How the blazes do I update?

I've tried through iTunes but it says:

"This version of iTunes (9.1.1) is the current version"

I really don't think my iPhone has updated to the new version, looks the same to me.

Help..?

Got apps back but cannot get it to synch my music back onto phone.

MmeLindt · 24/06/2010 00:37

This is exactly the issue I have. Trying to restore from earlier backup. Hope it works.

4andnotout · 24/06/2010 10:27

Phew it's all working and i have categorised all my apps

FreeButtonBee · 24/06/2010 10:37

I LOVE the folders! Sooo tidy.

I find that the wallpaper loos is a bit messy with all the apps over it but I am a zen type person.

And also the locking orientation is very useful too - although only seems to lock vertically.

iBooks is quite nifty too - am 80% through "The Customs of the Country" (a free download) already - handy for the tube/bus/out and about as I often run out of space for a book or have finished one while travelling so you can always have a backup. Better for mindless stories than classics - I find myself turning the pages very quickly and missing the poetry of the story a bit.

PaulineCampbellJones · 24/06/2010 12:17

Done it, finally. Looks good! Now to do DHs...

FrazzleRock · 24/06/2010 12:50

locking orientation, FreeButton?

MmeLindt, any better today? Or have you given up?

Seems to have worked. Must download iBooks.

I had to restore from previous back up though so not sure if is not the new OS or not.

bramblebooks · 24/06/2010 20:21

my iphone's not recognised by itunes - I'm on windows 7. The computer knows the iphone's plugged in Have totally uninstalled and reinstalled twice, 'n all too.

FrazzleRock · 25/06/2010 12:31

Right,
My phone isn't picking up the internet through 3g.....

I knew it was too good to be true

my dh put this update on his ipod touch on the day it became available but I waited to upgrade my iphone until he'd had a play.

Last night he said "don't bother to upgrade your iphone - it's shite."

He said that things like locking the phone while playing audio makes it cut out etc and is just generally not impressed.

Generally it's worth waiting for a couple of iterations of the software to allow for bug fixes before installing...

FreeButtonBee · 25/06/2010 13:12

Locking orientation is avialable when you go into multi tasking. To multi task, you double tap the home button and a new bottom row opens up of all your opened apps. flick the row to the right until you get to a short cut for the Ipod. The icon on the far left is a "Lock Vertical" button. If it is on, you get a little padlock in the header.

I have a 3Gs and the update (although slow to download) is working perfecly so I think it depends on what phone you have.

FrazzleRock · 25/06/2010 13:40

wannaBe - not want I want to hear now I've got it!

I'd like to sort out this 3G thing though, why isn't it working?

Locking orientation is fab! Thanks for that Button It drives me insane when it turns itself

Well I'm finally upgraded - but I had to sort the os 4.0 from another computer without syncing apps or music! I'll sort the whole thing back on my 'home' computer once a couple more updates come along - at least I'll wind my dad up with it over the weekend, he hasn't done his yet! (but he has got an ipad.)

bluebump · 25/06/2010 18:13

I upgraded at last too but couldn't figure out how to create folders etc so I had to ask one of the students where I work to show me . If only i'd seen this thread first!

4andnotout · 25/06/2010 20:05

Does the multiple app thing only work on the 3gs models as double pressing my 3G's home key does precisely nothing?

RustyBear · 25/06/2010 20:26

Yes, only the 3G and 4 can multitask.
I still don't think I'll bother to update my 3G unless I find that a lot of apps I want to get will only work with 4.0

MmeLindt · 29/06/2010 14:54

If you have not done it already, do not upgrade with your 3G.

It is working ok, if a bit slow but we just bought a Phillips Sound Dock a couple of weeks ago and since I did the upgrade, my iPhone will not play on it.

And the iPhone4 is still not out in Switzerland.

bourboncreme · 29/06/2010 15:01

I have an uphone 3Gs 8gb should i upgrade?

MmeLindt · 29/06/2010 15:09

Tbh, Bourbon, I would wait a month or so. By that time the bugs will have been ironed out and it should all work better.
