giraffescantdookforapples · 30/10/2010 23:24

Had chest infection and somethings shown up on xray. Had antibiotics but stopped after getting bad palpatations. Unsure if being ill or antibiotics caused them

Still getting lots of pain, tight heavy chest plus pain inside chest. Heart monitor on 17th nov and repeat xray on 20th.

Dr said in letter to go back if still unwell, not sure if any point though?

please go, I went the other day with mine but I have had non dangerous heart problems for 3 years now, BUT I still went in when my symptoms were causing me concern. They toook me straight in, plug me onto machines and noticed some changes in my heart traces from previous readings. Now I have to go back to the cardio team urgently.
Please go, you have no idea whats happening and whats the worst that could happen?? You spend a few hours in A&E, get yourself checked out and they discharge you or send you for treatment. If you dont go and something happens will you ever forgive yourself?? Sod pissing off docs, trust me they will happily see you, not like you have a cut toe is it??

Bunbaker · 31/10/2010 08:48

It could be pneumonia or pleurisy. These don't get better on their own. Please get some medical advice asap.

Hope you get some help, or reassurance, for tonight.

Let us know how you get on.

NothereisnobodylurkingbehindU · 31/10/2010 21:04

Od dear - hope you are ok. If you're not happy with what they say don't be scared to go to A&E anyway - they won't (indeed can't) turn you away.

giraffescantdookforapples · 31/10/2010 21:15

giraffescantdookforapples · 01/11/2010 07:18

Thanks all.

Well I think nhs 24 told the ambulance men I was about to drop dead, so when I answered the door just looked a bit ill with a cough they were surprised.

Anyway did a heart thing - well just 3/4 leads and bp etc. And said it was up to me if I wanted to go to hosp. I said was happy that they had checked and wasnt wabout to drop dead and would go to gp. But said if changed to phone back. tbh I felt like a bit of an idiot.

Anyway my heart in the evening was 70 and when they were there was 90. My heart is never that slow. its usually about 120. So I know that sounds odd but when I took it yesterday evening it was like I could only feel half the pulse because was so few. I will tell my gp and he will understand how slow that is for me. I think the ambulance men though I was a bit odd. Actually my ecg is on my mn profile I put it up to show someone when we were talking about heart stuff I should have shown them that and said look thats what it usually is!!

So I feel like an idiot but at least I am ok. Will go to gp, I want to know why I feel so out of breath doing simple things, if its just chest infection.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 01/11/2010 08:14

Im glad your ok, and know what you mean I know when mines running normal as it feels weird for me, my normal HR is 120

giraffescantdookforapples · 01/11/2010 10:34

same lisa :) When it was 150/160 it felt fast but 120 I feel ok. So when it was 70 thats almost half the rate it normally is so I felt odd.

OP posts:
larrygrylls · 01/11/2010 10:54

Giraffes,

Why is your resting heart rate so high? 70 is normal. Do you have a known heart problem already?

If you stopped taking your antibiotics, is it not likely that your chest infection has come back? Stopping antibiotics mid course without consultation is not a smart move if you have a chest infection.

When does it hurt most? When you breathe in?
That would be classic pleurisy.

I agree with the posters who say "don't mess with your chest". I would go to A&E and have it properly checked out.

giraffescantdookforapples · 01/11/2010 11:04

Yes have fast heart anyway, seen cardio, had scan etc and am waiting for a monitor for 24hours.

Dr told me to stop taking antibiotics. In the side affects/effects (sorry pedants) then it did say abnormal heart rhythms.

It hurst all the time, but more so when breathe in especially when I just went out to car there and cold.

Paramedic said chest sounded "relatively c;ear" lastnight. So I feel like a bit of a drama queen.

Off to phone Dr anyway.

giraffescantdookforapples · 01/11/2010 11:12

Dr going to phone me back, wanted that specific dr as hes one have seen whole way through and hes been very helpful. Will be in house anyway as have one toddler and one off sick from school today so they watching a dvd now. Ive just done the washing and am trying to decide whether or not to bother attempting to scrape the dried on egg off the front door - grr.

OP posts:
larrygrylls · 01/11/2010 11:15

It sounds to me like you need proper tests. I cannot believe how casual the NHS is about that kind of thing.

It def sounds like a lung problem, and not all pneumonias are easy to hear. The low heart rate (for you) sounds very strange, though. If I were you, with all the warning bells, I would go to A&E with all your notes etc and tough it out. Not worth messing with your long term health to avoid the aggro.

giraffescantdookforapples · 01/11/2010 20:42

Im just fed up of feeling like shite.

OP posts:
lisad123isgoingcrazy · 01/11/2010 21:10

hope you get sorted soon

giraffescantdookforapples · 02/11/2010 16:04

So spoke to dr on Monday, he wanted me to come in right away, I couldnt because of work. So I have arranged to see him wednesday - boss is not happy with this at all.

She will be even more not happy if I end up in hospital again though Id imagine Hmm

OP posts:
Tigerbomb · 02/11/2010 22:08

Giraffe, go to see your dr. Sod work, sod your boss, sod everything else.

I let my Dr's faff me about when I knew something was wrong, started off with palpitations, tightening of the chest and struggled to breath. I was told I had a fast heart rate, But then I was also told there wasn't a problem, I was also worried because of work and even when it was really playing up I struggled on because I just had so much to do..... I don't want to worry you but I had three heart attacks, all on the same day, less then two days after a clear x ray!

Put everything else on hold, do not ever mess with heart problems, if you are worried go to A & E. Call an ambulance. It is exactly what they are there for.

I was very very lucky. I died (albeit briefly) and was bought back by the paramedics. I was only 42.

PLease please please don't think you are adrama queen. The ambulance would rather have a 100 false alarms then find you dead.

scottishmummy · 02/11/2010 22:53

i dont get you reticence to act,but you draw this out across mn.i said, she said, the Dr said. so lets see Dr advised you present self to hospital on Monday and on Tuesday you are still ohh and ahh on mn

no one here can authoritatively tell you what you need to do.your Dr requested you present to A&E - you havent?

and no one can guess your potential condition either, you need to act definitively and go hospital.if you cannot make the call ask a friend or family to communicate these past few days and physical status to the hospital for you

and i expect you actually know an employer cannot deny you access to NHS services. have you directly asked?have they directly refused?

so what you going to do?

keep the mn audience guessing

or get some real life assessment and treatment

giraffescantdookforapples · 03/11/2010 21:25

I had the appointment today, this has caused tremendous stress at work but thats another issue. So went to Dr and tbh I expected to be given antibiotics and told will get better and sent away. But he concerned by heart rate and chest pain. Plus the blood results had just come back and showed ddimer was too high (I have no idea what this means something to do with indicating potential blood clot) So he wanted me to go to Medical assessment unit in hospital.

Managed to arrange cover for work and phoned boss. At hosp did bloods, ecg, repeat xray.

Letter from my GP to hospital said concerned about PE.

Have ended up being diagnosed with asthma, this has been coming as was 4th Dr to say it, and have inhalor and refferal to respiritory clinic.

Ddimer bloods came back and was actually higher than last time. But Dr said they were interperated differently and it was unlikely I had PE but he couldnt say 100% no. Said wouldnt get a scan tonight anyway. And was happy to let me go for now.

sorry to read about your health difficulties.but tbh any further cause for concern do pursue in real life as priority.use mn as secondary back up but not primary source.

i can appreciate you may be scared or unwittingly being avoidant.but health is too important to take chance with
