Warning on iPhone alarms and clock change!

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 09:37

My iPhone4 reset itself to the new time this morning, no problem - but my weekend alarm, which is set to go off at 8.15 every Saturday and Sunday didn't go off till 9.15!

Have googled & found this happened in Australia last week and apparently it's only a problem with recurring alarms, ie those set to go off every Sunday or every weekday.

I've just done a test and resetting the alarm today, ie after the clock change, doesn't help, if you want a recurring alarm you need to set it an hour earlier than the time you want.
Alarms that are only set to go off once are fine.
Apparently Apple are working on an update to fix it.

Not sure if it's only the iPhone4 or if it affects 3G/3GS phones with the 4.0 software upgrade

There's never a pillbox app. What does it do?

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:38

Keeps your schedule
Has different profiles for dif people
Has a database of medicines
And it's free

I am tempting you now aren't I

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:39

Right, I've tried googling. What is an iPhone? Is it like a mobile handset and then you choose a provider? Or is it owned by a brand? Google says I want to go on the Apple site. Is that right? Is it a basic thing and you add 'apps' to it? Is it a phone? It's called an iPhone. Does it make calls? Does it have a sim card in it.

Oh fgs.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:39

Not that kind of pillbox.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:40

You mean pill box.

Pillbox

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:44

Is there another type of pill box?

Basically it's a phone
You can choose which network
Then you can download apps from iTunes
Loads are free or just 59p
So you can get music or games or books

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 15:45

But you can go out and meander where the unpredictable wind takes you while posting on MN

Or while listening to Aled Jones. Or both at the same time.

And you can fire small angry birds at strange constructions of wood and glass inhabited by green pigs...

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:46

So it's no different to a mobile phone?

What's an iPad?

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:48

The drugs you're on Rusty, are they legal?

I can listen to Aled Jones on my mobile. And on the wireless. And on the television. And on the internet.

Isn't it stupidly expensive? Surfing the internet on a phone I mean?

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:49

An iPad is bigger but much the same as I understand it

It is just a phone but I've had lots of phones and I always get the latest ones. The iPhone is head and shoulders above the rest if you want a gadget phone

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:49

I think I'm struggling with the point of the thing. It does nothing and provides nothing that I can't already access?

It's like putting all of my food, saucepans, ingredients etc in one big, or small in this case, cupboard. Why bother when I already have ample cupboards?

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:50

DH's phone has a game on it where you throw rubbish in a bin. Occasionally, the phone pretends you are in an office or airport or something.

Why?

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:52

No you get a package with unlimited surfing or just use your wifi when at home

It's quite expensive as a phone though £500

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 15:54

£500? Oh sweet moses. It's a magic phone, yes?

Where are we on the pillbox app?

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 15:58

Well I may have failed on THAT type of pill box !

It is indeed magic

See

disappears

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 16:03

You're really going to wonder what I'm on when I reveal that I have an iPhone and an iPad.

I use the iPad much more than my laptop, so much so that I've been able to let DD take my laptop to university while she gets hers fixed.

And when you wake up on a Sunday morning and discover that your wifi box has died overnight, it's really useful to have a 3G iPad to Mumsnet on.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 16:08

Eh? So they're different things?

And you can access the internet without wifi?

The mind boggles.

Actually, it's my 30th coming up and I need a new netbook. I've asked for people to donate to this worthy cause. This one has serious, serious issues. The battery has lost all life, the connections are loose, screen damaged, memory shot etc. And trying to write a book is becoming impossible. I have to try and find a cheap, functional new writing thing that can access the Internet. I'm dreading going into one of those aircraft hangars that sells such items. They blind you with science.

Do you know technology? I want an affordable, transportable thing on which I can save documents and use the Interweb.

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini thingy. I like it. It's green and the keyboard is a normal size. But it's hanging onto life by its fingernails.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 16:10

I should start a thread. I won't understand the answers though.

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 16:14

Dolly, I love you!

I just got tunein radio, started to browse, and practically the first thing I came across was the Broadband Comedy Network, and they were playing Bob Newhart's bus driver school sketch, which I haven't heard for years and I could record it!!!

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 16:26

Bows

DollyTwat · 31/10/2010 16:40

SOBS I got ds1 a Dell which was a slightly damaged one except we couldn't find a single scratch on it. It was £250 + vat

So my criterion were

As big a hard disk as pos
DVD drive
Intrnal modem / wifi
Windows 7

If you look for the refurbished bit of the Dell site you'll find some real bargains there

Happy to help if you need it

Or an Acer has good reviews

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 16:46

I started another thread. Somebody has already recommended Acer. Great minds, eh?

I'm not so worried about a dvd drive (wouldn't use it) but have been umming and aahing about reconditioned.

I'm going to have a look on the Dell site.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 16:53

I'm going to have to go into a shop.

I can't work the damn website. Had the same problem the other day.

I just want to know how much they cost. I don't want them to sell me cover artwork or blind me with jiggery pokery.

Just a picture of the computer, a basic explanation of its features and a price.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 16:55

This. What's wrong with it? It's ugly yes, but why is it so cheap?

RustyBear · 31/10/2010 16:55

In my experience (which is more extensive than you might think, about 20 of them) Acers are like the little girl with the curl - when they are good they are very, very good, but when they are bad they are horrid. Some of them give no trouble at all, but sometimes they are real dogs.

I finally gave up on Acers after one went back for service 5 times in two months - twice because they sent it back with the wrong operating system on it. We now buy Toshibas or HP.

If you really like your Dell I'd be inclined to get another, You seem as if you might be happiest with something familiar.
