Anyone else had the virus from hell?

I've had it for about a week now. Started off with sore throat, coughing, heavy cold. Now (a week on) it's added fever, lethargy and vomiting & diarrorhea to its repertoire. I feel utterly depleted and was wondering when it's going to end!

It's awful isn't it?

I've had a sore throat for 2 weeks, tired, nauseous, headachey, neck ache, earache and now I'm bunged up and sneezing.

Had a dodgy tummy too the last couple of days - wasn't sure it was related but seems like it is.

brettgirl2 · 28/09/2013 16:28

I think I have the same thing although my dodgy tummy bit was just feeling nauseous. Right now a week and a half in I have sinusitis from hell. DH had sorted the kids out today though and I've done nothing Grin

KittyMcAllister · 28/09/2013 17:45

Glad to hear I'm not alone! I've had the grand total of a pint of orange squash and some flat coke. Who needs diets! I hardly ever get ill so I'm a terrible patient.

I've just joined here as I'm at the end of my tether, had this virus for nearly 4 weeks, started with cough then chest infection, my daughter has had it for a week, really poorly, no fever, aches and pains, chest pain, light headed, fatigue, blocked nose, headache, sneezing, nausea, we still have an appetite, no medication seems to help apart from inhaling menthol crystals and lots of rest and fluids, but as soon as you feel better it comes back. I've been on antibiotics and steroids which did help the chest infection a bit, but not the other symptoms. It really helps to know that other people have the same thing, has anybody got over it? How long did it take etc, my daughter is now feeling better after being in bed for nearly a whole week.

InMySpareTime · 29/09/2013 07:58

Noooo, I cannot be ill for that long!
I got the sore throat and neck for two days, couldn't walk round the house without needing a rest (it's not a big house), then lost my voice for a day (disaster - I'm a storyteller and had a gig yesterday, got through with Lemonade and sweets).
Now on the snotty cold but it's the tiredness that's really getting me,
I'm self employed, if I don't work I don't earn.
Please tell me I can rest this off in a week...

JemimaMuddledUp · 29/09/2013 08:09

Yes!

I started the first week of term, so I'm heading towards 4 weeks now. Started with a sore throat and temperature, then moved to earache and sinuses, then completely blocked ears through which I could hear nothing for a week. They have unblocked now, but I have gone back to earache again and have developed a cough. Periods of feeling nauseous too. My nose has run so much that the skin on the end peeled off and I have scabs on it now.

I hate the fact that you think it is clearing and then in comes back.

I'm supposed to be having a flu jab, bu I'm not sure they'll give it to me until this clears.

Clairemum123 · 29/09/2013 08:57

I really feel for you all, I feel so dizzy again today and have a cotton wool head and feeling anxious, my ears are popping and hurting, nose is blocked again, felt better yesterday, think Im going to the doctors again tomorrow if I can even though they've said its a virus. But surely not for this long! No medication seems to help, inhaling menthol chrystals over a bowl with hot water helps clear my head, but I'm totally fed up!

musicalfamily · 29/09/2013 09:04

Sympathy from me too! I must be beating the record with 4 weeks of this going on. First cough, then the cough seemed to disappear and had a stinking cold, sinus pain, then cough and sinus pain came back with avengeance and got antibiotics. Now have very productive cough and sinuses seem to have calmed down although I have a bad cold still and don't feel that great.

Went to a soft play for DD's birthday yesterday and felt like I should be in bed - terrible!! Planning to go to the doctor again next week although I am not sure what she is going to suggest. Good luck to everyone else, and hope you all feel better soon!

themummyonthebus · 29/09/2013 09:14

Oh god, don't tell me there's weeks of this to go still Sad I've been coughing my guys up for days, no voice, snot galore. Woke at 3 am to feed DC2 and could get back to sleep due to coughing. Gave up at 6 am and got up, baby slept till 9, DC1 till 8.30 which is unheard of. So pissed off I not only missed my lie in but half a night's sleep too Sad I'm going to cry if it lasts much beyond the beginning of next week. Am only taking paracetamol too as I'm bf a new born

KittyMcAllister · 30/09/2013 12:07

Just been to GP's and he's confirmed I've got bronchitis. Now I'm on antibiotics I should hopefully start to feel less like death warmed up. He said my temperature was 38.7 and he was quite shocked at the severity of it. Another week off work then, as I work in a neonatal unit so you can't be too careful. I'm just pleased I've got some sort of diagnosis.

