Warning on iPhone alarms and clock change!

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 09:37

My iPhone4 reset itself to the new time this morning, no problem - but my weekend alarm, which is set to go off at 8.15 every Saturday and Sunday didn't go off till 9.15!

Have googled & found this happened in Australia last week and apparently it's only a problem with recurring alarms, ie those set to go off every Sunday or every weekday.

I've just done a test and resetting the alarm today, ie after the clock change, doesn't help, if you want a recurring alarm you need to set it an hour earlier than the time you want.
Alarms that are only set to go off once are fine.
Apparently Apple are working on an update to fix it.

Not sure if it's only the iPhone4 or if it affects 3G/3GS phones with the 4.0 software upgrade

Ooo how weird, that could have been me scuppered tomorrow! Thanks

Wilts · 31/10/2010 09:41

Oh thanks for this, both Dh and I have different recurring alarms set for during the week.

Not sure work would be impressed with me strolling in an hour late and blaming it on the iphone Grin

JarethTheGoblinKing · 31/10/2010 10:44

Just did a search before I started my own phone on this. tis a bug apparently and I don't think it's limited to iPhone 4 (DP's 3 is affected too)

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 11:07

Does your DH's 3G have the 4.0 software update?

Apple are apparently working on an update, but I don't know when it's due - I suspect they will be getting a few more calls about it over the next couple of days!

MisSalLaneous · 31/10/2010 11:13

Thanks for the warning!

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 13:46

Have checked with DD who has my old iPhone & she says she's OK - she has a 3G that hasn't been updated.

Update on this - it seems it works with an alarm set for a single time, and it works if the alarm is set to repeat every day, but if you set it for weekdays only, or weekends only (or any other combination of days) then it doesn't work.

So if you have yours set for every day you should be OK, but you'll have to put up with being woken earlier than you'd like at weekends....

Also if you use twitter you have to have your date/time set to automatic or it won't let you log on

Discovered this after changing mine last night

Was without twitter for several hours though.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 14:14

Do you know I still don't know what an iPhone is.

Is it a mobile phone?

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 14:16

It is an object of love and desire

I don't know how you live without one

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 14:49

But what is it?

A mobile phone? I have a mobile phone. It makes calls, it sends little wordy messages. I hear tell it goes on the internet if you ask it nicely.

What is an iPhone?

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 31/10/2010 14:51

An iPhone is a gadget that does EVERYTHING, SOH.

Except the ironing, but I am sure that there will soon be an app for that.

Good tip, Rusty, but I have two small human alarm clocks so never need my iPhone one.

SlaughteredSheep · 31/10/2010 14:54

Wow, imagine! An app that does the ironing

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 14:57

I have no interest in ironing, iPhone-aided or otherwise. Grin

It's a gadget? So it isn't a phone? Why can't anybody answer the question? It does things? Like what?

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 31/10/2010 15:02

Ok, I use mine:

  • for Twitter and MN - great at the park or soft play
  • when we got hopelessly lost in the woods today, to find a way out - I do believe that we would have perished otherwise.
  • games - particularly good when waiting to be served in a restaurant to keep the kids amused
  • Kindle - read eBooks on iPhone when I am out and about
  • to check the weather
  • occasionally to post on my blog
  • to keep track of my period on the period tracker app
  • to budget with YouNeedABudget app - incomings and outgoings
  • when out shopping and I need to know the French word for "Whipping Cream"
  • to order coffee from (shhhh) Nespresso
  • sometimes to do an online shop
DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:11

It's a phone but so much more.

It does all the above and more
I have all my music in it
I can play spotify on it
I have an app that plays radio stations from all round the world
And books. I can read whatever I want pretty much anywhere
I twitter
I MN
I Facebook
I email, skype and text

It's a gadget that your kids would die for (mine would)

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 15:13

Dolly - which radio app do you have?

OP posts:
DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:16

Tunein radio
Tis fab

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:23

What is spotify? Sounds acne-ish.

If I have the Internet, a wireless, a record player and mobile phone and access to a library full of books, why would I need an iPhone? The weather man tells me the weather or I stick my head out the window, my periods turn up on day 28 regardless, I quite like the idea of getting lost in the woods.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:23

It's a miniature Internet sprite? Is that it?

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:27

All of those things on one fab gadget

Spotify is a wonderful thing
You just type in whatever you want to listen to and it gives it to you
In fact since I subscribed I haven't bought any music cos I don't need to
You can get it for free but you get adverts

SOBS let me lead you into a world of wonderful techie stuff

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 15:29

Thanks Dolly

Unfortunately SOBS, to use the iPhone, you really need hands....

OP posts:
ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:30

I don't want all these things on one gadget do I? I like flicking the wireless on and tuning it in to Aled Jones on a Sunday morning and then opening the back door to look at the weather and deciding how to spend the day. I like going out and meandering where the unpredictable wind takes me, I like sifting through old records and tapes and thinking back to the first day I played them.

I suggest your little gadget is lacking soul. I will change my mind if you tell me it has a pillbox app.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:31

You need hands? Woah, niche. And mildly stumpist.

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:34

There is a pillbox app

But it's true you'll be stumped with, er stumps
