Your primary oubreak sounds every bit as bad as my first but I can reassure you that it didn't last 6 weeks. The antivirals do kick in and you will feel so much better once the pain is under control. Ask your GP about the Xylocaine tomorrow.

My body was in such a state I thought my life was over and that I would never have sex again and that I was disgusting. My DP was only the second man I had ever slept with and I felt so ashamed.

The human body's ability to heal itself is amazing and trust me, you will start to see an improvement soon.

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. It is natural that you are tearful, but please do not be ashamed.

Rest up and take care of yourself. This too shall pass.

Jammygal · 30/03/2011 20:25

Pee in a bowl of water or the bath.........this will dilute the acidity of the wee!

HooverTheHamaBeads · 30/03/2011 20:29

If your urethra is inflamed perhaps one of those cystitis sachets would help as it neutralises the urine and makes it less acidic. I'd drink plenty of pure cranberry juice as well.

Are you still taking painkillers? Keep taking the nurofen and paracetamol as well. Did you manage to get anymore sleep last night?

cabbageroses · 30/03/2011 20:45

BUT - can a guy have the virus and never have had an outbreak? But still carry it? And then pass it on? or does it always cause an outbreak, so they would know?

Sorry for all the qs but this is news to me and I have a young-ish DD.

HooverTheHamaBeads · 30/03/2011 20:53

cabbages yes you can have it and never have had an outbreak. I think the stats are approx only 25% of the people who have the virus have recurrent outbreaks. The other 75% have either no outbreaks at all (ever) or have had one primary outbreak and then no further outbreaks.

cabbageroses · 30/03/2011 21:12

so it's a complete lottery- no symptoms but can be carried and transmitted. great!

Forgive me for barging in but form your last post it sounds like you really need to get some medical attention urgently.

Poor poor you, wishing you speedy healing.

Leverkusen · 30/03/2011 22:09

Oh TA, only just saw this thread. You poor, poor thing and I know exactly how this feels. Back to the doctors with you!
It is so very painful.
EMLA cream to tide you over, lots of painkillers and try to eat healhtily with lots of fruit and veg as your body is run down.

Honestly though, it gets better. The pain of my first OB was like nothing I ahd ever felt before (or since!).

Also, I got it from my DP through asymptomatic viral shedding. It felt like it came out of nowhere, such a shock.

Leverkusen · 30/03/2011 22:10

Has anyone said- a cold wet teabag on your bits works wonders!

marriednotdead · 31/03/2011 10:33

How are you feeling this morning TA?

TearfulAndAshamed · 31/03/2011 11:36

Hi Marrriednotdead still feeling bad.Im moving about more today though and trying to stop it getting me down as ive been pretty much incapable of movement for five days.Im just accepting that i have to pee and its going to hurt so i just do a bit of jumping around each time i go.I have got some cystitis granuals today to try and make the urine less acidic as suggested by Hoover.

First time today i dont have a headache so far.I have also been to sign the contract for my house they emailed over all the paper work to my local letting agent to save me such a long journey. So as soon as im better ill be moving.Yipee at least i have something to look forward to

OP posts:
marriednotdead · 31/03/2011 13:26

So a bit positive, the house sounds like a welcome if inconvenient distraction Smile

Are your DCs adapting to your incapacity- they are probably getting away with all sorts!

Although it goes against everything you want to do, drinking as much water as you can will dilute your urine ready for exit. Cranberry juice is a good one too, I'm on that at the mo as the catheter from last weeks op really irritated and I'm paranoid about getting cystitis again.

foxinsocks · 31/03/2011 13:38

omg you are one brave lady going through all that pain

I really hope the lack of headache means you are on the path to recovery. What a nasty nasty illness it is :(

HooverTheHamaBeads · 31/03/2011 17:03

Sounds like you are turning the corner now T&A. Horray for that!

If you can drink as much as you can it will help. Even though it hurts to wee, if you are drinking loads what is coming out will be more diluted and less acidic and hurt less.

There is another thread in general health ATM about herpes/cold sores which I have been posting on ref supplements and vits recommended to help keep your immunity Up and cold sores Away, might be worth reading for future reference. xx

TearfulAndAshamed · 31/03/2011 19:39

Just thought id let everyone know that i just had a call from GUM clinic.I have hsv1.What does that mean?Is it good or bad?I dont know what the difference is in 1 and 2.

Hoover im going to go boots tomorrow and stock up on those vitamins you have suggested as to be honest i have felt the need for a vitamin for ages but never been sure of what to take.

OP posts:
TheVisitor · 31/03/2011 19:43

I think that HSV1 stems from coldsores round the mouth.

Purplebuns · 31/03/2011 19:45

Hi, I was just catching up to see how you were doing, I have found this website; www.herpes.com/hsv1-2.html Lovely to see how positive you are now and great news about your new house :)

cabbageroses · 31/03/2011 19:46

it's the cold sore virus- not genital herpes.

Did you have oral sex?

Of the two viruses i think it is the least evil. There's lots on the web about herpes- google.

TearfulAndAshamed · 31/03/2011 20:16

Gosh that article is interesting but ive resisted googling too much as i find a lot of conflicting information.Hsv1 says on a lot of sites that it wont be as painful as hsv 2 in the genital area.Well my goodness if i had hsv2 i would have needed to be hospitalised as this pain is the worst pain i have ever felt in my life. Its the only infection i've ever had to wipe me out so completely.

OP posts:
HooverTheHamaBeads · 31/03/2011 21:04

It used to be that HSV1 was cold sores and HSV2 genital herpes but they are more or less inter-changeable these days, thanks to oral sex.

Eurostar · 31/03/2011 21:05

The good news is that HSV-1, when contracted in the genital area, will often have much weaker follow up outbreaks if any at all. This is thought to be because HSV-1's natural home is the top of the spine and HSV-2's the bottom so it doesn't thrive as well when living out of its "natural home".

I read recently that 50% of new genital infections in the UK currently are found to be HSV-1. The fact that oral sex has now become so common means that the deliniation between 1 and 2 is changing.

Cabbage - cold sore virus is the herpes virus, it doesn't only transmit via cold sores, if someone has type 1 genitally it can be passed on to either end.

Eurostar · 31/03/2011 21:05

x-post with hoover :-)

TearfulAndAshamed · 31/03/2011 21:18

It really is rather scary.I have only ever felt comfortable enough to recieve oral sex with two people(long story) and they are Dp and the dcs dad.Neither of them suffer with cold sores so it can lie dormant in any form.

I really hope i wake up tomorrow in much less pain.I just want to have a normal pee and not have to take deep breaths each time Sad
