so could it be fat? I’m so so worried I’ve cried worrying. What’s the outcome of everyone else’s swelling? It’s gunna be on my mind allllllll weekend 😢😢😢😢

marcelus12345 · 15/03/2019 19:02

Hello. Did you find out what was the problem with that swollen?

ploreyes11 · 24/03/2019 13:35

I am glad I found this thread! I am from the states. Same thing, about a week ago, I have a lump, not hard but soft and mushy above my left collar bone base of neck. I am a nurse and we all know never diagnose using internet. I am freaking out! Have a doctor appt next week :(

pyork · 05/04/2019 18:17

I have the same, larger on left. That area is part of the lungs, I didn't know that until my doc told me. Doc wasn't too concerned about it though. Scheduled X Ray and blood test, blood test came back good, Xray showed inflammation in my lungs, gave me antibiotics to take 3 times a day for 10 days.

pyork · 05/04/2019 21:44

My doc didn't schedule Xray because of swelling, I was having a hard time breathing, that's why I got Xray

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 06/04/2019 12:55

Ploreyes11 hope you are ok and try not to freak out most lumps are nothing sinister but good you're getting checked. My dds lump was hard so hopefully a soft lump is a good sign.

Worriedmummm did you go to the docs and find anything out about your lump?

pyork · 07/04/2019 01:41

After 10 days on antibiotics my "puffys" are almost completely gone.

QueenBees · 22/04/2019 14:17

Hi MegGriffin.... was just reading your post and was wondering if the docs suspected Cushings Disease? I have the same swelling but on both sides of my neck and in doing my own online research I’m concerned that it could be Cushings. I have had these swollen fatty pads for a while now but haven’t had them checked out yet.
