Caucasian parents with brown and blue eyes, children's eye colour?

Hi everyone, sorry I was not sure in what subject I should post this.
I'm curious to find out the eye colour probability of children whom caucasian parents have blue and brown eyes, to see what are the odds my child could have blue eyes, if I had one more.
My dad had brown eyes, my mum has blue eyes, I have brown eyes, my toddler has brown eyes but his dad has blue eyes.
If we had another child is the chance him/her having have blue eyes about 50/50 or less?
Does anyone's family have similar eye coulours and what were the children's eye colour?

Blue & brown eyed parents …,
2 green eyed children. Born with piercing blue eyes which stayed for 2 years before eventually changing to green.

Apparently 0% chances for green eyes but both kids green eyes!!

Blue eyed parent all parents/grandparents have blue eyes. Brown eyes parent - parents had blue and hazel/green eyes no idea about grandparents though.

DH has brown eyes, I have blue eyes.

Both DC started out with blue, then slowly darkened. Now DD7 has light hazel and DS3 has dark hazel.

PiggyPlumPie · 11/08/2021 09:18

DH and I both have brown eyes. My DPs are brown and blue, as are his DPs.

We have 3DC, each with blue eyes.

TheHumanSatsuma · 11/08/2021 09:18

My dad had bright blue eyes, my mum dark brown.
Mine are hazel/green, my sister's were grey.

MotherTruckerr · 11/08/2021 09:21

I have brown eyes, DH green and I have
1 DC with brown eyes and 3 with blue 🤷‍♀️

My dad has blue my mum has brown my XH had blue and I have brown. Both of our children have brown eyes. I think blue is recessive?

Peanutsandchilli · 11/08/2021 09:27

It's roughly 50/50 in your case as eye colour is not completely simple. Brown is dominant, but as your mum had blue eyes, you have a blue-eyed gene in there somewhere. Blue-eyed people can only pass on blue-eyed genes but brown-eyed people can pass on blue or brown depending on their ancestors (not just grandparents; blue genes can be passed on for generations without being apparent). Obviously it becomes more complicated once you add in variations of blue and brown such as grey or hazel. I have blue/grey eyes and so does my husband. All 5 of our children have the same combination, some more grey than others.

Mapping the human genome has disproven many older theories about genetic inheritance, including eye colour. Google it because it’s fascinating if you’re interested in science.

PullTheWeeds · 11/08/2021 09:29

DH has brown eyes, I have blue eyes and both our children have the bluest of blue eyes.

HappyAsASandboy · 11/08/2021 09:29

The theory is wonderful, and I believed it all while studying biology at school and university, but it doesn't always work out that way .....

Me = pale blue eyes
DH = blue eyes

DC1 = brown eyes (dark blue at birth, brown by aged 1)
DC2 = hazel eyes (dark blue at birth, brown by age 1, gradually got paler to hazel by age 8)
DC3 = brown eyes (dark blue at birth, brown by age 1, possibly getting lighter at age 6)
DC4 = blue eyes so far at age 1

It is a bit more complicated than the BB/bb theory, though I don't doubt that BB/bb covers most of the probabilities.

My GP, on both sides, 1 GP blue eyes, 1 GP brown eyes. Both my parents have dark blue eyes. My dad has black curly hair, tans very easily but is Caucasian, my mum blonde straight hair and Caucasian.
I have 2 siblings and all of us have dark blue eyes. 2 of us are blonde with mums colouring, 1 has the black curly hair and my dads colouring
I have 6 DC, 5 have dark blue eyes, DD has 1 eye grey, 1 eye brown. Not possible is it??? But there she is. 2 of my DC have my dads skin tone and easily tan, but they are both blonde - DS looks like a surfer with his blonde long hair and tanned skin, just missing the ability to surf LOL. The rest of us, DH included, avoid the sun because we burn very easily.
Genetics, a funny thing for sure

NotMyCat · 11/08/2021 09:32

SheABitSpicyToday · 11/08/2021 09:33

I have brown eyes, my ex blue and our daughter has olive eyes.

My husband had blue eyes and currently pregnant with our baby so will find out soon!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/08/2021 09:33

My mum had blue, my dad brown
I have brown, my brother has blue

Dp has blue our 2 children together have blue, my eldest has blue, I think his bio dad had blue but he's dead now and hadn't seen him for 13 year before that so not sure.

HelgaDownUnder · 11/08/2021 09:34

Human genetics are complex. I have blue eyes and red hair, DH has dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Our children, one tanned brunette with light brown eyes, one Barbie blonde with green eyes and fair skin, one with light brown hair, blue eyes and freckles.
Some genes aren't completely dominant or recessive and blend to make in-betweens.

mogtheexcellent · 11/08/2021 09:36

My perm donor father has blue, lovely mum brown. I am dark green.

DH blue, I'm dark green DD is dark grey.

NeonK · 11/08/2021 09:38

Me - dark brown, Ex - blue.

DD - blue, DS - brown (although not as dark as mine)

(My mum & dad are green & brown, not sure about ex-ils).

rosy71 · 11/08/2021 09:42

Dp has brown eyes, I have blue, both dses have blue eyes.

Disneycharacter · 11/08/2021 09:50

I believe brown or darker eyes overwhelm blue eyes.
My parents and all their relatives have blue eyes. I and my siblings all blue eyes, but DH has greeny/brown/olive/mud coloured eyes, and both my DC have inheritance his eye colour. I am ridiculously upset that my lovely blue eyes have ended in this genealogical line

GameSetMatch · 11/08/2021 09:51

I have brown eyes my husband has blue eyes, our eldest has blue eyes and youngest has brown eyes. I’d say 50/50

BigButtons · 11/08/2021 09:52

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow

my parents were both blue eyed, I have green and my brother has blue.

an aunt on Dad's side has hazelish eyes and their mother (my GM) had blue eyes

dh had brown eyes and of our children the two boys are brown eyed and dd is green.

My eyes do change though even now, from khaki to a much brighter obvious green.

My optima told me that it’s not the eye colour that changes but other conditions that make the colour look different. For example if the pupils are dilated the colour of the the iris can seem more intense, therefore appear to change colour. My eyes are green with some hazel. If I am tired or upset- especially at night- they look very bright green, during the day less so.
BigButtons · 11/08/2021 09:52

Optician not optima!
