How the blazes do I update?

I've tried through iTunes but it says:

"This version of iTunes (9.1.1) is the current version"

I really don't think my iPhone has updated to the new version, looks the same to me.

Help..?

I have been on for a couple of hour this evening trying to update and it just won't work. Driving me insane. Has anyone managed to do it or am I just daft?

Sukie1971 · 23/06/2010 21:17

My iTunes says next update due on 27th. As iPhone 4 not out til tomorrow I'd assume that the rest of is have to wait a little while to update. Did last time.

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:17

Thank god it's not just me!
A friend of mine is also struggling.
Maybe I'll try again tomorrow....

It's not the updated version of iTunes you need though. If you synch your iPhone it should then offer you the option of downloading version 4. You will know it's been updated when you look at your email. It looks different. Took about 10 minutes to download. Sorry I'm not particularly technical but hope it's helped.

McSteamy · 23/06/2010 21:19

Have you clicked onto your iphone within itunes? I updated my phone last night but I had to update to the current version of itunes first.

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:19

I think it was supposed to be out on Monday (just gone).
I had a look on the forums on the Apple website and people have already updated. I would have asked this question on there but I don't like the set up on there, made my head spin

I have iOS4 so if definitely is available. I installed it last night. A few people on FB seem to have installed it as well.

You might need iTunes 9.2 - it made me install this last night before I could update it. I'm not sure why its telling you that your iTunes is current though when it should be telling you about iPhone OS.

McSteamy · 23/06/2010 21:20

You need both - the current version of itunes and then iphone update. It does take a while but you will know when you've done it.

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:21

This is the trouble MissAnneElk, I'm not interested in iTunes, I want the iPhone update. It's not giving me the option though, just says I'm updated (on iTunes)

McSteamy - do you mean where it says "devises"? In which case, yes I have

OP posts:
Sukie1971 · 23/06/2010 21:21

Ah, Apologies, Ive just clicked on the update box and now its doing it, but says may take an hour or more!

Maybe its just the amount of ppl trying to update at the same time?

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:23

So why is it telling me I have the latest version of iTunes when I don't?

How do I get it?

OP posts:
MadameOvary · 23/06/2010 21:24

I have been at this ALL DAY
I have an 8gb 3G and I was getting so fed up of the damn thing taking ages to update that I gave it a complete restore - twice! Just waiting to see if it worked.
I hope you have more luck than me [twitch]

McSteamy · 23/06/2010 21:24

Hmm not sure why that is then. Doesn't sound right. I remember when I updated itunes and it said I was up to date there was a button saying update on the iphone page.

I hate it when technology lets you down

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:24

I meant "Devices" Gah!

OP posts:
MadameOvary · 23/06/2010 21:27

Yes the option to update is on the iphone page. I have had to use the restore option, which is the one underneath, which wipes everything so if you do this make sure you have a recent backup.

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:33

I thought it might wipe everything and no idea if (or where) it's backed up so avoided that button!

basildonbond · 23/06/2010 21:36

it takes ages but it does work (I foolishly started it just as I was about to go to bed last night )

I now have a camera with a zoom

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:38

I'm not bothered about how long it takes, I'll wait all night if I can get my hands on it

Why is it, when I can't get something, I want it even more?

OP posts:
Rockbird · 23/06/2010 21:39

Was easy as pie on mine. Plug in phone, select check for new software, away we go. Takes a while to download though.

bramblebooks · 23/06/2010 21:41

arrrrrgh soooo jealous!

I'm having tech probs. I had to uninstall and reinstall itunes as it wouldn't update to 9.2 unless I did it. Now the ruddy computer doesn't recognise my iphone - well itunes doesn't at least. It says I've got to update my drivers.

strewth.

And the whole world's downloading so I am not inclined to for a few days.

FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 21:43

Get lost Rockbird!

OP posts:
FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 22:00

Mwah, ha, ha, ha, ha....

I've worked out how to get the latest version of iTunes, downloaded it, it immediately asked me if I wanted the new iPhone update. Woohoo!

It's downloading now

This had better be worth it!

OP posts:
FrazzleRock · 23/06/2010 22:00

Thanks all!
Couldn't have done it without you

OP posts:
McSteamy · 23/06/2010 22:01

Yay! Well done

MmeLindt · 23/06/2010 22:04

Downloading now but looks like it could take a while.

I also have a 8gb iPhone and am a bit worried it will not cope with the update.
