Smear tests

Hi all,
I seem to have developed a phobia of smear tests - today 10mg of Valium wouldn't even help! I've read about HPV blood tests - has anyone had one or does anyone have any idea where you can get them done?
I've also thought of having a course of hypnotherapy - has this worked for anyone one??
Many thanks

I didn't realise this was such an old thread. How did that happen? Confused

I recently had a smear that came backs CIN3 (severe dyskaryosis) and HPV+. Within two days I had a phone call from the consultant saying that he would like to perform a colposcopy and possibly a LLLETZ procedure under local anaesthetic the following day. However! between having the smear and getting the results I had broken my leg and was in plaster from my toes to the top of my thigh. I hopped into the hospital and into the treatment room. Naturally I couldn't bend my left leg to fit into the stirrup so a lovely Jamaican nurse held it straight up in the air. During the colposcopy the Very gorgeous Dr found a very large polyp blocking my cervix and asked if I had had problems getting pregnant. My response was "My daughter is 15. These days I have problems getting laid!" The nurse laughed so much she dropped my leg. After a few local injections (just a short sharp sting) the Dr performed the LLETZ which was absolutely painless. As I hopped of the clinic my friend realised she'd forgotten her scarf. She returned back to the clinic and was giggling like a lunatic. She had overheard the Dr saying to a colleague "she has difficulty getting laid?? I'd do her!" Results were fine, procedure very straightforward and ego thoroughly boosted.
