I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

Another one to think about. Thanks @PhotoDad. There’s only two definites on the list so far…

PhotoDad · 10/11/2024 15:16

I should add that Anglia Ruskin gets a bad press (if it's mentioned at all) on MN and is always near the bottom of league tables. (Maybe that will change now it has a med school?) However the Cambridge School of Art (which is part of ARU) is very well-respected in the art world and is pretty much a self-contained unit. DD is very, very happy there. Although the private rental prices in Cambridge are ££££ as you might imagine! (Students at Cambridge Uni get subsidised college-owned accommodation.) Always happy to answer questions about it.

DS is STEM and so the courses are very similar everywhere! So it's all about "feel." So far he has really liked Nottingham (he's outdoorsy and likes green open spaces, he doesn't care about clubbing).

Edited

Yep 'feel' all the way for ds. Sheffield appears to give you the option of coding your accommodation based on the occupants as you can add a bio which he likes. He can choose one that's not necessarily alcohol free, but not one where everyone says they want to party all the time.

mumonthehill · 13/11/2024 17:11

Well i became that mum and emailed to see if we can get this form off before December. Hope it pays off!

NCTDN · 14/11/2024 21:21

DS form went yesterday and 4 unis have already sent a confirmation email of receipt of it. Smile

Tiggerspal · 19/11/2024 19:09

Can I join you please?
DS wants to study Economics and having put his application in last week, already has offers from Exeter and Leeds (awaiting Bath, Durham and Nottingham).

We've actually done this before with DD but still feels very new.
Good luck to all waiting.

NCTDN · 19/11/2024 19:58

Welcome @Tiggerspal I know what you mean. I've been through it with DD but still feels scary with DS.
We've had some snow last night. It's upped my anxiety with DS driving to collegeHmm

mumonthehill · 19/11/2024 20:17

Yes welcome!! UCAS form was submitted today!!! A happy ds.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 19/11/2024 21:52

welcome @Tiggerspal and congratulations to your DC on their offers.

mumonthehill · 20/11/2024 12:29

First offer in today! It feels good.

Changes17 · 20/11/2024 12:41

Congrats to all DC with offers!

DS still firmly in the group that are still writing their personal statements… but hopeful of applications going in before too long.

MotherOfCatBoy · 20/11/2024 13:43

Mine’s hanging back too. School want it done this month I think, I am trying to ignore and not stress while remaining supportive in the background.

maybemedmum · 20/11/2024 14:30

'Trying to ignore and not stress while remaining supportive in the background' sums up this stage of life very well @MotherOfCatBoy!

DD received her first interview invitation earlier this week - it's not until January, but nice to have one in the diary! Really hoping she hears from the others soon - at the moment we are having to keep lots of time in December free just in case!

Tiggerspal · 20/11/2024 19:11

Did anyone else's DC get the Uni of Nottingham error email offering them a place? Apparently it was sent to everyone who registered for their Open Days.

DS got all excited and then realised the email went to his personal address rather than his UCAS address.

Feel particularly sorry for a couple of his friends who'd had rejection emails and suddenly thought they'd actually got a place.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/11/2024 21:36

Very cheering to hear of lots of offers and interviews coming through. Well done to all of these DC.

I heard this evening college are expecting the external examiner for music recitals in March, which feels very soon indeed to be doing a bit of an A level, but I suppose May/June will be upon us in no time as well.

mumonthehill · 21/11/2024 06:08

@Tiggerspal one of ds friends did, they had not applied there though so school said it was spam.

Monstermunchy · 21/11/2024 13:13

DS has just submitted his - exciting for him but I'm trying not to think about him heading off next year because if his older brother doesn't come home after graduating, the nest will feel very empty!

mumonthehill · 21/11/2024 13:51

@Monstermunchy great news!!! I will be empty nest year as ds24 very much left home!!! DS has automatically been enrolled in the Access to Leeds program which I think means a lower offer, if they offer!!

Monstermunchy · 21/11/2024 13:54

In which case, I may well be sharing the same feelings as you! It's all good, I'm proud of them both but it's a milestone for us left behind. Thank goodness for a needy cat!

Great news about Leeds - I had the best years ever at uni in Leeds and I'm still here 😊

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 21/11/2024 17:36

My DD has finally submitted her UCAS to school after sitting on it for a week.

Guessing we won't hear anything for a while as school need to do their bit.

NCTDN · 22/11/2024 20:10

Well DS submitted his ucas form a week ago and has 3/5 offers in Smile All the standard offers, not sure why I was expecting anything otherwise!! He's had an email from one saying due to high demand he won't hear till January, but at least it's not like Durham where DD was kept waiting until the week before the ucas deadline.

mumonthehill · 23/11/2024 06:12

well done for offers!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 23/11/2024 07:28

Oh wow @NCTDN that's quick.

BlueMarigold · 23/11/2024 07:41

DD had all her offers so replied to UCAS yesterday. She can relax now and focus on exams.

Tiggerspal · 23/11/2024 09:35

Well done to everyone for getting offers. DS now has Nottingham too so very happy.
I know Durham are notoriously late and think Bath are too so not expecting anything else soon.

Please don't worry if your DC hasn't applied yet, DD didn't get hers in until Christmas time and still got 4/5 offers. I remember getting stressed reading posts just like these 😘
