ipad owners - are you still using yours?

I managed to hold off getting an ipad v.1 although was v v tempted (lack of funds making the decision for me ...)

however, my birthday is coming up a few weeks after the British launch of ipad 2 and I still find myself drawn to one

so if you got one first time round are you still getting lots of use out of it? it's obviously too expensive to justify getting a toy which will only get used for the first few weeks/months

niceguy is £339 for a refurbished 32gb a better bet than the new ipad? will i kick myself in 6 months for not getting v2?

If you haven't got v1 I'd go for a v2, simply for the apps that are going to make the most of the better CPU in a few months time. However, if you have v1, it's probably not worth upgrading for this iteration (unless that killer app you're desperate for comes out and doesn't run well on v1 of course Grin)

Can you connect the Ipad 1 and 2 to a printer?

Can you use the sim out of your iphone in an Ipad if you get the 3G version rather than paying for 2 seperate sims?

Why will the ipad never have flash player? That's one big draw back for me.

Can you use div x player on an ipad?

Niceguy2 · 18/03/2011 23:22

@Generalhaig, sorry i didn't see your post until now. I guess it depends on your budget. A new 32GB Ipad2 will probably cost £500ish, versus £339. If you need the space and aren't bothered about using it to play games then Ipad1 will be fine.

That said, the Ipad 2 will be shiny and NEW. But with the recent events in Japan, supply is predicted to be even more constrained than usual.

@Nappyaddict - Printer...only if your printer supports Airplay. Chances are yours wont as there's only a small list.

SIM Card, if you have a iphone 4 with the microsim then yes. Otherwise no....(unless you get a microsim adapter but its faffing around)

Flash - Because Apple decided Flash is rubbish. I must admit, the lack of Flash stopped me from buying an ipad for months. But in actual fact, I miss it less than I imagined. That said, I confess ITV player & 4OD would be useful.

divx (or xvid). Yes - there are several apps out there now. I use CinexPlayer rather than VLC because of the rotation lock but there are quite a few out there now.

Hope that helps

Niceguy2 · 18/03/2011 23:23

oops - Airplay should read Airprint. Sorry

Sleepwhenidie · 19/03/2011 07:42

Can anyone please explain why some people seem to be able to use iplayer on their iPad while others can't?Confused

DaftApeth · 19/03/2011 10:56

I couldn't use iplayer but have now discover the iplayer app.

nappyaddict · 19/03/2011 11:42

NiceGuy Can you use your printer with the ipad if you use the usb connection thing that you can buy for the ipad?

Niceguy2 · 19/03/2011 12:58

Sleep. There's an app now for iplayer so there should be no excuses reasons anymore.

Nappyaddict. No, you can't print from it like that. To be fair, if you are looking to use an ipad like that then I fear you are thinking it will replace a laptop/PC which it won't.

Actually I've since found out that there is a way to print to non Airprint printers. Seems ok if you have a mac but a bit fiddly for PC users. Either way, you will need a desktop/laptop to share the printer via.

What apps do your small children use? I have a 3.5 yr old who would like to try some stuff. Also an 18mth old but he perhaps is too young.

nappyaddict · 19/03/2011 17:58

Cos it mentions it's good for viewing photos on I just presumed it would be easy to print from it. To be fair I think you can get printers where you just put the memory card in now?

@Nappy. Yeah you can but I've always found its cheaper to get them printed online with someone like Snapfish. They'll use proper paper and proper ink and usually much cheaper than you can do at home.

I rarely print photos at home as a result.

wolfhound · 19/03/2011 20:13

thanks geordieminx, will take a look at those...

nappyaddict · 21/03/2011 13:38

Can you use adobe reader on an ipad? I recently uninstalled it on my laptop but have had to reinstall it as I have found a lot of websites require you to have it to open files from them.

BadgersPaws · 21/03/2011 13:55

"Can you use adobe reader on an ipad?"

To read/display PDFs? You don't need it. Apple have always integrated pretty well with PDF files and on an iOS gadget they should just open up without any need for a specific reader.

nappyaddict · 21/03/2011 14:22

Does anyone know which printers are Airprint ones?

geordieminx · 21/03/2011 14:33

there is a list at the bottom

nappyaddict · 21/03/2011 14:50

I'm torn between the Ipad and the Dell Inspiron Duo. The Duo is more like a laptop but it uses Windows and I want to step away from Windows. But then I do use my laptop for downloading films/music on bittorrent etc which I can't do with an Ipad. Decisions, decisions.

BadgersPaws · 21/03/2011 14:55

"But then I do use my laptop for downloading films/music on bittorrent etc which I can't do with an Ipad. Decisions, decisions."

Most of the stuff on torrents is illegal. Rather than stealing it and ripping off the creators you could actually buy it, which you can do with an iPad.

nappyaddict · 21/03/2011 15:21

How do you play you tube on an i pad as well? Because when I uninstalled Adobe flash player on my laptop I was unable to watch videos on you tube.

silverfrog · 21/03/2011 15:24

there's a youtube app pre-instaled, nappyaddict. it's there on the home screen when you turn it on Smile

BadgersPaws · 21/03/2011 15:28

"How do you play you tube on an i pad as well? Because when I uninstalled Adobe flash player on my laptop I was unable to watch videos on you tube."

YouTube has changed now and much, if not all, of it should work straight through the browser on an iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad). The gadget goes back to the times when YouTube did use Flash Video exclusively and therefore it just wouldn't work in the browser.

BadgersPaws · 21/03/2011 15:29

"The gadget goes back to the times when YouTube did use Flash Video exclusively"

Sorry, the app not the gadget...
