Is it too early for an A level support thread!

Hello all, apologies if there is already a thread but I can’t find one.
May had finally rolled around and the first exam is a mere 2 weeks away. Exam stress has hit our house! It’s feels like everything is about waiting at the moment - waiting for the predicted grades, waiting for the uni offers, waiting for the exams to start, and then the long wait for the results!
This is our youngest DD but the first one in further education so would love to chat to other parents going through this

Sounds really tough @astuz Hope she's alright when she emerges.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 20/06/2023 15:43

Ds1 said maths (EdExcel) was "alright". Got a smile out of him though - he's all done, thank God.
Time for me to change horses and go worry about ds2 and his y10 exams. He's so laid back about them, he's horozontal, but he has Type 1 diabetes so this is our practice run at exam access arrangements.

And I'm not going to think about 17th August, I'm not.

GivingItAWhirl · 20/06/2023 15:47

Waiting to hear if Maths paper 3 AQA was ok or not…..

PacificState · 20/06/2023 15:59

DS2 happy with OCR maths. One more to go for us. Hope all the stressed DC found the papers today alright.

Waiting to hear if Maths paper 3 AQA was ok or not…..

DS said it was mint!

GivingItAWhirl · 20/06/2023 16:25

Excellent @WarningToTheCurious similar report too here….apparently there was even a fun statistics question - like hens teeth those!

astuz · 20/06/2023 16:30

I think my DD thought maths AQA was OK. Although the same thing has happened every time, where they're just being told to put they're pens down and she realises she's made a mistake in a question, but no time to go back and correct it. And then she spends all evening kicking herself and being upset.

I keep telling her it's just one question, and she'll pick up some marks, but it doesn't seem to make her feel any better.

Georgieporgie29 · 20/06/2023 16:41

Ds says ocr maths was ok, there were some ok questions and some not so ok. After messing up his first maths A level he really needed to ace his next 2 so I just hope he’s done enough.

ENF · 20/06/2023 16:42

Edexcel paper was very nice one and dd is confident to get near 100%. 1 more to go.

WarningToTheCurious · 20/06/2023 16:45

Tell her it’s one question and averaged over all 3 papers it will be negligee.

Panicmode1 · 20/06/2023 17:14

Good luck to the biologists for tomorrow!! It is DD's last paper 🥳

ono40 · 20/06/2023 17:19

Hope all went well for the maths folks today. Most of DS friends finish today so they are off to the pub shortly. Hang in there those still waiting for Biology or Chemistry, not long to go now!

DS didn't feel that Maths went well today. It's the most down he's been about all his exams plus his chronic fatigue is bad at the moment too.

I'm inclined to book a holiday for results day so that we can forget about the last two years and be away from my judgy sister with her A* kids

cptartapp · 20/06/2023 17:37

Edexel Mechanics was easy, stats trickier.
Biology tomorrow and Chemistry Friday.
What a long slog this has been.

Forestfriendlygarden · 20/06/2023 17:46

Yes good luck for biol tomoz dd says her brain is full so she is not doing any more tonight.

Well done all

Nugg · 20/06/2023 18:17

No idea which exam board but mine wasn't impressed with maths but hates mechanics! He thinks he achieved 60% which should equate to an overall A which he would like.

I just want him to get what he needs for uni and that's it really at this stage

aleC4 · 20/06/2023 18:30

My ds said AQA maths was awful and most of his peers agreed, one girl was in tears apparently.
I'm trying not to think about the people who said it was good on here......

flotsomandjetsome · 20/06/2023 18:52

DS said maths (OCR) was good but tricky, whatever that means!

Just biology tomorrow and chemistry Friday 😬

Hellohah · 20/06/2023 19:10

DS is now done. AQA Maths, he said the paper was OK but he couldn't get any momentum (whatever that means). He's answered everything but is not feeling too confident. He said it was him though, not the paper. Just one of those days :(

He's off to Corfu with his friends tomorrow, so he's been packing whilst enjoying a celebratory Vodka & Coke and cake.

The seemingly long wait for results begins.

Good luck to those with exams still to do, and relax to all those others who have finished xx

WarningToTheCurious · 20/06/2023 19:32

@aleC4 I’m sure it went better than your DS thinks - they always remember the questions that they found hard and not the ones they worked through just fine.

It’s always luck of the draw as to what comes up, and mine had done FM to AS level last year which will have helped.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 20/06/2023 19:43

Edexcel Maths was apparently ’good’. So that’s Maths done and dusted. And we are down to one more exam on Friday. Good luck to the biologists for tomorrow and enjoy celebrating to those that finished today.

blametheparents · 20/06/2023 19:59

DD said exactly the same about Edexcel maths

Forestfriendlygarden · 20/06/2023 20:23

Well done for all today.
Last one for us tomoz. Slightly different journey as she is not eighteen yet.

tribpot · 20/06/2023 20:44

@Forestfriendlygarden DS isn't 18 yet either - but will be on Thursday! So glad his exams will be over before his birthday, albeit only just.

KittyMcKitty · 20/06/2023 20:49

My dd is 18 on the 30th - the day after Prom which she’s slightly annoyed about!
