I need a laptop that will mainly be used for the dc to play games on aswell as me the odd bit of typing etc. The dc say it needs t be able to play rust.... apparantly it needs a good CPU whatever that means? What should I be looking for? The last laptop we had they couldn’t play rust on it so don’t want to make that mistake again... quite limited with funds... don’t want to go over £300 really. Can anyone help? No idea what I need and don’t trust curreys not to over sell me something!

Oh sorry, ignore my previous comment saying the laptop I linked to previously wouldn’t be good enough.

Somebody else was asking me about non gaming laptops yesterday and I got confused and thought I was back on that thread where I’d recommended a non gaming HP laptop!

No worries, so stick with the ASUS on curry’s?

Rust says it needs an i7 processor and that pc world one I’ve just linked to only has an i5.

Googling to ask if an i5 can play rust finds some unhappy gamers moaning about lag so I wouldn’t risk an i5

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/10/2018 19:38

Yep, I think stick with that asus

Bugger, it hasn’t been available for a few weeks.

It’ll be Black Friday at the end of Nov.....you might get a good deal then?

Ilmb · 16/10/2018 19:52

Yeah maybe, it’s not available at all at the moment and hasn’t been for a few weeks.

Is it only those types of games you need a laptop like that? Normal online games like for example roblox, minecraft, unturned would they work on a normal laptop?

If they could play TF2 they would still need an expensive one as the curry’s one?

Tf2 wouldn’t need an i7 processor, you could have an i5.

You could get away with a non dedicated graphics card. People here playing it with integrated graphics card.

Make sure the processor speed is at least 1.7ghz, 3.0 ghz speed is recommended. So maybe somewhere in between? I’d avoid the minimum requirement of 1.7 because if they upgrade the game then it may not be playable after an update.

Same for mine craft. You could get away with a non dedicated graphics card.

Again Roblox looks like it will work on a lower spec laptop.

quirements

Graphics Card: Roblox requires DirectX 9 minimum and Shader Model 2.0. For the best performance we recommend either a computer less than 5 years old with a dedicated video card, or a laptop less than 3 years old with an integrated video card.
Processor: Roblox recommends you have a recent processor (2005+) with a clock speed of 1.6 Ghz or better. There have been some issues with older AMD processors.
RAM or Memory: Roblox recommends you have at least 1 GB of memory on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10

Thank you, really helps maybe I’ll just tell then tough on rust, just get the lower one, seems silly to have such an expensive laptop for the sake of one game... I might ring curry’s and see what they can do

@NicoAndTheNiners sorry I’m back again. Looking at specs, you mention speed. What does it mean when it’s says for example 1.6 ghz / 3.4ghz? You said avoid min of 1.7ghz. What speed is a laptop that says 1.6ghz / 3.4ghz??
