I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

@Thistooshallpass. sorry to hear that. My DC feels a bit like that about Maths after paper 2. They were hoping for an A (predicted ) but may end up with a B, says given up on Maths.

DC finishes on Friday, said Computer Science was ok today. Did anyone else’s DC’s take that paper today?

Good luck to everyone in these final few days.

SheilaFentiman · 18/06/2025 21:46

@Earlymornyawn Ds also did computer science today but he hasn’t said either way (which probably means it was ok, he’s been vocal when they’ve been awful!) he’s swotting now for the last maths paper so I’m not going to ask!

ETA what does your dc have on Fri?

Earlymornyawn · 18/06/2025 23:12

@SheilaFentiman my DC in tears about maths tomorrow.

Chemistry final exam on Friday 🎉.

SheilaFentiman · 18/06/2025 23:34

Ohhh, good luck to them. DS is watching a YouTube video about stats right now. I don’t know why the late evening is when he decides to get going!

jamimmi · 18/06/2025 23:46

Just popping on, Dd had final biology today, seems ok with it now hard at it with maths tonight following her last session with her lovely tutor, she doesn't feel she will make a b for it thanks to edxcels very weird papers this year. Then just chemistry to go.
We too are hoping Lancaster will be kind @Sweetpeasaremadeforbees. Similar offer and average grade historically are bbc for.her course. She also has a related epq at A . I did ask the admission tutor at the offer holders day who said there is normally some flexibility and they prefer to take students who wanted to come and just missed rather than alot of clearing , we will see what happens, hopefully Nottingham would alos still offer as it was a lower grade. GOOD LUCK TO ALL FOR THE FINAL FEW DAYS!

autumndays13 · 19/06/2025 06:21

Even my DD who is usually so chill about Maths is anxious about the exam today given how odd Edexcel have been this year. And she doesn’t sound hugely happy with how biology or physics have gone. It’s going to be a tense wait for results. She needs 2 A stars and an A. Really good luck to all with exams still to come and hope those DC who are done are enjoying the feeling of not having to revise anymore!

NCTDN · 19/06/2025 06:49

DS was pleased with computer science yesterday. Last one today Grin

Let's hope so. DD's predicted grades are higher than Lancaster is asking for but you just never know, something can go wrong on the exam day plus everyone seems to say that it's hard to get a top grade in languages because of native speakers taking the A levels!

DD didn't even bother with an aspirational choice on the UCAS form, she saw it as a potentially wasted choice. She's booked her accommodation, knows what college and roughly what hall she'd be in, in her head she's already halfway there which is lovely but I'm sometimes saying 'yes but let's think about plan B and C.....'

mumonthehill · 19/06/2025 15:54

Ds announced that if he does not get Nottingham then he will not be going to his insurance. I have gently suggested he make a clearing list then. He might have a year out he says but I have told him if he does that he needs a ft job and a plan.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 19/06/2025 16:17

I can't see DS2 going with his insurance offer either tbh, he didn't actually visit it. Plus I think accommodation would be an issue (Exeter). He's utterly fixed on Bath which is weird as it was his last offer to come through. I guess when they've slogged away, the idea of not going to preference isn't appealing but may feel differently come results day. Though hopefully all DC get their grades/accepted to their preference.

Last exam done, he said it was good but that's his auto-response, so who knows.

jamimmi · 19/06/2025 16:25

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees I totally get your view point Dd has currently already moved to lancaster too, and is seeing herself in the labs and the town house. I've not seen her yet so will see how today went, and let her study for chemistry tomorrow before maybe having the clearing list chat with her next week.
@mumonthehill Same rules.here if she has a gap year! I may just need to remind her of that.

BonjourCrisette · 19/06/2025 16:36

DD is having a gap year. She has two part time jobs and will also be doing some stuff related to both the subject she wants to study and her possible future career goals.

Changes17 · 19/06/2025 16:42

All done! DS said Maths went well. He's hoping he's got the grades for maths and physics, unsure about FM, but there is a fall back in that he can get a grade lower and still do the BSc rather than the masters. Anyway, it's lovely and sunny here and school is over for him! Hoorah!

Jowak1 · 19/06/2025 17:01

My son is all done too! Woo hoo he said maths went well too here’s to them enjoying summer.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 19/06/2025 17:29

I've not seen DD, but apparently today's Maths paper "made of for the sins of paper 2". She's not got any wriggle room for her first choice uni, and isn't sure that she's pulled it off. Luckily she has an insurance that she'd be really happy to go to, and that has plenty of wriggle room, so it feels pretty certain that she'll be moving out after the summer. First choice uni allocates accommodation after results, and she's expressed 5 preferences for her insurance.

mumonthehill · 19/06/2025 17:48

Brilliant to those finished today!!! Enjoy the sun and relax.

SheilaFentiman · 19/06/2025 17:57

It’s done! He says it was ok.

autumndays13 · 19/06/2025 18:06

Congratulations to all those who finished today. Just one left here. Maths was ‘splendid’ apparently so that’s a nice confidence boost. DD would definitely go to her insurance (Bath) as it was v nearly her first choice so that’s reassuring. I do think we need some sort of back up plan if she misses grades for both firm and insurance but we’ll broach that topic in a few weeks.

Earlymornyawn · 19/06/2025 19:57

My DC got into the exam hall and started crying. They did eventually start the Maths paper and said it was ok.

Just one left to go, it’ll be so nice tomorrow when it’s all over.

My DC wouldn’t go to any other uni than first choice. It is close to home and DC does not want to be far away.

Good luck to everyone taking final exams tomorrow!

autumndays13 · 19/06/2025 20:12

Oh your poor DC @EarlymornyawnI’m glad it did actually go ok though x

SheilaFentiman · 19/06/2025 20:13

Oh no, poor them! It’s such an elongated time

Earlymornyawn · 19/06/2025 20:23

Thank you @autumndays13 and @SheilaFentiman. Luckily, they were not in the main hall so had more of a chance to try and calm down. I should have known really as they were in such a state last night.

So pleased only one more day to go 😃.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 19/06/2025 20:24

Sorry DC got overwhelmed but brilliant they got through it. I hope tomorrow's goes well

Earlymornyawn · 19/06/2025 20:28

Thank you @PennywisePoundFoolish. Think it’ll be a bit better tomorrow as it’s the last one and Chemistry is one of their best subjects.

Hope that everyone can relax for a while, until August, and enjoy the lovely weather.

Changes17 · 19/06/2025 22:13

Good luck to all DC who have their final exams tomorrow! Nearly there!
