I've actually cried all over a computer. That I think I broke.

Or maybe windows 8 hates me.

I need a fecking drink.

I'm 46 years old, allegedly not technologically incompetant (I used to repartition and reinstall and everything when I had windows XP, just haven't needed to do it for years) and I've cried all over this virtually new computer and I think I am about to cry again. Like actually plopping tears and everything.

If I can't fix it my son gets two crap Christmasses in a row. ( Mil was dying in hospital last year, so not so grave, but his most wanted xams pressies are totally redundant without his 'puter.

Due to a FURBAR during a.... "go back to factory settings you laggy git faced computer" session ....things went horribly wrong. Mainly cos the computer was speaking in Italian and I was tired. Probably.

So I had amazon UK rush a proper full copy of windows 8.1 in Bloody ENGLISH to Italy. DHL finally found me after a tense 48 hours of increasingly heated phone calls with me yelling "how can I always be "customer out" if you have kept me trapped in the house for TWO DAYS!"

I got into BIOS (whatever that is) I changed the boot thingie to CD-rom drive as first choice (gingerly, never been in BIOS before) All went swimmingly, but then it hung for hours and It couldn't finish the last bit of a clean install.

So a youtubber siad delete partitions.

So I did. Well some of them. 2. ACER and USER

And then I clicked next and the fecking computer complained something was missing so it couldn't run the cd-rom drive. Or something like that.

I have spent 113 euros. And all I have managed to do is kill the computer more.

And christmas is ruined cos the computer shop is not taking any repairs in till he comes back in the New Year.

Dos anybody have any ideas what has gone so horribly wrong and how to put it right ?

And if you don't. Can you please start sticking pins in an effigy of the Windows 8 wholly annoyingly displeasuring start screen of pissingoffness.

Or pass a hanky.

Is this peri menopause making me an emotional wreck due to poxy software ?

Wine. I wish I had wine.

Bertie

When I boot without the disc I go to a blue screen, it says (I am paraphrading cos I've popped down cos the iPad is running low on juice so ai need the charge and type and DS won't give me the extension cord)

Your computer needs to be reparied, you broke it, here is a code with lots of 0 in it screen.

And then it says lots of things that sound very accusatory.

Thre should at least be a soothing note of "I'm sure it wasn't cos you pressed the wrong button" note at the end.

Some computer users have feelings you knoe.

Agree with Bertie ,if you dont want to download the pack I linked to,then download all drivers that are available to you,I suspect its the top one that you need.

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 21:56

It doesn't matter what language the drivers are in

Ah.

Blush

I, well, I take your point.

Next time I am buying all computers from amazon uk. Then the whole thing will be innthe right language from the beginning !

I do actually speak Italian. Just as well given my husband doesn't speak English. But I can't cope with Italian AND "why the fuck is my puter doing stuff!"

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 21:58

AND - do you have an ethernet cable? If you plug it directly into your router it may be able to access the internet. If it doesn't need an ethernet driver.

It is on ehternet. I never did manage to get the wifi to work. So I bought 20meter ethernet cable.

Is it online then ? Even though I appear to have no system installed ?

OP posts:
CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 21:59

No sassy I'm downloading your pack.

You are not a youtuber. I feel safe with you and the less stuff in Italian the better with my track record Grin

going to download it onto the iPad now.

OP posts:
CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:01

sassy all of them on that list or is the first one a bundle of all of them ?

MuddlingMackem · 21/12/2013 22:03

Does the PC have an SD card slot? You might be able to download the drivers onto an SD card in the iPad and put it straight into the computer. Unless that needs a driver. Sad

TheDoctrineOfSanta · 21/12/2013 22:05

Hands round Wine

1sassylassy · 21/12/2013 22:08

The top one that says "download whole installation pack"

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:11

Thank you Doctrine ver kind.

What does an SD card slot look like Muddling ?Is it one of the holes in the back ? There are all sorts of slotty thing son it, just not sure what most of them are. Where should I look ?

I was happier when we had zip drives. ayou knew where you were with a zip drive. Click of death excepted.

Thanks sassy will download to iPad now.

Google has given me a lot of info, some stating that your bios settings may be wrong, however I am not going to advise you to go into bios and alter settings as I,m not confident myself of using bios.
The other thing is that your disc may be damaged/corrupted,if you can get access to another computer and have a blank disc ,you can download another copy from server217-174-248-77.live-servers.net/en/AcerAspireMC605/

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:15

Oh. It won't download onto the iPad. I click on download and it opens a favoirtes page.

I'll bookmark the link and email it to myself and whoever is most willing to let me come over and dick about with their computer in the morning. And I solomnly promise not to delete any of their partitions while I'm there Grin

MuddlingMackem · 21/12/2013 22:16

SD card is a little memory card for cameras, tablets, etc. Although your iPad might actually be a micro SD card, which is a smaller version and needs an adapter to be read by a computer SD card slot.

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:18

Look! These are encouraging random disrictuin of paritions too! It's an epidemic !

People should be warned that it's not a good idea AT ALL to start deleting big chuncks of your hard drive with all the stuff you need on it.

1sassylassy · 21/12/2013 22:20

Just load up this thread and you can click on the link from that.

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:20

Muddling somthere's an adapter, and then the iPad becomes like... a sort of modern floppy disc ?

I want one of those then. I love the cable that lets me hook up the iPad to the telly and ai badically have a poor woman's interactive whiteboard.

I like adaptors.

Did you delete all partitions?

1sassylassy · 21/12/2013 22:24

This is a very long shot snd it does depend on whether you deleted all partitions but at this moment you have nothing to lose but your time

How to access Acer System Recovery Partition :

Press the Power button to start the PC
At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the Alt key and press the F10 key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery.
Once eRecovery has loaded, click Restore to Factory Default Settings
Click OK to continue
From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
Once eRecovery has run, press OK to reboot unit

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:29

No just two. I left the recovery alone, becuase ai had crisis of confidence.

I'll go up and try that right now.

OP posts:
1sassylassy · 21/12/2013 22:32

that might be very good news,if the recovery partition is intact then fingers crossed you will be ok,I,m off to bed now but will be back in the morning, let us know how it goes.

1sassylassy · 21/12/2013 22:33

Just remenber to be patient, there may be times when it appears to be doing nothing,

CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:34

It might becuase it's an Italian keyboard, but it bring up the save&exit choice box.

While I'm here, should I press all the F buttins ?

On the understanding I don't start doing anything radically without checking first ?

OP posts:
CarpeVinum · 21/12/2013 22:35

Night Love, thank you so much. I feel a lot better, I'm not terrifed I've broken the hard drive or irreparebaly knackered a brand new computer now Grin
