How do your Peonie plants look right now?

I planted mine end of 2018 so they have only flowered once before

They are sprouting up now but they just aren’t very bushy looking yet and didn’t know if it’s just too early for them or if they aren’t doing so well

I don’t grow them but my mum has a Sarah Bernhardt, it’s lovely and bushy and leafy at the moment

ThomasHardyPerennial · 21/04/2020 15:10

Mine looks like this, more rhubarb stalks than peony at the moment Grin. It usually flowers in June (I'm in W. Yorks).

That’s how mine are looking at the moment. Fingers crossed they will flower nicely when the time comes 🤞🏻

Mine look the same, a 2 year old Sarah Bernhardt, but it’s never flowered☹️

JoeExoticsTiger · 21/04/2020 19:40

Mines just on the cusp of flowering (it has 3 flowers) very excited as we didn’t get any flowers last year!

FOF44 · 21/04/2020 19:42

Ive got 2 different types, one looks exactly like the pic above, the other is all bushy and green...so could just be down to the kind of peony it is.

Read the 'Gardeners' world is back ' thread. Lots of peony advice there. @Beebumble2 I bought some Sarah Bernhardt just last week. 🙈 The staff from the garden centre said that the issue for many is that they're planted too deep, but also on the gardeners' world thread, it seemed that they require patience (5 years)! as they may have been young plants, and will flower eventually. And to feed them and give them some TLC. Fingers crossed for yours 🤞
And OP, I watched the programme again, and the lady on that said that hers bloom from mid May to mid-June.
Picture of mine, with flower buds 🤞

Thanks always. I also saw that episode of GW. If they don’t flower this year, I’ll lift them and replant. They get a good amount of feed, top dressed with garden manure and fed throughout the season.

It’s really annoying as my DS, a very amateur gardener, planted some a couple of years ago and they flourish!
Awaiting in anticipation 😁

Rebelwithallthecause · 25/04/2020 11:38

I haven’t fed hem this year.
What sort of fees are people using?

Thanks everyone for the advise

Mine are flower buds. Cannot wait !

Tfoot75 · 25/04/2020 20:59

I have one very well established plant and 4 planted last year (as I love them so much as a cut flower), they look like the pictures above but my well established one is extremely prolific and covers around 1m in width, vs the ones planted last year only around 10 stalks / 25cm or so wide. Not sure if they will flower or not this year not inspected for buds. I've never fed it and don't do any maintenance other than disposing of the dead stalks in autumn if I remember. I cut most of the flowers when tight round buds and they are simply fantastic in a vase.

WellTidy · 25/04/2020 21:03

Mine is a late flowerer, so not doing much right now. There was a peony thread either last year or the year before, on the Gardening board. Something like ‘show me your peonies’.

WellTidy · 25/04/2020 21:04

This is the thread:

I've got some tree peonies which are flowering now. Plus some bush (?) peonies which are mature and nowhere near.

Somanythingsmakemesad · 25/04/2020 21:08

Any idea what the best feed is please?

Blibbyblobby · 25/04/2020 21:11

I saw this thread a bit late so this is with the flash.

I planted it in 2013 I think.

It's a "bowl of beauty" : cerise pink flowers with yellow/cream middles.

Sorry, forget to say: I'm in London

MoltoAgitato · 25/04/2020 21:13

Mine looked v similar to BothALark’s about 10 days ago. It only flowers for about 30 seconds though, worth it for the beautiful blooms.

IdblowJonSnow · 25/04/2020 21:15

Mine look like lollipops, they haven't flowered yet but look like they're going to in the next few days.
They're very full and like pomegranate poms but never last that long. Weve got l8ads usually dig a few up each year once they've flowered and give them to a friend.

TuscanGreen · 25/04/2020 21:17

I have several different ones. Some are still buds but one is flowering

Mine in south Scotland is less than @ThomasHardyPerennial’s - not surprising really I guess.

TriTriTriAgain · 25/04/2020 21:20

Mine are very small tight buds still. Also interested in what feed to use if anyone knows. Mine is a Sarah Bernhardt, about 4 years old I think.

cobblers123 · 25/04/2020 21:20

I have a Sara Bernhardt that's about 4 years old and I have 9 flower buds on it. It is much taller than last year and I put that down to my liberal sprinkling of chicken manure pellets all round the garden.

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/04/2020 12:24

Rebel If they're in good garden soil you shouldn't need to feed them.
