Regarding a breast lump.
Dr did the exam and informed me I have a mass and has referred me.
What will they do at the hospital?

Ultrasound, examination and possibly a biopsy. Don't worry there are loads of reasons to have lumps. I know that's easier said than done. Good luck x

Forgot to add, I have NC for this as no one in RL knows other than DH.

The mass as she called it is just over an inch big.

Do you get results same day?
Will I be at the hospital for a few hours?

I was scanned, prodded & poked and got results same day, all very efficient. Not sure if it is that quick with a biopsy - had one done 15 years ago and had to go back later, recent experience was 100% more efficient and reassuring.

A lady I know went and had, a biopsy, an ultrasound and a mammogram at the hospital on the same day. They advised her to bring a friend when she returned a week later. She said the biopsy was a bit like a staple gun.

The lady I know, is still undergoing treatment. Hers was fast growing and aggressive. It had gone into the lymph nodes, she had it removed and has received chemo and will soon go on to radio. Even if it is, it can be treated. Try to remain positive.

Hi Whatdoes.My situation was got a recall for a week after mammogram had another scan they found something in my left breast .I had an ultrasound by the consultant within the hour and all was well The mass wasn't a tumour

but breast tissue which had folded over on itself creating a shadow on the scan picture.All done in two hours from start to finish

Most breast lumps get referred on and most are still nothing. At the clinic they will do a few things. Usually, see the doctor first for a chat and an examination. Then depending on your age, maybe a mammogram (xray). Then an Ultrasound and possibly a biopsy. Your appointment should be within two weeks, and you may have all tests on one day or over a couple of days. If all together you should get the xray and ultrasound results straight away plus another chat with the doctor about what they think it is. If a biopsy is done then it can be another two weeks to wait for the results, but that should be a definite result then. Good luck, hope it turns out to be nothing.

I know it's hard, but try not to worry. There's every chance it's nothing at all to worry about and if it is the treatment is very very successful these days.

Borrow a couple of toddlers for the weekend if you don't have any if your own, no time to think at all!

I have my own DC no toddlers needed I'm glad mine are past that stage.

I had a mass in my boob the dr with a female nurse present when I got to the hospital did an examination of both breasts and had a feel under my armpits.( I felt very sorry for the dr it was an usually hot day....) then a lady radiographer scanned my boobs, and the results were double checked by the head radiographer dr person? Then they biopsied me in the breast that had the mass. They told me it was the standard NHS triple check procedure. It turned out I have a condition that basically causes hormonal non cancerous lumps in my boobs. But as other posters have said there are many many causes for lumps in our breasts. I hope it all gets sorted for you can I add as well all the staff I came into contact with were really lovly....please on me if you want to aSk me anything else

this was me a couple of years ago. i spent the day at the hospital - physical examination, mammogram, ultrasound and then core biopsies.

i had the results same day - fibroadenoma. i had this removed a few weeks later.

mine turned out to be a kind of rare Phyllodes tumour, so i went back and had wide tissue excision done. my boobs are a bit wonky now but hey, i'm over 40.

What the end of my message was meant to say was there are many many harmless reasons for lumps in boobs so try not to worry too much. Although It's totally understandable I worried quite a bit so I understand how you feel. Also please feel free to pm me if you have any other questions love

Did any of you tell anyone before you went for the assessment? Or did you keep it to yourself until you received results?

Im torn between telling family members or staying quiet so I don't worry anyone else?

I told my then house mates they literally forced me to the dr I told my mum and she was a massive massive help. I found speaking to people really helped me if I'd kept it to my self I would of popped. It's up to you though and what you think will help you best.

I have just tried talking to DH and I he told me not to talk about it until I get the results and I have nothing to worry about because he knows it nothing.

So talk to people on here if he can't talk to you. (Is he maybe finding the thought of you possibly being ill difficult?). You're doing all you can to get it looked at and reassured or sorted, you're in the driving seat.

You are doing amazingly well! I was a massive coward and of going to the dr for a year! A completely stupid and irresponsible thing to do! Our being so brave and brilliant! I agree with the other poster it sounds like he can't talk about it because it upsets him too much. Talk to us if you want
