A snuggly blanket or bedspread (as opposed to a mere duvet) was missing from ds1's room for the first term. And a table lamp as opposed to desk lamp. He didn't think he needed these things, but it made his room a bit bleak I think. I remedied the snuggly blanket over Christmas. It has cactuses on it- an elusive brushed Cotton and acrylic blend! He took it back yesterday.

But your dd probably has a snuggly blanket already Lonicera...

tbh all the stuff I sent with him hasn't been used much, I think warm clothes would have been the best expenditure..really good coat, really good walking shoes, proper jumpers, thermal underwear. That is what he really uses in daily life now and would never think to buy himself or buy the Primark version. I ended up sending up along later in dribs and drabs. Next thing I can see him needing is a proper hat, so far he has refused to wear one, even a beanie, but the cold of the Cotswolds is pretty intense.

As I imagine it feels in on the Tyne and in Glasgow.

Ds1 now says he is coming back again to see us. He says the 18th is when things properly start again.

Obviously you can add a potato masher!!Grin

UrsulaPandress · 10/01/2019 19:39

Sorry Nettle but I am proper snorting at the notion of the cold Cotswolds.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/01/2019 19:50

You fell off my tio again.

I'm glad your ds has a blanket now nettles. DD had a couple of blankets already, including an electric one as her room at home is freezing! She feels very snuggly in her uni room.

I feel like I barely saw her when she was home. She was either working or hanging out in her bedroom, although I suppose she did join us on a couple of family days. She went home a week early because she had an essay to write (for Italian, not computing) and all her group of friends were going back early as well. I sent her back on the train, as it's not far really and I had a LOT of work to do last weekend. This weekend would have been easier to fit in a trip back to uni. She was laden down with bags but I'm sure she managed. I haven't heard from her since then, and I'm not really expecting to unless there's a problem.

She's sort of sorted with a house for next year, as a friend's dad is buying a house which he's going to let to 5 of them (including the friend obvs).

That's a very similar list to dds. I've added snow boots to the return to uni pile. Wink

All of my friends laughed at the length of my list last August but then they all used it! Hmm

LoniceraJaponica · 11/01/2019 08:44

I am going to copy and paste the list into my university folder.

Nettleskeins · 11/01/2019 09:27

that is an awesome list Marmite.

In honour of my car returning from its MOT (always a source of dread) I've driven dd to school, passing ds1's old school in the process. Such a strange feeling. So much lighter and yet, there is a lot of nostalgia for the lost opportunities of his teenagerdom. All the paths he didn't get to tread whilst at school..sports, D of E, debating, meeting up with friends. Yes he did other great things there but it is affecting me subconsciously - I feel as if I've been suffering this "responsibility"/things should have been different tension for the last four years that is going to take a while to disperse..

which is why I am not best pleased that he has come home again, citing hot meals and company..Smile

starfleet · 11/01/2019 09:28

That was also very similar to our list marmite.

Definitely the clothes drier - although I bought one DS was insistent that he didn't need it. He took it back after his first visit home.

Hangers - you'll need those and the big blue Ikea bags are good for laundry etc.

I photocopied/scanned all of DS's documents - he took the originals initially and then brought them back after registration and swapped for the copies - i don't think he'll be needing them again but "just in case".
