Thread 36 - Covid Cohort from GCSE 2020 - The Final Countdown to Results Day for Some?

1000 replies

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 09/08/2022 13:40

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.
Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

Haha I like the cut of your DD's jib Proggy!

Seeline · 16/08/2022 18:58

No plans here either. DD is another who could get 3A⭐ or 3 Bs, so really uncertain. Have the added complication of boyfriend staying the night due to train strike so will have to deal with them both 😱

Seeline · 16/08/2022 19:00

@Appuskidu lots of unis don't allowed care accommodation until after results day, so there maybe a good chance of getting something.

Proper working class lass- brought up with mining community sensibilities - what’s not to like? 😂

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/08/2022 19:16

A bit late to the party. DS expecting results Thursday and like many we have no clue about grades he may get.

Quick question about clearing, DS's course choice is on clearing for lower than his offer - does that mean they will accept him with lower grades that match clearing? Or would he have to go through clearing?

MidLifeCrisis007 · 16/08/2022 19:18

Apologies if this is old news BUT did you all know that our DC can get free Nando's on Thursday? (AND they don't need to meet their offers to claim it!)

It's of bugger all use to DD as she's flying to Ibiza at lunchtime!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 16/08/2022 19:23

Pieceofpurplesky, surely they’d only put him into clearing if his grades were below the revised clearing grades? Anything else would be crazy!

Comefromaway · 16/08/2022 19:41

Two years ago when dd claimed it there was a minimum order of £10 then the free chicken was on top. So she took dh and her grandad.

Isthisjustnormal · 16/08/2022 19:53

Apparently free dough balls at pizza express too: but that does sound less exciting ;-)

just wanted to add a massive thank you to everyone posting on this thread: it really is a lovely safe space

ds has been collecting info for clearing options and has found a few promising courses: Loughborough and Kent look like his favs so far. Anyone got any low down on either (for comp sci). I feel like are in ground hog day back at the ‘how do we choose a uni’ stage all over again….

Isthisjustnormal · 16/08/2022 19:56

And welcome @boxcar and thank you for the calming pet photos @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee and @MirandaWest both gorgeous creatures :-)

MirandaWest · 16/08/2022 20:06

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee lovely dog 😊

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2022 20:18

Oh, free Nandos, you say?? Mmmmmmm...

sazzy5 · 16/08/2022 20:22

@Zebracat that is really bad and makes me feel so sorry for you both. It’s hard enough as it is without the ridiculous hoops you are having to jump. I hope your MP helps.
DS out with friends tonight, he’s really worried, he lost his cool about it today and actually gave me a list of other universities he’s interested in.
we had an email from school over the weekend telling us not to read the newspaper articles as they’re all click bait and not a balanced view.
2 more sleeps

That's what I was thinking but can't find any info!

Seeline · 16/08/2022 20:32

@Isthisjustnormal Kent is the same one that have withdrawn the course DD had as her insurance, but keeping unbiased, it seemed a really nice uni. The campus is a short bus ride from Canterbury (assuming it's not Medway campus). It's a lovely open campus. All the accommodation was on site - good variety. Nice sports centre. All the staff seemed really friendly. No idea on comp sci though.

Siriusmuggle · 16/08/2022 20:33

We’ve had a panic because his tracker looks like this which is different to others I’ve seen on social media. Panic now over as his friends are all the same, it seems conservatoires are different! He’s seen an old friend today and she was talking about clearing, he’d never heard of it as it isn’t a thing in the conservatoire world.

Hi new people ! @boxcar @Pieceofpurplesky @lljkk and probably some others!

DD went out in my car today to meet with school friends and she’s ended up being out for the day she’s now at the seaside having fish and chips on the beach!! Sent a little pic …..so pleased she’s in the relaxed zone again

Fruitygal · 16/08/2022 20:45

@Isthisjustnormal Loughborough uni is where friends child does economics and loves it - she wasn’t sporty but still has loved it and they were good with her placement.

crazycrofter · 16/08/2022 20:49

I’m so sorry to hear of those missing parents 😢 My mum can be critical/glass half empty but my two are her eldest gc and she’s generally proud of them. She’s ultra competitive with her brother but his oldest gc are ‘not particularly academic’ so that helps! It is nice to be able to tell someone else who really cares, so I can imagine how hard it is if they’re no longer here.

I doubt I’ll post on Facebook, I’m not really a sharer in that way - too private. Who knows what dd will do?! I don’t see her Snapchat!

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2022 20:58

My DM doesn't even know how old my two are ...

Delphigirl · 16/08/2022 20:59

@isthisjustnormal DD1’s great friend did CS at Loughborough - loved it - got a v good job at deloittes in London in fin tech of some description on graduation.

Delphigirl · 16/08/2022 21:01

Oh @Piggywaspushed

Delphigirl · 16/08/2022 21:10

Sorry piggy - i thought I gave you 💐 but they didn’t work

Monkey2001 · 16/08/2022 21:11

Pizza Express dough balls trump Nandos here!

Comefromaway · 16/08/2022 21:12

Same here except they closed our local pizza express down.
