Thread 33 - Lovely Jubbly Jubilee Break, then back to Exams

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 27/05/2022 17:10

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board. Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future?

Ds came home very flat after todays Edexcel politics. He said todays paper was fair, he just blew the timings and didn’t finish. He’s very frustrated with himself.

Fiddlersgreen · 09/06/2022 18:07

@MirandaWest welcome back.
I’m another one with a year 11 and a year 13.

GCSE DS said todays physics did not go well for him, said there was stuff that the AI said wouldn’t be on there.

A level DS had 3 exams left, one on Monday and 2 on Thursday. Can’t believe this time next week he’ll be done!

collywobble · 09/06/2022 18:08

DS text to say Politics today was okay and better than he had hoped but added in as a caveat "I just hope they could read my writing" I suspect he has dyspraxia but never had a diagnosis so now I really wish I had ! Onward and upwards to History in the morning where he needs a A to secure his place in Leeds .

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/06/2022 18:10

We have History tomorrow @collywobble Mao's China - yay!

Seems the exams are a right mixed bag from the feedback.

collywobble · 09/06/2022 18:12

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn my daughter did that a few years ago and has refused to visit China ever since ! Not that she's had the opportunity. Ds has British history tomorrow which is his strongest but who knows what it will throw into the mix after the last few papers.
Best of luck!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/06/2022 18:16

Oh my goodness @collywobble I didn't realise it was that bad! DS has his British warfare paper in two weeks time, he finds it really boring though so I know I'm going to have to gee him up on the revision for that one. Good luck to your DS too.

Heifer · 09/06/2022 18:19

DD agrees with @EwwSprouts re AQA Biology paper. Thought it went well, although hard to tell in some places. Even with extra time didn't have enough time but did write something in every question.C ertainly didn't think it was awful like some - she has just spoken to a friend at another school who said people came out of theirs (also AQA) crying. She wasn't surprised by the content, although found some of the questions much less wordy than usual which was a nice surprise. Seems happy enough - although is a little worried now that others have found it really hard and is wondering if she read it wrong. Well that lasted for about 5 seconds and said nothing I can do now if so, PE tomorrow.

Sorry to read that others found it different (def lots more complaints re other boards). Hoping the grade boundries reflect this.

Hope all get some rest tonight ready to go again tomorrow/next week. DD is exactly half way through - 5 down, 5 to go.

sazzy5 · 09/06/2022 18:26

@MirandaWest welcome back, I’ve got both sets of exams too. Exhausting! My DS was a lazy bugger but in fairness has worked extremely hard since Christmas. So I know it’s stressful when others have amazing DC that seem to work hard.
@JustHereWithMyPopcorn that is rubbish, my DS fully used AI to revise, he did AQA and said it was alright. Hopefully the grade boundaries will move more because of it for Edexcel.
PE tomorrow, then a well deserved weekend.

EwwSprouts · 09/06/2022 18:28

@Heifer Always good to know they're on the same page! Hard to hear some walked out in tears. A reflection of how covid teaching provision has varied?

Physics tomorrow here.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2022 18:38

US history for DS tomorrow! So much variety!

ExtremelyDedicated · 09/06/2022 18:41

DS has The Partition of India in History tomorrow.

DD turned up for GCSE History today and found it wasn't the topic she was expecting, luckily she had revised both and said it was fine once she got over the shock (she found out from friends before going in).

Heifer · 09/06/2022 18:41

@EwwSprouts to be fair the school that the girls left in tears is one of the girls grammar schools and had much better provision that DD had originally during Covid. I suspect it might be to do with expectations? DD would be ok with a B (although is aiming for A) whilst perhaps some of the girls who were really upset may need A or A*s even.

272Newnames · 09/06/2022 19:07

@MirandaWest welcome back! Many of us go through phases of posting more or less and phases of not posting at all. It’s not obligatory to post regularly 😊.

Chewbecca · 09/06/2022 20:28

DS also did AQA biology today and said it was hard but he was expecting hard and it was no better or worse than expected.

cariadambyth · 09/06/2022 20:35

Dd found RS quite nice this morning but politics tricky this afternoon (WJEC). Politics seems to have had mixed reviews on here.
On we all go, another day closer to the end.

singingstones · 09/06/2022 20:52

I have heard the same about WJEC politics 🙄

We are getting there - well done to all the DC and their long-suffering supporters so far and good luck for tomorrow everyone, physics for DS in the afternoon. He is "ready but pessimistic" 😔

crazycrofter · 09/06/2022 20:59

Dd came home this afternoon instead of going to the library and had a long nap, some food and 2 paracetamol before starting revision at about 7. She’s got British history 1950s to 2007 tomorrow. She’s still not feeling great but I’m glad she got some sleep.

MirandaWest · 09/06/2022 21:12

Thank you all for welcoming me back here again 😊

DS fell asleep after coming back from school. As he seems to have been staying up late to work and waking up later this is probably unsurprising given that he had a morning exam today….

He needs to do more maths. This isn’t his favourite thing but hopefully he can keep up momentum (especially in the mechanics and statistics paper 😂)

icanbewhatiwant · 09/06/2022 21:20

Ds just came down for a drink of water. He's stressed. Nazi Germany tomorrow for history. He thinks he's not done enough revision. He just said he hates history. I asked why he's wanting to study history at university. He did walk away laughing. He doesn't hate it really.

ExtremelyDedicated · 09/06/2022 21:29

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn DS has got that British warfare one in a couple of weeks too, we can commiserate with each other over the revision help.

@MirandaWest I’ve got a y11 and y13 too but I am on three other long running ones on completely different subjects which is enough so education-wise I just post here.

ExtremelyDedicated · 09/06/2022 21:30

three other long running threads that is

ProggyMat · 09/06/2022 21:50

Well done to all that sat papers today! ⭐️
DD has Classical Greek prose composition and comprehension paper tomorrow- OCR board.
in regard to the language elements of her 2 A levels - Latin and Classical Greek-that she has sat so far - and given that nothing has been taken out and as such there has been no advance information, her feedback to date is that the papers have been far more difficult than past papers.
Hopefully tomorrow she’ll emerge ‘unscathed’ and then it’s just 4 x 2 hours of literature papers over the next two weeks to complete.

HarrietDVane · 09/06/2022 22:08

Welcome (back) MirandaWest!

DD also has history tomorrow (Anglo Saxons) - let's hope the papers are kind to them. She's been working well so hopefully all will go smoothly.

Seeline · 09/06/2022 22:14

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

DD has nothing until next Thursday when she has two and another the day after ☹️

ProggyMat · 09/06/2022 22:15

@HarrietDVane as your DD is doing MFL how has she found the language elements so far?
