This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

From OrangeCinnamonCocktail:

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

I will report back, Also. It will be the first time we've been somewhere with some students around.

I must admit I enjoy these trips and chatting to him about unis, courses, personal statement etc. All very exciting. But when Esther and Hatti mentioned actually submitting forms I did have a bit of a moment when I gulped and thought - this is happening! (And this time next year he'll be leaving home if things go well Confused)

We're off to Winchester again tomorrow, then we have got Bournemouth, Reading, Chichester and Royal Agricultural booked in over the next few weeks. All are within a 90 min drive for us but none are easily train-able. I was discussing the railcard thing with another parent at DS's school, her DS goes to school by train and is about to see the fares double Sad. My DS is eligible for a disability one because he claims PIP but otherwise the options are limited. I've got a network railcard but that's off peak only IIRC.

Just buying my first "getting ready for uni" purchase. Aldi is doing a blender which will be perfect for making protein pancakes as well as other essentials for gym bunnies. Bargain at £14.99, will stash away for Christmas!

I was feeling better also but now have that cough that isn't covid that's going around! Appetite and taste buds still bad.

Heifer · 24/09/2021 15:23

Do you feel tired all the time? I'm still chesty, knackered (sleepy) and ache all over, not just overweight 53rd yr old tired and achey - more like 75 yr old tired and achey (no idea how to spell achey) :-) and I didn't have it bad at the time, I feel worse now I think.

Piggywaspushed · 24/09/2021 15:24

Yes, really knackered....

Heifer · 24/09/2021 15:24

loving the forward thinking @Monkey2001 - looks like a great idea for your DS.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 24/09/2021 15:35

That’s a drag, Piggy. 😞
Lots of people we know seem to have the non Covid coldly-flu thing.
Get well soon x

Hi, I've been following this thread for a while but haven't been brave enough to join in....

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn I have a DC hoping to do law. He did his LNAT on Monday and apparently it didn't go well.

Heifer · 24/09/2021 15:54

Welcome @mummyinbeds - very friendly bunch in hear - so much useful information :-)

Heifer · 24/09/2021 15:54

BlueMarigold · 24/09/2021 16:13

Birmingham’s offer rate calculator used to say likely attainment offer CCC but now says offer likely AAB. What happened? Confused

BlueMarigold · 24/09/2021 16:14

Welcome @mummyinbeds

Piggywaspushed · 24/09/2021 16:16

They seem to have got rid of those attainment offers blue. We had the same.

BlueMarigold · 24/09/2021 16:35

@mummyinbeds

Hi, I've been following this thread for a while but haven't been brave enough to join in....

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn I have a DC hoping to do law. He did his LNAT on Monday and apparently it didn't go well.

Welcome @mummyinbeds from a mummy in bucks! 😀

Sorry to hear it didn’t go well, was it the MCQ or the essay that was the problem? Did he do some practice first? DS has done a couple of practice tests and finding them very difficult.

mummyinbeds · 24/09/2021 16:51

Thank you for welcome 😊

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn it was the MCQ he struggled with. He refused to listen when I suggested some practice and only looked at the LNAT website practice questions the night before. So typical of him. He enjoyed the essay part.

ealingwestmum · 24/09/2021 16:52

Hello mummyinbeds, welcome!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 24/09/2021 17:47

@mummyinbeds what shame, hopefully he has done better than he thought. Is he applying to all unis that need the LNAT, there is quite a few that don’t require it. I have suggested to DS that he should look at a couple just in case.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 24/09/2021 17:51

*what a shame. Bloody keyboard! 😣

Decorhate · 24/09/2021 18:28

@Piggywaspushed Ds has had that cough for 4 weeks & then gave it to me 3 weeks ago. Angry

He has assessments next week which are the final ones used for UCAS predictions (as well as the Y12 ones) but he is going out tonight & tomorrow. I keep reminding him that our local uni is always an option if he crashes & burns Grin

crazycrofter · 24/09/2021 18:33

@decorhate dd has final assessments the week after next. So far she has done 2 hours revision. And she’s only planning to revise for one subject as she’s happy with her other 2 predictions! I just hope they don’t change their minds if she bombs these exams!

Welcome @mummyinbeds!

Shimy · 24/09/2021 18:45

Hello! @mummyinbeds and sorry to hear LNAT didn’t go too well. Hopefully he did better than thought.
DS also has the nasty cough going round, he thought it was going last weekend. It said he’s felt even worse this week. Hope everyone feels better soon.

Wiifitmama · 24/09/2021 19:25

Monkey2001 - we are doing the next Newcastle one on the 9th. We are staying overnight the night before as just too far but rushing off after to get the train back to London. I will be very interested to hear how it goes. We have not been sent any info yet on what is happening on the day or how to sign up for talks or anything.

mummyinbeds · 24/09/2021 19:28

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn only two of his choices need LNAT, obviously his top two and the only two he's taken any interest in until now. I need to plant ideas in his head and then wait until he decides it was his idea a few weeks later.

Has your DC booked the test yet?
