Thread 33 - Lovely Jubbly Jubilee Break, then back to Exams

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 27/05/2022 17:10

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board. Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future?

Good luck everyone today. DS has pure maths this afternoon, which is his favourite and one he needs the marks on, so he'll be disappointed if it doesn't go well.

ProggyMat · 07/06/2022 07:56

Good luck all! 🍀

Volterra · 07/06/2022 07:58

Good luck everyone 🍀

NCTDN · 07/06/2022 08:09

And good luck to the parents too! I'm a wreck this morning Blush

Alsoplayspiccolo · 07/06/2022 08:23

DD’s first exam today and the subject she’s most keen to do well in - English lit.
She was relatively calm before she left, but her bedroom looked like it had been ransacked! Notes and clothes everywhere - how she revises/ sleeps in that level of chaos, I have no idea!

DS has maths paper 2. I’ve been helping him through revision and he’s managed to go from a 5 in the January mocks to 7s and 8s in practice papers (he even got a 9 in one yesterday!)
Its not that I’m a maths whizz (far from it - I got a B at O level!), more the fact that I’ve made him “ do” maths, rather than just look at maths books, and pushed him to focus on what he knows in every question, rather than what he thinks he doesn’t know.

Hope the papers are nice for all our DCs today. 🤞🏻

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 07/06/2022 08:38

Eng lit for DS today too, he’s really nervous! He’s been learning so many quotes and critic quotes it’s ridiculous. Good luck to everyone!

Wheresthebeach · 07/06/2022 08:50

Good luck to everyone with exams today. x

GoldenRuby · 07/06/2022 09:00

@Seeline DD is feeling exactly the same this end. She is claiming her motivation has gone and that she doesn't know anything. One tomorrow PM then morning and afternoon on Thursday, so the tension here is palpable.

kiwiandcherries · 07/06/2022 09:02

A full day today - English Lit and Sociology!
Really hoping that it goes well for everyone this week 🙏🏻

Yes, that's what's been happening here too - I don't know how they remember them all!

NCTDN · 07/06/2022 09:35

Dd eng lit is this afternoon because of the clash. She's taken about 8 books full of quotes to look over during lunch Confused

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 07/06/2022 09:42

We just need to keep our fingers crossed that they can recall them during the exam! 😬

ChristopherTracy · 07/06/2022 10:03

Yep first maths today. DS did his usual 5 hours of gaming prep yesterday which I'm sure which stand him in good stead to get the A he needs!

Oblomov22 · 07/06/2022 10:50

Popcorn and ChristopherTracy, I PM you the snapchat for Nott accom.

mummyinbeds · 07/06/2022 10:53

@ChristopherTracy your ds must be doing A level XBox like my DS 😂

crazycrofter · 07/06/2022 10:54

@ChristopherTracy i suggested ds might need to do 3 hours revision yesterday, given he has 5 GCSEs this week, but 1 hour 45 was the most he could manage! Plenty of time for gaming and Star Wars though. However he did say that so far the only exam he actually didn’t know enough for has been Chemistry so he’s confident his method is working! We’ll see!

I do think that probably some of those doing hours and hours a day are doing more than they need to do? And I also did last minute intense revision in short bursts and to be honest it did work so? …..

crazycrofter · 07/06/2022 10:56

And I continued this method through uni and my chartered accountancy qualification so I shouldn’t be surprised that ds has the same approach! 😂😂

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 07/06/2022 11:00

Thanks @Oblomov22 🙂

So far DS has managed to control his Xboxing, I am hoping he stays off this week as he has too much to do!

Oblomov22 · 07/06/2022 11:14

Is that X box paper on the AQA board this week? Many of our dc will be on for an A* then won't they? 😉

Seeline · 07/06/2022 11:14

GoldenRuby · 07/06/2022 09:00

Sorry your DD is feeling the same @GoldenRuby - it's so hard to keep them motivated. And I think the 3 exams in two days this week is a bit of a killer. DD has the same next week too 😢Sounds like your DD may be doing some/same subjects - Psych/Bio/Business?
Still we've ordered pizza for lunch today which seems to have cheered her up (she needs GF stuff so treats are not so easy to come by).

GoldenRuby · 07/06/2022 11:15

@Seeline DD is doing a Geog/RS/DT - an odd combo!

Seeline · 07/06/2022 11:28

@GoldenRuby - I don't thinks DDs mix is a common one - it's the Business that is complicating things!

mummyinbeds · 07/06/2022 11:55

@Oblomov22 DS is doing AQA Xbox with French ( he has his settings set to French as some sort of justification for playing rather than revising) It must be a tough exam given the hours he's dedicated to it.

crazycrofter · 07/06/2022 12:13

😂 love it @mummyinbeds ! Ds already has an A* in ‘The top 100 films’ A Level before even doing his GCSEs, he’s that committed! The run up to GCSEs just seemed like the perfect time to watch films back to back, whilst simultaneously discussing them over Xbox live with his friends 😩 I was quite impressed that he managed to squeeze some revision around this gruelling schedule..

Oblomov22 · 07/06/2022 12:45