That's great Kitty that you have a way forward.

I still feel pretty rubbish, can't believe I am now in the 5th week of having a cold and a cough and today it is my last day of antibiotics!!

Cold is marginally better, cough is still there and my left side hurts now...still coughing up greenish stuff sometimes. I am going to probably return to the GP tomorrow, I know they will refer me for a chest X ray, I am bricking it that it's something nasty now :(

KittyMcAllister · 30/09/2013 17:36

Hopefully it's just a really nasty bugger of an infection musical that you can shift with another course of ab's?

ThistleDown · 30/09/2013 17:49

May I join? I'm off work for the third week, had a flu type thing that has floored me. Saw GP at end of last week who confirmed I'm not fit to work. The joys...

musicalfamily · 30/09/2013 21:19

Welcome Thistle!!

Yes I hope so, I think I had a nasty sinus and chest infection and they are just taking their time to shift now.............feeling a little more positive.......going back to the GP in the morning for a check up, just to see what she thinks!!

musicalfamily · 01/10/2013 09:23

I went to the doctor today and I got a huge lecture...apparently she had diagnosed pneumonia last week and there was a SOS in red on my notes...

So the lecture was about not expecting miracles and taking care of myself, plenty of rest, etc...and more antibiotics just in case....

TeaAndCakeOrDeath · 01/10/2013 09:36

Yep, me, DS1 (2.8) and DS2 (17 weeks) all down with it...DP has avoided it so far but has retired to bed now muttering about 'feeling a bit dodgy'...fun!

I feel we should ring bells to warn people of our presence!

EnlightenedOwl · 01/10/2013 11:23

i don't know if mine's the same thing - I mean obviously a virus but ....
had the worst earache ever since about Saturday at least got pain under control now. Had antibiotics which is clearing out a lot of secondary gunk from my ears .....its decided to come out through my nose sorry tmi! nose just full of dried blood.
its a long time since I've felt this poorly.

Clairemum123 · 01/10/2013 11:30

Get well soon everybody, I went to the doctors yesterday and now have sinus infection, so now feel like in wearing goggles with a migraine, feeling better than I did though, I'm having manuka honey with lemon juice and hot water this has really helped, also I thought that I'd try and stop blowing my noise 2 days ago (after 3 weeks of blowing it and being blocked up) my nose is clear, also if anyone is really blocked up I definitely recommend menthol Chrystal's to inhale over hot water, they are very powerful and only cost a £1 from the chemist, do it at least 3 times a day, also drink lots of fluids and rest, rest, rest! All of this has really helped and I'm hoping that I'm on the mend after 4 weeks. The doctor told me it's not unusual for a virus to drag on, I was getting very anxious.

Get well soon everybody x

Clairemum123 · 01/10/2013 11:34

Ps make sure you keep warm too, I find if I get cold some of the symptoms come back, never felt so poorly for so long, but feeling more positive and brighter my next ailment will be sofa sores! Lol

musicalfamily · 01/10/2013 13:21

Fingers crossed Clairemum that we all get better soon!! I am starting to feel very sorry for myself!!!

Clairemum123 · 01/10/2013 14:30

I know how you feel musical family, it does get you down when you wake up either feeling no better or feeling even worse . I was very down at the weekend as it was my 3rd weekend in a row of not being able to do anything with my family, my trip to the doctor helped, it certainly reassured me & there certainly seems to be a lot of people with something similar. Onwards and upwards :) keeping everything crossed, fingers, eyes, legs etc!!!!

musicalfamily · 02/10/2013 13:13

Been for an X-ray today, so fingers crossed that they don't find anything nasty, you do start to think the worse in your lowest moments!!!

Clairemum123 · 02/10/2013 14:17

Hope you are ok musicalfamily, and try not to worry. Take care and keep us posted x

musicalfamily · 02/10/2013 14:18

Thank you so much!!! I will try not to jump too high every time the phone rings....

EduCated · 02/10/2013 14:30

I'm nowhere near as bad, but started feeling poorly last night and feeling horrible today, except I don't seem to have any symptoms other than feeling really achey and I've got that 'ill' feeling, just really sorry for myself and anything other than lying on the settee just seems overwhelming.

Bit light headed and sneezy, nose feels constricted but not snotty at all, occasional ear twinges, but it's the body ache that's really making me feel rough Sad
