getting lots of chest pain

giraffescantdookforapples · 30/10/2010 23:24

Had chest infection and somethings shown up on xray. Had antibiotics but stopped after getting bad palpatations. Unsure if being ill or antibiotics caused them

Still getting lots of pain, tight heavy chest plus pain inside chest. Heart monitor on 17th nov and repeat xray on 20th.

Dr said in letter to go back if still unwell, not sure if any point though?

They wont do anything. Not having palpatations now, fast but not scarily fast. they will do ecg, bloods, take history and tell me hearts too fast send me home because have cardio refferal. They tell me to come in if have palpatations that dont stop after 5 min.

You've probably got a really nasty infection brewing but nobody can know that online and you need your lungs so seek medical help NOW please.

NothereisnobodylurkingbehindU · 30/10/2010 23:32

Well you need anothoer ECG because you don't know if anything's changed and you need your BP taking as well. Your symptoms are not 'normal' - therefore you shoudl be seen - even if it is only to send you home!

scottishmummy · 30/10/2010 23:33

look, act on this either OOH gp or A&E.no one on mn can do anything.why are you having a protracted discussion

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 30/10/2010 23:35

go please, i went yesterday when my heart rate was playing up. They were wonderful and i was home within 2 hours :)

JarethTheGoblinKing · 30/10/2010 23:36

If you rang NHS direct they would either tell you to go to A&E or call you an ambulance.

Actually ring them and see what they say

don't rest til you get an answer. i had chest pains for a few months and it took a lot of doctors to finally diagnose me but i'm glad they did. now i am now managing the pain and an illness, and content that i was diagnosed and treated properly.

you know yourself if you don't feel right. don't be fobbed off. i know some doctors can make you feel like you are a nuisance but voice your concerns again.

best of luck Smile.

ShirleyGarrote · 30/10/2010 23:50

I hope you've gone to A&E OP

Don't mess with the chest. (this sounds flippant but as an asthma sufferer I can assure you that this is the motto by which I live my life)

Pain is a signal to you. A sign that something is wrong.

If you're not there yet. Go now.

giraffescantdookforapples · 30/10/2010 23:52

I was just meaning should I bother going back next week. I will phone first thing mon morn and if gets worse before will go back. I'm not going to a&e in Glasgow on a friday evening, especially halloween weekend and last friday of the month. [hgrin] That would make my heart worse.

scottishmummy · 30/10/2010 23:55

if you already know your answer why ask mn opinion

oldenoughtowearpurple · 30/10/2010 23:56

Have you had previous ECG/blocs in a&e then? What does 'not scarily fast' mean - are you checking your pulse? Is the pain constant or does it change at all?

Obviously chest pains are to be taken very seriously; if you called an ambulance you would get a category a response and a trip to a&e. Why are you not worried?

giraffescantdookforapples · 30/10/2010 23:56

sm was meaning do I go next week ot wait until 17th

old - because its been going on for weeks, in and out hosp. a&e helpful but send home and cant do anything. Only said if fast and wont stop come in and will give meds to slow. but its only 120 now so wont do anything.

Right op I'm a bit annoyed about this. You have potentially very serious symptoms. If you want to ignore them fine - but don't post late at night saying you have chest pain and then say that you only want to know if you should go back in a non-urgent way Hmm

scottishmummy · 31/10/2010 00:01

and categorically no one mn can assess your symptoms.if you want a sound clinically based decision arrived based upon your current presentation only rl staff can do this

go A&E or call OOH Gp

ShirleyGarrote · 31/10/2010 00:06

Don't mess with the chest.

Listen to me. You're in pain yes? Pain enough to post?

I'm not talking about your heart, I'm talking about your blimming lungs.

Any trouble breathing?

Get to A&E. I know it's a pain in the arse. Please.

Agree with sm - maybe try OOH GP - I would prefer a quick run o A&E myself...

giraffescantdookforapples · 31/10/2010 00:12

Oh god I dont want to piss anyone off Im sorry. Its not late at night to me I have been on shift today so this is early evening to me, just having dinner and pondering whether to go back next week or wait.

Honestly its no different now from how its been the whole time, only thing is I am still getting it. And was just wondering if I should wait or go back before appointment, I will go back. Its not worse its just still the same, nothings changed tonight to make me need to go in now.

I know mn cant give me medical avice I just wanted reassurance I wasnt being a pain in the bum if I went back to gp before hosp appointment.

scottishmummy · 31/10/2010 00:19

posting about CI and potential cardiac probs is going to alarm folk, your op description contains enough info to potentially worry anyone reading it

so all the will i ,wont i comes across bit inappropriate, given you knw from responses folk are worried

i sincerely hope you seek medical advice.mn isnt place to guess your health

ShirleyGarrote · 31/10/2010 00:46

DON'T MESS WITH THE CHEST.

(kick up a stink on bloody MONDAY, I'm not kidding, chest pain should never be taken lightly - honestly)

winnybella · 31/10/2010 00:53

Tight heavy chest
Pain
Fast heart rate

Docotr said to go back if still unwell. It is NOT normal to have symptoms like this for an extended period of time.

WTF are you waiting for?

winnybella · 31/10/2010 01:03

Ok, let me try it this way:

Say you pull a muscle in your back and the meds doctor gave you didn't work so he's keen to investigate further. Waiting for the second appointment you still feel like shit. Ok, that sucks, but you're not going to die from a pulled muscle. Not the greatest example, but ykwim.

Now chest pain, fast heart rate and suspicious x-rate result. Hmm. Yes, it could be something you could die or become seriously ill from.

Please, do go to OOH or A&E. Say you will not leave til they give you a second chest x-ray and check your heart out.

Do not worry about doctors thinking you're overreacting- no doctor worth his/her salt would think so given your symptoms.
