I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

Well done eveyone! DS has 2/5 offers and the others are unis that are notorious for being late. (When DD applied to art-school it was all very different... her offers were based on portfolio work, and she got an "unconditional" for her top choice at about this time of year!)

MotherOfCatBoy · 23/11/2024 09:39

Thank you @Tiggerspal - I’m reading this and thinking I wish Catboy would get a bloody move on! Will have a little chat this weekend.

mumonthehill · 23/11/2024 09:49

@Tiggerspal we got a Nottingham offer yesterday as well!

BlueMarigold · 23/11/2024 17:51

Sorry I didn’t mean to stress anyone out! DD’s school have two weeks where they send off the applications. One week in October and the other near the end of Jan. it makes no real difference as everyone has equal consideration. DD didn’t apply to any competitive unis.

@Tiggerspal we got a Nottingham offer yesterday as well!

I think it's DS's favourite but he definitely wants self catered so put off by the 30min walk into campus.

He's very much relying on offer holder days to help confirm his choices (lovely position to be in tho)

NCTDN · 23/11/2024 21:39

The accommodation on the other side of the roundabout from the Nottingham campus was all self catered ? It's practically on campus.

That's interesting, thank you. DS was under the impression it was all outside campus. I'll let him know.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

UCAS form finally submitted, a day before school deadline. Very pleased it’s out of the way.

mumonthehill · 02/12/2024 05:58

@Changes17 great news!!! We have 4 offers but silence from Newcastle.

Monstermunchy · 02/12/2024 07:32

All exciting! Four out of four offers here - he didn’t have a fifth initially so was waiting to see what happened with the others - he may or may not add one but for now, he’s happy

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/12/2024 19:44

Lovely to hear of applications going in and offers coming back. DC1 has been contacted to say that Oxford will be interviewing her, but they can't confirm the date and time other than "at some point next week". Really hoping it's not the day after a very late night at a gig she got birthday tickets for, but accepting that sod's law is likely to come into play...

mumonthehill · 02/12/2024 20:02

@TheTurn0fTheScrew congrats!!! How exciting

Monstermunchy · 02/12/2024 20:13

@TheTurn0fTheScrew great news - fingers crossed it’s not the day after the gig!

Changes17 · 03/12/2024 09:36

All the best to her, @TheTurn0fTheScrew. I hope it goes really well!

Changes17 · 03/12/2024 09:37

And very good to hear of offers coming in generally. It's a big moment!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 03/12/2024 12:10

Daughters ucas finally sent by the school. York is her top choice and apparently they are quick to offer.

But we did put Edinburgh which we haven't seen yet so it may change.

BlueMarigold · 03/12/2024 12:42

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky York were very speedy. DD got an optional interview message the day after the application was sent. The day after the interview, UCAS was updated with an offer.

She won't want to do an interview - does that just get a reduced offer? Tbh on predicted she's quite a bit above what's needed so wouldn't need that.

BlueMarigold · 03/12/2024 14:03

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky the email my DD got said they would reduce the offer by one grade which they did. But the interview wasn’t compulsory.

It was a good day. Parents were taken round separately and we had our own tour and various talks and Q&A sessions. It was like an open day but really just to do with our subject.

Ok. Thanks. Sounds a bit like an offer holder day I guess.

NotLinkingMyChildrenInThreads · 03/12/2024 15:33

DD submitted to school last Tuesday, so I’m hoping it will be ‘live’ on UCAS this week. Her first choice is York too @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky her big brother got a very swift offer from them when he applied a couple of years ago. I’m hoping for the same this time round.

mumonthehill · 03/12/2024 15:58

DS today has had email from the coach at Nottingham for the sport he plays. He is really pleased and I hope it spurs him on as Nottingham his highest offer.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 03/12/2024 19:10

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky I'd recommend your DD getting to an offer holder day at Edinburgh if she gets the chance. DC1 was a bit lukewarm about it initially (too posh/touristy/far) but an open day won her over and it's currently her first choice. Radio silence from them though Grin.

@mumonthehill that's very thoughtful of the coach to make a personal approach. I'd feel very positively towards them in your DS's shoes.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 03/12/2024 19:27

@TheTurn0fTheScrew we couldn't make an open day so will definitely go to offer holders day if she gets one.

elkiedee · 05/12/2024 01:04

@BlueMarigold and @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky

DS1 was also invited to an interview/open day at York - he's applying to do Maths. They made it very clear that they were going to make him an offer anyway and that they'd just make him a slightly lower offer. This was very soon after his application, and Manchester made him an offer around the same time - but he went to an open day there in June and they presumably know he'd visited. I would say though that this is a York initiative aimed at early applicants - targeting those who are interested in Oxbridge.

I definitely would have been really scared of an interview and didn't look at courses where I would have faced one, but I think the advantage for applicants of the York scheme is that it's a lower pressure way to get interview practice as well as a look round. I encouraged DS1 to look at York/Leeds as backup options - actually his offer from Manchester also seems to be on very similar grades to York.
