Just dropping in to say hi and welcome to traviata and terrible. The support here is something special. I hope everyone is doing okay. Best wishes for Friday mildmay.

This dropped into my mailbox today and I thought I'd share it with the sewing enthusiasts. I have 10 or 12 of their magazines for kids clothes and some of their women's patterns. You have to copy out the pattern as the pieces are printed on top of each other. But the patterns are well worked out and generally not difficult. They include topstitching and other details which make the end result look rather good. I have made a waistcoat (which I wear to work), skirt and pair of pants for me from their patterns as well.

Oh and I'm ignoring all suggestions of simultaneous hot flushes and periods! That sounds like the absolute pits!!

foofooyeah · 26/02/2014 22:19

handbags I live near Ascot so not too far away.

mildmay remind me what surgery your having

I haven't had a period since Sep when I started chemo .... Plenty of hot flushes bt bearable as v quick. I sincerely hope that the periods do not return. I'm 49 for christsakes!!

traviata · 26/02/2014 22:25

yes, there's gotta be some pluses.

so far I'm counting;

no more periods (perhaps), as I'm 49 too it's about time, I've had enough of them.
a chance to watch my box set of Breaking Bad and maybe most of what's on the TV hard drive recorder.

errm....

Smile
kitkat1967 · 26/02/2014 22:50

Is that a magazine updating?

handbags - I am taking B12 to help with the peripheral neuropathy; vit E and evening primrose oil for the flushes and want to take glucosomine & condrotin for aches but need to check with a doctor first.

traviata -good plan - through my treatment I watched all of Breaking Bad, Greys Anatomy, Private Practice, Covert Affairs and started Chuck!! Not making much progress now I am back at work!! Which is a shame as I would like to see House of Cards.

goodness please my love to really - I hope she is hanging in there and looking after herself.

Also hi to pickle - missed your updates today - hope things aren't too tough.

foofooyeah · 27/02/2014 05:19

The other thing I have done since DX is develop a serious coffee habit. A good friend was DX at the same time. We sit in our local Costa indulging in people watching, putting the world to rights, and minor celebrity spotting! We can spend up to three hours in there.

Was never able to do this when working full time

reallyreallyworried · 27/02/2014 07:07

Morning all

Sorry I haven't been on. Have gone to post a few times, but then felt guilty because I couldn't keep up with everything that's been happening on here! So didn't bother, as I didn't want to sound self centred.

Had a rough few weeks, spent more time in hospital than out! But saw Oncologist yesterday, and he said I could have the last Chemo IF the Neurologist agrees today!

Part of me wants to stop now, side effects have not been kind with the Tax! But part of me thinks I owe it to myself to just have it and then I know I have given myself the best chance!

Anyway enough about me. Can I just say welcome to all the new ladies. Also hope all is going well for those of you who have headed back to work. And lastly those of you still going through treatment, I hope it is going well.

I will try and offer more help and support when I sort myself out! Xxxxx

Updatingmywill · 27/02/2014 07:36

Hi kitkat, yes it's a magazine which has only patterns in it. No articles, no advertising. It comes with (usually) 3 sheets folded in the middle of patterns printed in lots of different colours for easier identification as they all overlap - regular paper not tissue paper. The kids ones are brilliant as they have patterns for all age groups and you can keep going back and making new stuff as they grow.

Having said all that, I haven't made anything at all since I started working full time 3 years ago. No time.

malteserzz · 27/02/2014 07:51

Really it's good to hear from you. Don't worry about keeping up we all struggle ! Equally it's up to you if you post obviously but we were just worried. Sorry you've been in hospital and good luck with making the decision whether or not to have chemo, can't be easy. Whatever you decide will be the best thing Smile

wineoclocktimeyet · 27/02/2014 08:13

Morning all
sorry not been around but Tax shatteredness has kicked in! still 5 down, only 7 to go.

If anyone is wondering where their periods are, I'm having them, every 2 blasted weeks - not impressed. Oncologist said they will stop eventually, but please keep yours to yourselves Smile
Hope everyone has a good day, got to dash for (wet!) school run

Wren48 · 27/02/2014 08:15

Great to hear from you, really. It's impossible to keep up with the thread if you have loads of medical/ hospital stuff going on, and it is just good to hear from you.

