The police didn’t refuse to investigate her. They investigated as did HMRC. I don’t tend to listen to neighbours’ gossip. If I did I’d be even more sure Johnson was abusive after the call to the police about him in Carrie’s flat.
By ‘abrasive’ do you mean ‘assertive’? She’s certainly that. It’s great.
Grifting isn’t something someone can ‘seem’ to do. She doesn’t do it.
You’re entitled to your own opinion, obviously, but not your own facts.

The police investigated her twice as a result of James Daly’s smear campaign. And came up with nothing. Of course Daly’s lost his seat now and Rayner’s in Downing Street. Karma’s a bitch.

Probably drawing up plans to cover Britain in disgusting rabbit hutch houses jammed on top of one another. I’d advise everybody to make the most of any nearby fields and woodland. You’ll be lucky if it’s still untouched five years from now.

Yep. This .

We need more housing. Where do you suggest we build it?

Not on our beautiful country side and on green belt. That’s for sure .

Baital · 06/07/2024 22:58

I live well within the suburbs of a major city, part of an estate built 90 years ago as part of the push to build 'homes fit for heros' after WW1.

At that time it was green belt. Luckily thanks to the ethos and regulations of the time the (huge) suburb was built with plenty of green space AND good quality housing that has needed very little upgrading over the almost-century in which it has met housing needs.

Surely that is what we should be promoting? Good planning and design, which provides quality (not cheapest possible) housing and meets environmental needs.

I agree that we should preserve as much of the countryside as we can but, as I said, we need more houses. Compromises will need to be made.

We also need make renting more secure.

That is a really good point. We can learn from what was done in the past.

I live fairly close to my mother (from.choice, as she gets older!).

We both live in a semi from circa 1930, hers built privately, mine from the equivalent of a Council estate. The quality of build in my house is higher than hers, with such innovations as cavity walls. My house also has better green spaces and integrated amenities.

She is closer to the high street of the era, as that was more valuable.

I have also lived in human scale, medium density housing with a great quality of life. One of a three-storey block of one and two bedroom flats, good communal areas and well maintained. Loved it.

It comes down to good design, environmental planning, and community-focussed planning.

Education for many people doesn't finish at the school gates.

Hers didnt even start at the school gates.

I would absolutely challenge you to be as articulate, engaging, compelling and insightful as Angela Rayner is here.

An extraordinary person.

She is the Deputy Prime Minister. Suck it up!

No. But criticising a person because of their background and accent is very poor form and no better than racism.

Are there any people here who are from Stockport or its environs who
recognise that although Angela Rayner is deemed to have a ‘Northern accent’
she is actually just really badly spoken, doesn’t rely on the last consonant of words,
has sloppy speech.
Her mother was illiterate, she didn’t have a good start
However,
Angela Rayner will not allow her speech to be improved, as ‘that is who I am’
yes she is confident, gobby, Northern working class which is a broad spectrum!
That she is determinedly unpolished is a source of dismay to an electorate
with high expectations of MP’s, appearance, behaviour, morals.

I thought the green suit was beyond wacky and inappropriate.

This is not racism, classism, poor form, possibly inverted snobbery combined with geographical / regional ignorance.
This is a politician who whilst attaining high position in Government, resolutely revels
in her own ignorance and lack of grace.
I believe we deserve better, we have suffered enough

BIWI · 07/07/2024 00:12

We have suffered enough?!

Actual LOLLing here. You are so ridiculous it's beyond satire!

SOxon · 07/07/2024 00:25

@BIWI - I’m sure you meant to say - what you have written is ridiculous
rather than calling a poster ridiculous, as that would be rude and uncalled for,
would it not ?

Of course she did stuff wrong. Funny how there’s always an outrage when the police refuse to investigate a Tory…

I’ve seen her ‘in action’ many times, she seems arrogant and a grifter to me. Plus, the stuff the neighbours have said about her doesn’t paint a great picture either.

Personally, I think she purposefully plays into a stereotype so that she can later dismiss any criticism as ‘anti-working’ class. This way she never actually has to defend the substance of what she says.

As I said before, if she had a PhD, dressed like Jacqueline Kennedy or if she was a man, I’d find her equally off putting.

Anyway, this is my opinion and I’m entitled to it, as you are to yours.

Edited

Opinions should be based on facts- not misinformation.

Unlike a number of male Tories, she WAS investigated by the police. The police investigate her twice at the instigation of a male Tory- and both times found she had done nothing wrong. One was the lockdown allegation which the Tories sneeringly named 'Beergate' and both she and Keir Starmer were reported and investigated. Unlike Johnson and his cronies they were both clear that if found guilty they would resign. The police found no evidence at all of any wrongdoing.

The second was the council house and both the police and HMRC said there was no evidence of wrongdoing at all.

Of course it is snobbery and 'classism'. There was no one more dishevelled and determinedly unpolished than Johnson- but because he had a posh accent and was educated at Eton and Oxford it was seen as amusing.

After 14 years of male Tories, to suggest the electorate have 'high expectations of MP's appearance, behaviour and morals' is deluded.

Where is Angela Rayner?

She was up all night giving interviews on TV. I last saw her on BBC about 6am and am guessing she is in bed. Nasty comment about elecution lessons - we can't all be posh or from the south.

And neither would we all want to be!

Given the last 14 years, with the lying, lawlessness, bullying, hypocrisy and sexual misconduct of the last government you cannot be serious. The electorate’s standards have fallen through the floor in what they expect from their Leadership.

It’s misogyny pure and simple. Boris looked like a bag of week old washing most days, couldn’t even brush his fucking hair.

Well, there's Stockport and there's Stockport!

Much of Stockport is very affluent and has huge advantages. People from those parts will speak with a slight northern accent but won't sound anything like Angela.

Parts of Stockport are very deprived and people from there will sound very much like Angela.

This is a disgusting thread with many posts sounding like they come from the mean girls in the corner of the playground bitching about anyone not like them.

And this post encapsulates that.

This is not racism, classism, poor form, possibly inverted snobbery combined with geographical / regional ignorance.
It's exactly this. You want a working class northern woman to change her accent, change her way of speaking, change her dress sense so that she fits with your ideal of a proper politician.

If Angela Rayner were ever to read this thread I would say one thing. Thank you for representing northern, working class women who couldn't get an education, and showing that it is possible to do something amazing with your life.

Zonder · 07/07/2024 08:30

To add, I'm from a northern city. I'm from a nice bit of it and don't have a very strong accent. Plus I've lived away from it for two thirds of my life. My cousin's are from the city centre and have never left. They have a really strong accent. Does that make me better than them because I don't sound so northern?
