I tried to sing the title... It kind of works...

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to posts about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this goodwill continues.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

I’m guessing they will have to started testing for the strain in every PCR?

Also guessing this means we will all have to isolate when someone in the household has symptoms until their PCR comes back?

Piggywaspushed · 28/11/2021 18:48

Most schools did fruity. It was discouraged. LA told my school to bring it back but kids very nice compliant because it was badged as'encouraged'. The bus companies weren't enforcing or encouraging. Its stressful!

Monkey2001 · 28/11/2021 18:54

We have had masks in corridors and common room since half term. All the new rules for shops and public transport are from Tuesday morning, so I guess schools will tell pupils on Monday.

Thanks all for the good luck, we will see whether DS can continue the successful streak on here for driving tests!

icanbewhatiwant · 28/11/2021 19:13

Our school were masks everywhere in Oct and isolate for 10 days if anyone in the house has covid, but we had an email mid November saying they had dropped down to a level 1 school and that meant masks only needed in corridors but not at desks and they could go in if covid was in the house, but need to LFT every day and pcr day 5. I wonder if it'll go back to masks all day again. Ds3 won't be pleased if so.

icanbewhatiwant · 28/11/2021 19:15

@Piggywaspushed ours have had to wear masks on the school buses all along. One lad forgot his mask Thursday, the driver refused to let him on the bus. But these buses are run by a private company and dedicated school buses, not public transport.

Piggywaspushed · 28/11/2021 19:28

So are ours but the drivers don't care. One driver does but he is powerlessness the face of unmasked drivers on every other bus.

Zebracat · 28/11/2021 19:36

Best of luck to your boy, monkey

Isthisjustnormal · 28/11/2021 19:57

Snowing a little while ago in London/Surrey borders @Wheresthebeach...

crazycrofter · 28/11/2021 20:05

Lots of snow here too, we’ve been carol singing at a Christmas lights switch on and it was very atmospheric.

@Monkey2001 good luck to your ds for tomorrow!

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 28/11/2021 20:21

Snow here too now (Hants/Surrey border)

Wheresthebeach · 28/11/2021 20:28

Email from school confirming masks in corridors and public spaces for year 7 and above.

whatsnext2 · 28/11/2021 21:10

Checking in

icanbewhatiwant · 28/11/2021 21:25

@Piggywaspushed that's annoying. They seem to just accept masks on our buses. I'll have to ask ds3 if the drivers wear them. Ds2 drives himself to school wearing his mask. Always makes me laugh...he's on his own in the car. I think he does it so he knows he's got a mask.

Seeline · 28/11/2021 22:01

@Monkey2001 I took my test in the snow but that was 34 years ago! Good luck to your ds.

Spent the day in Bristol visiting DS for his birthday - lots of snow patches along the M4 coming home this evening.

Volterra · 29/11/2021 07:28

Good luck to your DS Monkey.

20newnames · 29/11/2021 08:02

Good luck to mini Monkey

Isthisjustnormal · 29/11/2021 08:06

Good luck today @Monkey2001 junior!
Ds’ ucas form finally completed yesterday after a massive wobble: Warwick, Exeter and York added to bath and Cambridge :-)

Alsoplayspiccolo · 29/11/2021 08:28

Good luck, mini Monkey!

Monkey2001 · 29/11/2021 08:36

Thanks for the positive Mumsnet vibes for DS!

@Seeline I hope you found somewhere nice in Bristol for the birthday lunch.

Wheresthebeach · 29/11/2021 09:01

Fingers crossed for mini @Monkey2001

Jeepers its cold out there!

DD seems to have a cold, did a lateral flow and it was negative. Stuffed up, feeling tired. She has an assembly to do today, so hoping once that's done she'll feel less stressed.

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 09:09

DH prewarmed the car this am with his app ( boys and their toys) so drive to bus stop was rather pleasant and no scrapping and getting soggy and cold.

@Monkey2001 thinking of your DS - no snow here but super cold 🥶

DDs driver wears mask if he gets out of the cab to walk around bus but normally not when driving as in a little cab with a full screen around him.

Heifer · 29/11/2021 09:20

Just caught up

@whoamitojudge great news re your DD, so pleased she is doing well and enjoying it.

@Zebracat - sorry to hear that, good luck upcoming tests.

Well done all the DDs/DDs on more offers and interviews, they really are coming in thick and fast.

Thanks for the links to watch the american acceptance videos - got to admit I watched a couple but wasn't my thing :-)

I'm still feeling crap - had a PCR done via the post as didnt't feel well enough to go and get tested - had a temp of 38.4 - but it's negative sonow feel a fraud :-) Still got really sort throat, no temp, chesty cough, rough.

DD starts mocks today. Had a massive issue on Saturday when found out that they would be in the pe hall (never had exams there before, didn't like the lights etc) seemed just needed to process the information as have gone off to school ok this morning.

Re Dsylexia - still waiting for more tests at school.. She has started to mention the wait to her subject teachers who have chased too (I emailed after 1 week and was told they are arranging tests and would get back to me after). Subject teacher told on Friday she is on the list ...
Uni applic ALMOST ready to go. She got to sit down with her head of 6th form who kindly spent time after school with her. She just needs to add a sentence in re Biology article she read and then it will be good to go, although she is still undecided about which 5 - I think it will be on the spot decision which is ok as all good. I think she has decided to go for a back up of Aston (Birmingham) which seems may offer her BBB-BCC. Her other options are all AAB. (York may offer ABB).It's so hard to know as although she had been predicted A*AA she is finding it much harder this year with processing quickly enough - and obvioulsy no guarantee of qualify for extra time or help coming it seems. So I think a back up is a good idea, although I've no idea if DD would actually want to go to Aston as she wants Nottingham/York/Sheffield etc.

Good luck with the driving tests, mocks etc.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok, do we have any covid positive at the moment?

Wheresthebeach · 29/11/2021 09:28

@Fruitygal ...app to prewarm the car???? I fear our car is too old for that, but out of curiosity, what's it called?

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 09:32

@Wheresthebeach the app comes with the DHs car - my car is the mini run around so no heated anything just a little 🚗 that’s very cold in the mornings 🤣

Seeline · 29/11/2021 09:43

@Monkey2001 - thank oyu yes - a lovely pizza place. Venue was a bit complicated as DD is gluten free and DSs girlfriend is vegan.... Italian seems to be a really good option Grin
