Mine can dance, iron and fix the computer

ComeWhineWithMe · 24/12/2008 15:05

Dp says if you are using a wireless dongle try and click repair

or check you are connected to your main computer not the neighbours (like we did .

Or check your security is allowing the dongle to connect .

This is all from dp and made my head hurt typing it ...you could just do what I do wiggle the dongle .

KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:09

No dongle (whatever that is)

It works on a network cable - but the wireless is not conecting (maybe)

KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:12

Katy Katy Katy - have been meaning to email you to say:

Have a great Christmas and a fantastic holiday! Will be in touch in the New year.

DH says normally you can connect to a wireless router if you open a browser (e.g. Internet Explorer), type the IP address 192.168.0.1 and then press return, and that should take you to a router but the router will probably need a password. The password would have been generated when the wireless network was set up.

KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:22

& to you too (guess where we are going on Sunday)

btw the ip address didn't work

I wonder if it is the network card?

OP posts:
Hassled · 24/12/2008 15:32

Boys in a state of high excitement - probably the last year I'll have a Believer. Oldest 2 are home, safe, well and alive so I am a very happy mother

KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:34

Aww bless

DD is wavering - I'm not sure (& neither is my mum) whether she believes or not

This computer is useless

OP posts:
Hassled · 24/12/2008 15:35

Can you email me your phone number and I'll get him to call you when he's back?

lou33 · 24/12/2008 15:38

it may sound daft, but if it is a laptop, some have a switch that you need to slide to activate wireless

would that be it?

KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:38

Thanks I have

But don't let him ring if he is too busy doing stuff for you

OP posts:
KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:40

Lou33 not daft at all there is a whole thread somewhere about my laptop & the wireless switch

But this one has a wireless card

OP posts:
lou33 · 24/12/2008 15:41

ok have you gone to the start menu then connect to?
who is your isp?

KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:43

BT

I have either

Wireless connection - Limited or no connectivity

or

Local area Connection - Network cable unplugged

OP posts:
deckthegirlandboywithholly · 24/12/2008 15:46

We get this from time to time with BT.

But it's usually only a temporary thing. I usually give up for a while and when I come back it's all ok.

Sorry, that's a bit of a crap answer isn't it?

KatyMac · 24/12/2008 15:47

Well the connection is fine on this comp & on DH's it is only adding DD's on to the network I am struggling with....I think

OP posts:
deckthegirlandboywithholly · 24/12/2008 15:53

I know this might sound stupid, but you have put the correct "key number" into the computer haven't you?

I only say this because Dh recited the number from the back of the hub for me. After a whole week of not getting a connection, I decided to check the number myself. There are only 2 numbers on the hub, and dh had given me the wrong one!!!

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 24/12/2008 15:55

Oh and also, I still have a bit of trouble with the computer in dd's room.

Her room is quite a distance from the hub, with a few stone walls in the way. I have to wave the dongle thingy around for a good few minutes before I can connect.
