Ladies..... Liquid iron, honestly.

Million times better than tablets

dottyaboutstripes · 05/07/2014 23:32

You can TASTE liquid iron though (vom) whereas tablets you can't really

jamtoast12 · 05/07/2014 23:47

Few years ago my iron was 15 - took 18 months of tablets to get it to 70!

jamtoast12 · 05/07/2014 23:49

Hair improved once 70 - it's falling more now so I'm going to go back on them ...last test it had gone down to 60. You need 70 to stop hair loss apparently but it takes ages

hashtagwhatever · 05/07/2014 23:53

Me.

Iron 6

I'm currently on ferrous sulphate and folic acid
I've low vitamin d also. Awaiting stool sample results to come back tested iga for coeliac, all ok. I'm definitely thinking something going on with intestine I go to the loo atleast 4 times a day.

GothMummy · 06/07/2014 00:07

I am suffering with anemia at the moment, mine was 7 last week which is rather low! I was sent to hospital by my GP because i was faint, getting words mixed up, dizzy and not exactly blacking out, but falling over when i stood up :( i assume mine is due to really heavy long periods.

I also have ferrous fumerate 200mg 3 x a day.

OP I hope you feel much better very soon.

Those of you with iron count as low as 3 and 2, how on earth are you still standing? I feel appaling and i am not as poorly as you!

Friedbrain · 06/07/2014 00:13

Liquid iron... is alot quicker than tablets..

Get to the health shop...

I was so exhausted I could barely walk, I started to sleep in the day..

Liquid iron, started working within afew hours...

2 days later... no more sleeping during the day!

GothMummy · 06/07/2014 00:20

I was taking two sachets of spatone a day and my iron count was still 7 :(

seasalt · 06/07/2014 00:32

Goth my GP told me that Spatone is just iron flavoured water and won't help if you are low in iron! I find the tablets very hard on my stomach though.

DoristheCamel · 06/07/2014 00:39

I was diagnosed yesterday too. I'm on 7.
Tbh its a relief to finally find out why I have been like a little old lady come zombie for the past few months.
I feel dire. My hair is falling out. I cannot think straight. Renewing my car insyrance last week was a mammoth task and a real ordeal because my brain just does not think fast enough and its all kind of fuzzy. Sad I also keep eating because I feel shakey and faint and have just been assuming that I have low blood sugar. I also have been getting pins and needles and palpitations. I am just a wreck.

Just turned 42 feel like 102.

My GP thinks I have Perconious? Anaemia and I am having more bloods taken to test for that.

goodasitgets · 06/07/2014 00:46

I'm on ferrous fumerate twice a day
Just looking at my results now
Says ferritin 64, iron saturation 15% (low apparently), TIBC 68 and serum iron 10

diggerdigsdogs · 06/07/2014 00:55

I also have low feratin and low but normal iron.

Vit d levels also low.

Taking iron supplement has made a HUGE and noticeable difference very quickly. It really has changed my life but I notice very quickly (2 days) if I don't take my pills.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 06/07/2014 00:59

Try Floradix - in Holland and Barrett - much better than spatone!

GothMummy · 06/07/2014 01:02

Theres a correlation between low vit D and anemia isnt there?

gingeroots · 06/07/2014 09:06

does anyone get tinnitus with their anemia ?

serum level 9 - think it's serum level ,no idea about stored iron etc . I'm told 11 is normal and 9 is not too bad . Sad really as I'd like to feel better but think I'm being a wimp now .

have constant high pitched whistle in my ear which drives me crazy .

I take " gentle iron " tablets for about 5 days until the stomach problems get too bad for me to continue ,then I have a break and start again .

I have low vit D as well .

ExcuseTypos · 06/07/2014 09:14

Liquid iron is not as strong as tablets prescribes by the dr, so please don't swop, or you won't be getting what you need.

I took prescribed tablets for 9 months, the difference to how i felt was amazing. As someone else's mentioned, take the tablet with a small glass of orange juice, after food, this makes sure the iron is absorbed into your body, so you won't get stomach problems.

GothMummy · 06/07/2014 09:14

I do get tinnitus, but I did not realise that it was due to anaemia.

I recently had a bone scan through work, (Im only 36 but it was one of those "healthy women" employee days, and my bone density was very low for someone of my age, it scared me! Especially as Im very physically active with a good diet.

But they mentioned that low iron can be a cause of low bone densitiy and something to do with the vitamin D connection. I have to get that tested too. But since I am currently back and forth to my GP about stupidly heavy periods, Im scared that she will think I am just a moaner or taking up appointment time unnecessarily :( Especially as the bone scan was through work and not through the NHS.

ballofworry · 06/07/2014 09:25

doristhecamel , im same as you feel truly awful , i to am 42 , have had on going low iron for years , i suffer with IBS also awaiting results for intolerances and celiac , iv had full bloods in april all ok , but went few weeks ago as feeling so bad and looked up on NHS site( not dr google )....and alot of my symptoms fit celiac ....so in a way hoping will get some answers soon ...

considering going back to my consultant from few years ago to have another chat , maybe may get more answers ..as doctor said likely to be just heavy periods and to go on iron for 3 months then re-test ....seems a long time to me to wait ...

20 plus years of iron deficiency. Same amount of years on varying iron supplements. The only thing that seems to help is an iron infusion.
Still tired all the time. I feel fizzy and look pale. BP is low. I've been hold there is nothing wrong. My IBS symptoms combined with this coelacanth you think?
ginger tinnitus is connected to anaemia? The high pitched ringing drives me batty.

HowsTheSerenity · 06/07/2014 09:34

Coeliac not coelacanth rare dinosaur fish.

ballofworry · 06/07/2014 09:39

howstheserinity i dont know for sure but i did read on the nhs site the symptoms are similar .... although that might be just me wanting an answer to how im feeling ....which is awful Sad

OP posts:
dottyaboutstripes · 06/07/2014 09:45

Yes to the tinnitus. I'm kind of resigned to it now. I had gastroscopy and colonoscopy, both clear, coeliac blood testing and biopsy, clear. Dr tested also for all kinds of other stuff - all clear, plus thyroid testing, all "within normal limits"
I'd like to not be permanently knackered really! And for the brain fog to go!

Deverethemuzzler · 06/07/2014 09:47

I take spatone and vit d.
I know when I am low because I start napping in the afternoons.

I know spatone isn't brilliant but I can't tolerate ferrous sulphate at all.

So we reckon Florodex is better? What about that Hema-something stuff?

Anyone tried that?
