Yazo, you will have a physical examination by a doctor. You may then be sent for a mammogram, but as you are only 29 this may not happen as young breast tissue is very dense and difficult to get a good image from. In that case you should have an ultrasound scan. If they need to take a closer look they may take a tissue sample, you will get a local anaesthetic but may have some bruising afterwards. If you do have a tissue sample taken you are usually given an appointment to return the following week for the results. If the radiographer is happy there's nothing suspicious you should see the dr again to be given the all clear before you leave. It can take several hours to go through all that. Some hospitals will be quite frank with you if they feel there may be a cancer, if you're getting those signs from them take someone with you for the results appt. But remember that most women are sent away healthy and reassured and taking a tissue sample doesn't mean you have cancer, they're just being careful. Good luck.

I think I'm worried that they will look and say all is well without doing any testing, is ultrasound? If they do say it's fine ect can I request a ultrasound? Thank you for your advice x

Hello Yazozobear16,

I know it's been years since you posted. How went your referral? Is everything ok?

Thank you
