I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

Just seen dd off for her last exam. She's been up since 5 and did a collage revision session for chem straight after maths. Chemistry party with her lecturers post exam and then home to sleep. I don't know which of us is more glad this is over. Good luck to all Chemists and their parents today, we made it!

MonkeyTennis34 · 20/06/2025 08:32

Nearly there everyone! Good luck to all students taking Chemistry today.
DS2 had his final paper yesterday, Maths.
He said it was “quite good”.
8 weeks of waiting now….

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/06/2025 10:11

@Earlymornyawn Sorry to hear of your DC's difficulties in the maths paper. They've done really well to push on through. Best of luck to all the chemists and anyone else still in an exam hall today 🍀. Nearly there!

FiveFoxes · 20/06/2025 11:44

@Earlymornyawn Your poor DC. Many years ago, I cried through my A Level History exam. When the results came out I'd done better than predicted in it (Predicted C got a B). Hopefully your DC will have the same.

Earlymornyawn · 20/06/2025 13:04

Thank you @TheTurn0fTheScrew and @FiveFoxes ☝️☝️.
Haven’t yet heard how today’s Chemistry went.

Beabea8 · 20/06/2025 14:32

Ds is so down hearted. He said OCR chemisry today was truly awful....beyond awful:-(

SheilaFentiman · 20/06/2025 14:38

Oh no sorry it finished on a bad one x

autumndays13 · 20/06/2025 14:58

Oh, I’ so sorry to hear that @Beabea8 That’s really lousy. Sometimes I really hate the way our education system works. Really hope he feels better soon x

mumonthehill · 20/06/2025 15:53

Sorry to hear that @Beabea8 tough to finish that way.

Beabea8 · 20/06/2025 16:33

It is such a shame....but what can u do.

There’s someone posted a new message about grade boundaries which is in response to today’s chemistry. Sounds like it was a shocker.

Earlymornyawn · 20/06/2025 19:13

So sorry to hear that @Beabea8 , was that Chemistry OCR A or B?

Hope that they can now forget about it and relax.

Sorry didn't read properly. OCR paper 3

MonkeyTennis34 · 23/06/2025 08:37

It feels like there some real extremes in the papers…DS’s reactions have gone from “decent” to “really hard”.
He’s gone on his first lads’ holiday this morning, hopefully he won’t give his A levels a second thought.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 02/07/2025 12:07

I braved a conversation with DS2 about how he was feeling about the insurance offer university. He said he would take it up. But for some reason I thought his offer from Bath was A star A star B. But it is actually A*AB. So the FM paper 3 he he had a nightmare with, may not be as significant.
Hope all DC are enjoying their holidays now.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 03/07/2025 09:50

after her anxiety before exams my daughter decided to defer this year.

i pushed her to do before results day so it was sorted and she has had it confirmed back from York that she can and UCAS has now been updated.

shes currently living her best life - loads of gigs and out all the time.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 03/07/2025 10:35

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky sounds like your DD feels very positive about her decision to defer, and that the university was pretty helpful.

@PennywisePoundFoolish we've also had to have a few positively-framed conversations about DC1's insurance choice, bearing in mind how hard some of the papers were, and a tough grade requirement for first choice. She will definitely accept her insurance, but acknowledged that she'll be really sad if she does miss out on her first choice. It feel like a really long wait!

Changes17 · 03/07/2025 14:08

DS hasn't booked any accommodation at his insurance choice and is firmly hoping to be going to his first choice (which also refusing to assume he'll be going to university at all!) I hope it does work out - but UCAS suggests that his first choice has taken several grades below his offer in the past.

Earlymornyawn · 03/07/2025 14:17

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky that sounds like a really positive choice for your DD.
My DC is convinced that Maths will be lower than predicted due to paper 2. They will only take their first choice but have a lower than expected offer 🤞.
The only uni I have experience of as regards allowing a lower offer is Imperial. My DC missed their offer by 1 mark (not one grade, one mark), we did do some remarks but Impetial refused to take them because of that one mark.

mumonthehill · 03/07/2025 19:49

Ds also still thinking of deferring and is faffing about with student finance, apparently he has done it but we have not been asked for info so I think not. He is juggling 3 jobs and bring out and about. He has gone to prom tonight which is good as this is the first time he has wanted to go.

NCTDN · 06/07/2025 15:32

@PhotoDad how’s things? Tried to tag you on the older child’s thread but it didn’t work.

PhotoDad · 06/07/2025 15:47

Hi @NCTDN and everyone, Mumsnet fell off the radar for some reason, but I hope to be back a bit more! DS thought the A-levels went fairly smoothly, and then the following week he took his Grade 8 in both piano and guitar, as you do. He's still planning on coaching his niche sport (he's highly qualified) around the world on a gap year, but I haven't seen any evidence of planning that yet.

MonkeyTennis34 · 06/07/2025 17:16

Re student finance…I put my info in what seems like months ago and haven’t heard back. Has anyone ?

Thethingswedoforlove · 06/07/2025 17:17

Anyone else dc get IB results today? My dd received hers. She got into her first choice uni (Warwick) and achieved her predicted grades despite being utterly convinced she would not manage it! So encouragement to all other parents. It worked out ok here but I had convinced everyone I spoke to it definitely was not going to in this case!
