2025 A Level Results Day and Sept Uni Starters - All Welcome

1000 replies

SlightlyJaded · 25/07/2025 22:26

I couldn't see board specifically dedicated to results day for our DC who have sat A levels this spring. And I know some of us STILL have questions about Uni starters.

DS has Liverpool as his first choice and Notts Trent as his insurance - both to study History. Anyone who recognises me from previous boards might remember the hell we went through with DD a couple of years ago, so DS has applied quite a lot of caution to his choices - perhaps too much, perhaps not enough. Neither of us have any idea what to expect with his results. He has genuinely fluctuated between a D and an A in some of his mocks....

I still haven't done anything about accommodation which is one of the reasons I am starting this thread.

But mostly, it's for nail biting, relief, tears, support, advice and all the other things needed to get us through the next few weeks.

Welcome :)

No grades here yet either.

EmmaStone · 14/08/2025 08:38

First choice here too (dropped a grade from his offer). We’re very relieved.

DS missed out on Cambridge but he knew that as soon as he sat the STEP exam. He was super confident he’d still get his insurance place at Durham and he did. It didn’t stop me having a sleepless night worrying about going through clearing if he didn’t get the grades he needed.

I’m (selfishly) very happy he got Durham as that was my first choice for him. I haven’t stopped crying yet. It’s his 18th birthday tomorrow so I think the tears will be in full flow for the next couple of days.

Ah my son was the same, (got an interview at Cambridge but no place offered), didn’t do brilliantly in his STEP so awaiting Warwick’s answer but his insurance is Durham. This is for maths.

DS is in at Lancaster! He's on his way to college to get his grades.
I am way more nervous than he is.

This was my son last year. He's just about to start second year at Lancaster. Its a fab uni and he loves it there 😀

I have one DC heading in to college now to pick up their results. Is not likely to have done very well because of life changing health problems during a level course, multiple hospitalisations and missing over 9 months of the course. But after all that they did their exams so we can only hope.

Sorry to hear of that. Hope whatever happens turns out ok 💐

Thanks for the kind words. We're so proud but I know his heart was set on Bath. He's struggled a lot with his mental health since Yr10 (autistic burnout), so he's done amazingly to even get through all the exams. We also lost my lovely MIL in April, and she was in hospital from March, so this year has been a tough one.

His school very much encouraged aspirational universities for him, so in hindsight that wasn't the best idea. But if he'd got in I wouldn't be saying that, so we'll concentrate on Exeter and hopefully it will work out

I'm really stressed about the accommodation side so that's the current focus.

Well done to all those who got their first choices and sympathy and good luck to those that didn't Flowers

Exeter has a beautiful campus and is a lovely city, I think he will love it. My son got his insurance last year, a lowlier uni than his first more aspirational choice, but it’s been a brilliant fit for him.

fannieadams · 14/08/2025 08:41

DS got his place at Bath 3A* and A. Both happy and relieved. Good luck to everyone else.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/08/2025 08:42

@PennywisePoundFoolish I’m sorry to hear your DS just missed out on his first choice. What he has achieved is amazing, even more so with the hurdles he has had. I hope that the understandable disappointment fades soon and he can get excited abut the brilliant opportunities he’ll have at his insurance choice.

@Skybluegreen STEP sounds so difficult and it’s really hard to have a moving target. Congratulations on the Durham acceptance!

DC1 has met the offer for her first choice. She dropped a grade from her predictions, but weirdly not the one she thought she would! She’s really pleased, and accommodation there is loads cheaper than her insurance, so I’m happy as well Grin

MigGril · 14/08/2025 08:42

DD got her first place offer and is very happy. Her grades where ABBB (yes she did 4, mad child).

A question though she is one mark off one of her subjects being an A. Is it worth having it regarded? I think we probably will as being so close to an A it can't drop to a C surly?

Alevelsarehere82 · 14/08/2025 08:43

C,D,E for my ds and hes disappointed and doesn't want to go into college to collect them :-(

Out of interest- he was going to apply next year for Uni. Can you look at clearing this year and defer until next?

No - clearing is just for 2025 places.

he’ll have to do a 2026 application once the process opens.

OrangeAndPistachio · 14/08/2025 08:44

BBC here It's enough for their first choice uni but they are disappointed and expected to get 3 Bs at least.

Yes you can do this @Alevelsarehere82. My son did this 2 years ago. Didn’t end up going in the end though! Sorry your DS didn’t get ehat he wanted. :(

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/08/2025 08:46

Our school doesn’t open further results until 10am! Only AS levels for us this year but I’m sure next year the late start could be irritating, and potentially a bit of a disadvantage for people needing to go through clearing.

OneTwoFiveSix · 14/08/2025 08:49

Quick question - if offer grades are met, why would ucas say uni are still deciding? Very stressed here Sad

WhiteRosesAndCandles · 14/08/2025 08:55

Good luck to everyone.

DC has two offers one through UCAS and another from a reserve list.

We have accomodation for both. One through the university can just not be accepted if he decides to go to the other one (phew).

The other one we would have to find an alternative suitable student to take over.

Supporting DC through university is all so expensive. Very challenging for ordinary people to support. Almost prohibitively so.

They are off for results and have a big decision to make.

DS is also into Bath!! Oh, the relief.

MonkeyTennis34 · 14/08/2025 09:00

DS2 is off to Liverpool to study Civil Engineering.
So very proud, relieved and exhausted.
Off to get results now.
Well done to all 😊

MonkeyTennis34 · 14/08/2025 09:01

@WhiteRosesAndCandles
Yes, DS2’s loan will only cover about half of his rent.

OvaHere · 14/08/2025 09:01

DS got his his insurance choice. He's slightly disappointed in missing his firm but liked both. Very relieved he put down an achievable insurance and is not in clearing. Put in an accommodation request straight away.

Can't access his grades as the college portal just keeps crashing but it's fairly obvious from missing the firm they won't be quite what he was hoping for.

It's all good though and I think he will enjoy Uni a lot more than A levels.

Congrats to everyone else who has an outcome their YP is happy with and fingers crossed for those looking for alternatives.

PunksVersusBrats · 14/08/2025 09:02

Same here @PennywisePoundFoolish . Needed AAB, got AAA, so missed out on firm but has got his insurance. Then an excrutiating 40min wait for the grades email. He's gone into college to (hopefully) see the scripts and get advice. Personally, I think that he'd do really well at his insurance but he's too annoyed at missing the A to see that yet. I'd have sold a kidney for those results back in the day! 😲

Congratulations to everyone who got what they'd hoped for and 🤞 to anyone in Clearing.

I don't think so although I guess it's always worth ringing and asking?

I guess they would expect him to apply next year grades in hand?

PunksVersusBrats · 14/08/2025 09:04

No idea why it's randomly bold. Shoukd say wanted A-star, A-Star, B and got A-star, A, A.

Dd got A* AA and is off to York to do Chemistry. So thrilled for her

I used to work in the Dept of Chemistry at York and it is a lovely department. Congratulations to your DD - it’s a great uni and city.

How annoying!!

Is it worth looking at Clearing just to make sure his insurance is still what he wants? With those grades he's not going to be sure of offers!
