Agree that it is rubbish to be living in Bath if you are at Bristol university. Back in 1986 when I started some of my friends were accommodated in the YWCA and there were some, maybe 5, on campbeds in the library of Clifton Hill House until rooms became available - don't think they would do that now!

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2021 10:44

My main thought is, does Bath actually have enough accommodation to subsume Bristol students??

They did this years ago at Kent , too. Students ended up in some coastal towns.

Without wishing to offend Dundee, it must be terribly deflating to sign up for the 'St Andrews experience' and end up in not so lovely Dundee. It's a bit like being a Cambridge student and living in Peterborough.

Who is paying for their Bath to Bristol train fare, I wonder? It's £5.60 a day with a railcard, so a few hundred quid over a year.

mummabear74 · 19/08/2021 12:50

Is anyone else still awaiting for a provisional licence to come through? It's DD's 17th birthday today and still no provisional licence despite applying for it back in May.

ealingwestmum · 19/08/2021 12:56

Happy birthday to your DD mummabear! That wait for her licence sounds ridiculously long.

Article said the university would give them £500/term if in Bath accom.
BlueMarigold · 19/08/2021 13:02

Happy birthday @mummabear74 cub. We applied for DD’s license in Feb and it arrived in June.

Decorhate · 19/08/2021 13:04

@Piggywaspushed I think it’s Bath Spa accommodation rather than Uni of that they are planning to use.

Monkey2001 · 19/08/2021 13:06

Happy birthday @mummabear74 DD. I thought we applied in march and got it in 7 weeks, but my memory is rubbish! I am advising people to renew passport first if they want driving licence!

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2021 13:09

I meant Bath as a town really. I'm surprised Bath Spa has extra accommodation!

SandyBayley · 19/08/2021 13:21

There is a story on the BBC website about 5 month delays to licences at the DVLA 😬

mummabear74 · 19/08/2021 13:51

Thank you @Monkey2001 @BlueMarigold. @SandyBayley I've just read the BBC article. DD did apply online but then got sent paperwork asking for a photograph. Her passport was renewed during the first lockdown so she has a new style one so I'm not quite sure why they couldn't process the online application.

KingscoteStaff · 19/08/2021 13:55

I think Bath itself was quite chokka last year. Wasn't it @MrKlaw who had a DC placed in a Graduate hall?

MrKlaw · 19/08/2021 14:17

Yes although that was 2 years ago (!) and DS did apply through clearing.

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2021 14:57

We had to send a photo. Licence eventually came back but was v slow. More like 3 moths than 5....

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2021 15:10

Or months even...

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2021 15:38

We had a letter from NHS yesterday saying Ds could have a vaccine. If I try to book online it says he isn't eligible still. The nearby walk-in centre says over 18 only...though apparently that has been closed all week due to no vaccines. So I guess we will have to go further away and hope he can get one.

Decorhate · 19/08/2021 15:57

@icanbewhatiwant Keep an eye out for one off events - I think there is one in the next town to us next weekend

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2021 16:00

@Decorhate ok thanks. Though not heard of any at all our way. He's got a driving lesson in Norwich tomorrow. I'm tempted to take him to a walk-in while there.

Zandathepanda · 19/08/2021 16:08

icanbe put Norwich in here and see if there are any suitable. Take your vaccine letter and his nhs number to make it quicker.

Decorhate · 19/08/2021 16:43

Ds is just back from our local vaccination centre - it’s basically a bus parked in the high street now, whereas before they were using a couple of big indoor venues.

I don’t think he had a letter and I was also unable to book him in online. However someone kindly posted on a local FB page that they were taking 16/17 year olds in the pop-up place & took a photo of the opening hours. I would not have known about it otherwise

Oblomov21 · 19/08/2021 17:07

That Bristol v Bath accommodation thing is very poor and would hack me off.

Ds1 got a vaccination letter yesterday, plus I got his nhs text, and also a text from our GP. 3 alerts.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/08/2021 17:12

DS did a walk in about 10 or 11 days ago. All his friends seem to think they need to wait for an invitation but they don't, just find a local one online and head down there.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 19/08/2021 17:32

Ds had his walk in vaccination yesterday: he was a bit nervous but went very well, just a slightly sore arm this morning. Need to do a proper catch up on the thread, but in the meantime Cake for @mummabear74's dd!

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2021 17:37

@Zandathepanda yes I know there are a few in Norwich. I was hoping for one nearer to home. But I might look for one after his lesson tomorrow. He's not keen though. But I will get him one either tomorrow afternoon or Sunday. He's going to a football match Saturday, so that day is out.