I'm also 49, traviata. I've just had a period following chemo number 1 and feel rather indignant. But I haven't watched a single one of the box sets I promised myself... But do add coffee (or sad herbal drink when taste buds hate coffee) with friends to the list. I've valued catching up with people I would never normally have time to see.

Thanks for the link, updating!

Honeybear9 · 27/02/2014 09:11

Morning & hugs to anyone who needs one!

Feeling much better after 2nd op on Tuesday & hoping they've finally got clear margins. Found out lump was 3cms. Still don't know when I will see an oncologist two months after diagnosis which is sooooo frustrating just want to know when what & how for chemo......

malteserzz · 27/02/2014 09:37

Honey glad the op went well and fingers crossed for clear margins. I know it's frustrating but I think it's normal not to have seen an onc yet, I didn't see one till the surgery was finished and results given then I was passed on to them and had an appointment a couple of weeks before starting chemo.

difficultpickle · 27/02/2014 09:57

Morning all. Glad to hear from Really. Being in and out of hospital doesn't sound much fun at all.

My arse continues to be cause for concern and amusement in equal measure. They have given me oramorph which is a morphine based drug and that seems to keep the pain at bay, although I know the minute it stops working. It feels a bit better than a couple of days ago so hopefully will continue to improve. If not I'll have to have a MRI scan, which I'd prefer to avoid. Plus I've had a ragingly high temp so on two iv antibiotics which seem to be helping but have left me feeling very sleepy. I've managed to eat breakfast for the last three/four days but that's it.

Mind you I'm still well enough to notice my bedlinen hasn't been changed for two days (supposed to be daily) and my floor wasn't cleaned yesterday despite the relief cleaner saying it had in the ten minutes I was out of the room having an X-ray! The usual lovely cleaner isn't back until Saturday. I feel sorry for her as she does such a superb job but no one else makes any effort in her absence which makes her job harder when she comes back.

My hair started falling out yesterday so that will save time in the shower Grin

foofoo you are not far from me. I'm near Maidenhead.

Hope everyone has a good day. The sun is shining here.

mildmay · 27/02/2014 10:11

morning all im still in pjs and enjoying my morning trying not to think about tomorrow much. lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy but think everybody gets one of those.have been told i will be out same day but op not til afternoon,so fingers crosses.i hope everybody has some good news today its strange how little things have become so special right now.have not told my mother yet she is in her seventies .think i will tell her tonight.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 27/02/2014 10:39

really good to hear from you. Sorry to hear Tax SE have been so rough for you.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 27/02/2014 11:29

wren I'm 48, I hadn't period after first chemo session too. None since. Hate to think they might come back!!

I haven't caught up on any boxsets either, and my sky box is filling up as not keeping on top of that either... Lucky for me that is because I've felt ok most if the time, so potter about baking or doing light housework instead.

weebarra · 27/02/2014 11:41

I'm only 36 so wasn't planning on being menopausal so early! Hope the arse improves soon pickle and good to hear from you really!

wine sorry you seem to be getting everyone else's periods

really lovely to hear from you, I never keep up with posts, try to but can't. But I do read them all and would comment if my brain worked properly.

Handbagsatdawn · 27/02/2014 13:05

Really great to hear from you. Hope the decision whether to have chemo or not is more straightforward this time.

Mildmay lots of us on here have had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. I found the recovery from this op really straightforward and had only mild pain for a few days afterwards. Having said that, I have some quite gruesome photos of the spectacular bruising afterwards and occasionally I scare small children with them Grin.

Foo and Difficult I'm also not far from you (Guildford) - perhaps I shall stalk you for coffee Foo!

KitKat am also taking B12 and evening primrose/vit E. was going to add biotin (for hair) too......just about to head into Holland and Barrett.

Just had a 'going back to work' discussion with my boss. Why do I feel so resentful about having to go back? Luckily he said all the right things (start off part time etc.), but I so love not having to go and I think my priorities in life have changed somewhat since September.

kitkat1967 · 27/02/2014 15:10

Handbags - I don't think I'll be adding anything for hair growth - head hair is fine and facial hair growth is somewhat extreme at the moment!!

I'm actually enjoying it back at work - I'm not quite full time yet but it's good to have something different to think about.
