2025 A Level Results Day and Sept Uni Starters - All Welcome

1000 replies

SlightlyJaded · 25/07/2025 22:26

I couldn't see board specifically dedicated to results day for our DC who have sat A levels this spring. And I know some of us STILL have questions about Uni starters.

DS has Liverpool as his first choice and Notts Trent as his insurance - both to study History. Anyone who recognises me from previous boards might remember the hell we went through with DD a couple of years ago, so DS has applied quite a lot of caution to his choices - perhaps too much, perhaps not enough. Neither of us have any idea what to expect with his results. He has genuinely fluctuated between a D and an A in some of his mocks....

I still haven't done anything about accommodation which is one of the reasons I am starting this thread.

But mostly, it's for nail biting, relief, tears, support, advice and all the other things needed to get us through the next few weeks.

Welcome :)

Debating whether to wake DS up or not, he suffers from insomnia so often has a rough night and sleeps in - but it’s bloody exam/ uni results day!!!

MargaretThursday · 14/08/2025 08:15

He's got into Rose Bruford.

So happy. He got an A in maths, up from an E at mocks. I'm so proud of him and dd who put a lot of work in. He got much lower in the others than expected, but still got his place.

Candleabra · 14/08/2025 08:16

DD just got her first choice offer (Liverpool). Quite aspirational grades too, so we’re absolutely over the moon. Good luck to everyone this morning

He doesn't think hes done well :-( 😞 think hes blocking it out

Virtual handhold here that he does much better than he expected and even if he doesn't, there are lots of options for him.

I wonder if any parents go into college? Just wondering as i would go in if he wants me to.

No!!!

When DT’s collected their results they went straight out to celebrate with their friends.

Morning - what does it mean if it says your university is still deciding on your application?

It normally means the applicant has narrowly failed to get the required grades but the uni are still considering them.

DS2 didn't get his preference, but did get his insurance. ACC needed AAB
He's putting a brave face on but I know he's gutted.

*Got A star CC needed A star AB

Pretty much everyone's parents were with them at DS's school. We had to queue to get in.

Grades as expected and place confirmed so we're on our way home and he's with his mates.

Oh bless him. I’m sure all will work out. DH didn’t get his first choice many years ago but his insurance choice worked out better for him than his original would have. I get it though x

awakeandasleep · 14/08/2025 08:20

Well done to everyone's DC. DD's school are not releasing results until 8:30am! She is annoyed as wants to try for clearing at York if she gets the grades.

Skybluegreen · 14/08/2025 08:20

DS missed out on Cambridge but he knew that as soon as he sat the STEP exam. He was super confident he’d still get his insurance place at Durham and he did. It didn’t stop me having a sleepless night worrying about going through clearing if he didn’t get the grades he needed.

I’m (selfishly) very happy he got Durham as that was my first choice for him. I haven’t stopped crying yet. It’s his 18th birthday tomorrow so I think the tears will be in full flow for the next couple of days.

Shimy · 14/08/2025 08:21

@PennywisePoundFoolish Congratulations to him. Most people who go to their insurance actually end up loving it. What matters most is how he applies himself at university.

It’s always a shock when plans have to change.

My daughter one year had to get to uni via Clearing ( it was a particularly competitive year so got rejected from Firm & Insurance with pretty good grades BBB).

Anyway, she was so gutted for a couple of days. But got into an alternative good uni and had a great 3 years so it all worked out. Congratulations on your son for getting into his insurance uni, at least he knows now definitely where he’s going & can start to get used to the idea.

SockFluffInTheBath · 14/08/2025 08:22

DD got into her first choice, we’re over the moon for her as it was an aspirational place.

Handhold and lots of love to those hitting clearing, we were fully expecting to be in that boat.

wizzler · 14/08/2025 08:23

Dd got A* AA and is off to York to do Chemistry. So thrilled for her

Birdbrained13 · 14/08/2025 08:23

My boy is in! Needed BBB, got BCB and into first choice (despite them stating he needed a B in subject he’ll be studying and he missed it). Just so happy for him as he struggles with life at times and this is the first thing to go right for a while 😁

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 14/08/2025 08:25

I went in to see if he was okay hadn't looked yet.

He got the e-mail first - he's got the place at Sheffield he wanted so very happy.

He still doesn't know his grades - but he's jumped in the shower and more focused on heading in and see his mates.

Malbecmerlot · 14/08/2025 08:27

D got BBB and needed AAA for her course and still got accepted (UEA) we are very surprised. She’s just happy she got in. Not shocked her grades are lower as she didn’t put much work in.

SunSeaSangria · 14/08/2025 08:28

No results yet, but DD has had the ucas email confirming first choice.

SheSpeaks · 14/08/2025 08:28

I have one DC heading in to college now to pick up their results. Is not likely to have done very well because of life changing health problems during a level course, multiple hospitalisations and missing over 9 months of the course. But after all that they did their exams so we can only hope.

whatohwhattodo · 14/08/2025 08:29

My DD got her place at York for next year.

DC not yet awake here either....🙄

BusinessScrub · 14/08/2025 08:31

No grades yet here, but DD is in to Oxford which is amazing.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 14/08/2025 08:34

Thanks for the kind words. We're so proud but I know his heart was set on Bath. He's struggled a lot with his mental health since Yr10 (autistic burnout), so he's done amazingly to even get through all the exams. We also lost my lovely MIL in April, and she was in hospital from March, so this year has been a tough one.

His school very much encouraged aspirational universities for him, so in hindsight that wasn't the best idea. But if he'd got in I wouldn't be saying that, so we'll concentrate on Exeter and hopefully it will work out

I'm really stressed about the accommodation side so that's the current focus.

Well done to all those who got their first choices and sympathy and good luck to those that didn't Flowers
