Why is there a shortage? :( I really don't like the boots own paracetamol and codeine, too chalky.

Think i may order doxylamine from amazon....
Ive suffered from tension headaches for 8 years now & syndol/boots tension headache pills were the only tablets to help
Finding it so hard now, nothing helps (currently sat with heat wrap on neck!)
Has anyone tried doxylamine only?

Just talked to Reckitt Benckiser. The issue is quality control. They found some tainted stocks and are having to review their whole production system. it has nothing to do with addiction problems or anything else. It is coming back....but they don't know when!

I would just add that the "tainted or impure stocks" were not in any way harmful but medicines and quality control need to be of the very highest standards.

I stumbled onto mumsnet by accident while looking for syndol. I am fotrunate not to be troubled with migrain but my wife has suffered many years with it and syndol is the only thing so far that gives her any relief. her doctor advised her against using imigran. Its obvious that all medicines dont suit all people. I cant understand why there should have been all this trouble in the transfer of one company to new owners In the search for syndol I have been given every posible excuse for the lack of supplies the latest of which is the quality problem. I recently travelled 10 miles to a chemist who I know still has a limited supply of syndol left. He tells me now that the 30s packs are now discontinued and though I could buy 30 in one pack he is not allowed to sell me 3x10`s or 1x10 +1x20 which by my calculation equal 30. I ask does any of them know what they are doing?. Anyway best of luck to all you migrain sufferers you have my deepest sympathies and thank you for those tips and suggestions that you have posted. My wife will be most grateful if any of them help. To the ladies, you know when you suffer so do us men.

Forgot to tell you in my last post my wife was prescribed MIGRIL which worked for her but she had side effects. Her eyes used to go glassy and she would vomit ,then she would have to go to bed for two or three hours.A friend of ours took them without side effects. May be OK for osme of you hopefully good luck.

I suffer from really bad migrains and can be wiped out with visual disturbances, sickness and thought destroying head pain! I have used Syndol for about 2 years now and it really has been the only thing that has helped me when I get one of my attacks (once a month ish). I ran out of my remaining tablets about 6 weeks ago and was living in fear that I would have an attack but no Syndol! I took the decision to order from //www.buysyndoluk.co.uk that was recommended to me by a work colleague who suffers in similar way to me. They sell Syndol in smaller amounts as well as the big 100 packets. I purchased a pack of 10 first to see whether they would actually turn up, and they did so I then ordered a pack of 100 to keep me going until Syndol are back on the shelves (soon I hope!). The pack of 100 turned up today so hopefully that should see me through!

Hi everyone. This has been bugging me for a while! I've managed to buy Syndol from healthcounter.co.uk up until recently but it's now also out of stock! But does anyone know if www.buysyndoluk.co.uk is genuine?? I'd prob pay £10+ for a pack of 10 but I'm not sure about the legitimacy of the website itself.... Other than that, I guess we'll have to wait for Reckitt Benckiser (who now own Syndol brand) to sort the licensing issue!! Hmm

Thanks to RainbowKrystal I got some Syndol for my wife a few months ago from healthcounter. Its worth its weight in gold.

I have used getslimmingpills.co twice now and its been fine.

I have just ordered 100 from buysyndol.co.uk so will let you know how it goes. Expensive but if it allows my wife to keep her job I'm afraid its worth it for us.

WARNING re. busysyndol.uk

Has anyone rec'd 10 Syndol from busysyndol.uk yet? I ordered and paid by PayPal for it on 2 July. It states 48 hour delivery. I have left two voicemail messages and as yet, nobody has called me back.

Hi Passiflor, I recieved mine this morning! from //www.buysyndoluk.co.uk. When I called and I was told that they are very busy with orders and they where very sorry for the delay. In the end they were 2 days late but I guess as long as they turn up thats what counts. I'm just glad I can still get Syndol.

Passiflor · 06/07/2013 16:33

PLEASE IGNORE WARNING

Having just posted the last message, a man from that Company has just called me to say that due to huge orders there is a delay, but it was posted to me yesterday. I should receive it on Monday.
Phew.

My 10 tablets came today, but they are made by a different Company Adcock Ingram in South Africa. The tablets are rather large, round, and yellow. Is this what others have rec'd? The print is in purple.

Report
foxyjade · 09/07/2013 17:57

Yes Passiflor, they are the same as I received from //www.buysyndoluk.co.uk. They are the only way to get Syndol in the UK at the moment. The Adcock Ingram tablets are actually the original Syndol and have been around since the 70's. They are a different shape but they have exactly the same ingredients, Codeine Phosphate 10mg, Doxylamine Succinate 5mg, Paracetamol 450mg and Caffeine 30mg. I lived in South Africa for 5 years and that's where I first came across Syndol (thank god). They had the purple packet just the same when I lived there.

It is MHRA policy not to discuss details of pending applications with third parties However, the MHRA can confirm that following evaluation of a variation application to address the quality issue, that the MHRA is currently awaiting a response from the company.

this is the statement given today 18th July

so things are moving to get syndol back on our shelves in the uk

I bought 100 from buysyndoluk and can confirm that they are absolutely fine although horrendously expensive ... somebody somewhere is making a fortune out of our suffering grrr...

I spoke to someone in Tesco who gleefully (I swear) told me that they wouldn't be coming back ever again Shock!

The idea of paying £60 for a 100 of them each time just makes me want to cry.....

Got the Syndol situation sorted for my monthly migraine/tension headache from hell, are you ready?
Get 2 co-codamol, a mug of coffee (not de-caff, you need the caffeine!) And finally get onto amazon uk, and order kirklands signature sleep aid ( sold in costco in US) half of one of them is about the same amount of doxylamine that you would have had in 2 Syndol! Was a pharmacy technician in previous life, before kids, so know what I am doing :)
Hope this helps someone, it might just be one migraine/tension headache a month but it is so worth trying :)

Report

You can get co-codamol with caffeine in at Tesco. I have tried that combination too, for some reason it doesn't seem to work quite as well but I suspect a lot of that is psychological for me.

Took stock of 100 syndol from ondoorsteppharmacy yesterday!! Ordered them on line, bit unsure at first but they took just over a week to arrive and come in a different box and are tablets the size of a 5p coin, low and behold, headache kicked in and took two tablets last night, woke up this morning pleased as punch to say headache gone, and feeling ready to tackle the world again!!! Cost me just under £40 for 100 tablets, totally worth it!! No lengthy medical check like some sites are asking, the tablets come from South Africa and when you use the site for the first time everything is in dollars but it is converted for you when you come to pay. Hope this helps others desperatly seeking the "gold dust" syndol!

I bought some syndol from a South African pharmacist but worried about taking it....a few people have mentioned that they had done the same. Its in a purple packet And the tsbs are yelloq and a flat circular shape.

I have been prescribed Naproxen 500mg from my gp for my tension headaches which are thank goodness infrequent. It makes you woozy but only taking x1 twice a day has worked. Gp told me to take for 2 days to see if it worked and it has !!!!!

Thanks..this is my first time with mumsnet
