Why is there a shortage? :( I really don't like the boots own paracetamol and codeine, too chalky.

Thankyou so much Darling42 I read your post about Syndol and I have suffered migraines for years and Syndol is the only thing that works for me. I havent been able to get any for months and Im down to my last four tablets. When I read your post I went straight on to amazon to order the Kirkland tablets and then to the pharmacy for veganin then I waited! I have now used this combination three times for my migraines and its great works just as well as Syndol. I have now not got to worry about going on my holidays and being bed ridden with a bad head!

I have been a Syndol user for over 30 years. Thanks to this site I was able to discover the Kirkland sleeping pills which I tried and they worked but they were not as convenient as the original Syndol. Next I tried the Zimseller site and I placed an order for 300 Syndol on the 8th May and paid extra for airfreight carriage. The total price for the 300 was £123.46 and the pills arrived in Belfast on 22nd May. The packaging is different and the shape of the pill is not a capsule but a flat round pill exactly as they used to be when they were available only on prescription in the 1980's. I don't need Syndol every day but every 3-4 days I will need to use them as nothing else works. The order from Zimseller is about twice the normal UK price but these will last me until they are available in the UK again. I just wanted to let people know that the Zimseller site is legitimate but you cannot use Paypal only a credit/debit card. Thanks to previous posters for their help in pointing me in this direction.

I LOVED Syndol. Several years ago, for about 18 months i use to take about 4 a day, every day, especially 2 a night, so i wouldn't wake up with a banging headache the following morning. Ohhh the relaxing feeling it provided me, that weight of my shoulders and the migraine just lifting away...heaven. I haven't taken one in what about 5+ years now, but there have been times (like today) when i so wish i could.

I'm still suffering from my headaches, badly. But i'm just about to start another thread about them! Anyway all i know is Codine is great for taking your migraine away, BUT taking it on a regular basis, IT WILL GIVE YOU YOU MORE HEADACHES IN THE LONG RUN. My gp at the headache clinic told me that today, not to take it more than twice in one week.

I have been scouting the internet for answers regarding when Syndol will be back but everybody seems to be speculating.

Somewhere on this forum, I read about Syndol being available from zimseller.com. I bought 100 pills from them at the beginning of April but these are about to run out. (By the way the Syndol from zimseller.com is legitimate. My local pharmacy tested them for me and confirmed that they have the same ingredients as the ones manufactured in the UK. However the ones from zimseller come in packs of 100 and they are flat yellowish pills).

I am keeping my ear to the ground. Please post here if you hear anything from Reckitts, the new manufactures of Syndol. God knows how long we will have to wait!

I ordered 100 Syndol from zimseller and thought I'd paid, now they tell me they have no record of my payment. A bit worrying. According to them Syndol are made by Adcock Ingram (.co.za), but when I went on their website list of products, Syndol wasn't on there. Like everyone else, I've never found anything to match them for migraine, but I'm now concerned if I redo the payment thing, they might be fakes, and who knows what might be in them.

About 2 yrs ago I checked with my GP about taking Syndol pregnancy. He looked at the ingredients and said taking a Syndol was no different to taking:

2 paracetomel
a strong coffee
an antihistamine tablet

Must say, I've never tried it but certainly worth trying!

I have just joined mumsnet so I can pass on my findings- and I am also a mum! The magic ingredient in Syndol is Doxylamine Succinate. It's available abroad in pharmacies over the counter as a sleeping aid. Thats what relaxes the tension in the stress headaches we're all complaining of! My pharmacist friend checked this method out for me...its fine as long as you get the proportions correct. I get my friends/family to bring me some DS back whenever they go to Spain or the USA. You need to do the Maths and combine some of the Doxylamine Succinate with ordinary cocodamol tablets from the pharmacy here. I found that half a Spanish DS tablet and two cocodamol were the equivalent values of two Syndol. It works for me so good luck with this. You can check the drug quantities of Syndol from an old pack or I usually just google it. (at the moment I don't have those details to hand.)

Hi, I too suffer with really bad migraines, a few years ago i found syndol, my saviour, they knocked me out cold, which was always the best thing to escape the pain, and terrible mixed up vision. i was devastated like a lot of you ladies when i couldnt get it anymore, i also had a slight panic attack when i heard, i have been searching since for something to take its place, and havent found anything up to now, then i thought about the ingredients in it, and have just ordered "doxylamine" from amazon, i can't wait to get them, the other two ingredients of syndol are paracetomol and codeine, codiene is the one that gets you hooked, so i wont miss that, in future now i have decided to just take paracetomol for the pain and doxylamine to help me sleep the migraines off, i also used to take half a syndol at night if i couldnt sleep, it sure did the trick, so im hoping my new stash of doyxlamine will help me get a good nights sleep once again. hope this helps ladies.

Will have a look tomorrow. Thank goodness I haven't had a humdinger of a migraine for a while, but when I do Syndol are the only thing that can fix it.

Somebody upthread suggested using Veganin and doxylamine. If I recall correctly from my pharmacy days Veganin contain aspirin as well as paracetamol and codeine so are stronger in analgesic terms but without antihistamine.

Hi, I have been reading these comments since the Syndol shortage kicked in and can relate to all the range of problems here. I am also pleased to report that I went into my Boots chemist in Co Down today and Syndol were back on the shelf. I have a pack of 30 in my handbag as I type this! Hopefully this is the end of the problem now. Good luck peeps :)

Thanks for making me welcome (new member) and greetings to all. I can confirm that Syndol is back - I went into Boots in Exeter today and was amazed to see it. I had emailed Reckitt Benckieser who make it, and was told it had been Ok'd by the MHA but production would take time, so I was SO relieved. My GP and a specialist have both said I should use it when I get tension headaches, as paracetamol doesn't relieve the tension and pain just comes back - Migraine in my dear Mum's family so don't want to start that. NO signs of Syndol in other pharmacies yet, so will get some ASAP just in case they vanish again. Our GP is dead against aspirin/Veganin in case of internal bleeding - Syndol is safer, so long as you don't drive after it! ( best before bed then sleep it off I find). Au revoir for now.

I am pleased and incredibly relieved to say that Syndol box of 30 tablets were back on the shelves in Boots in Newcastle upon Tyne yesterday. Have found like most on here that nothing else seems to work as well. :)

Syndol is back on sale in Boots in Swindon. I assume that means it will be back in other branches now or soon. Like others who've contributed to this thread, they are the only thing that touches my tension headaches so this is great news!
