Just seen my post. He has never massaged anyone as far as I know Grin

I was a bit sharp with him, and told him off for using his phone at the table. I just said it was rude to message other people in company and that I say the same to DD. I think the break up will happen after the new year as they have already made plans for it.

I hope your DS feels better soon Knotaknitter

At DD's school anyone other than the recipient of the certificates has to have a letter of authority from the recipient to collect them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/12/2018 09:06

Thanks :)

What a slow car crash this seems to be Lonicera.

Downey the reuniting at the airport sounds so sweet :)

My wool hasn't arrived yet. Hurry up wool! I've got box sets lined up and I'm already to go.
Ive finished work a day early so that I can get this tip of a house gently sorted, get the washing done and get things like the marzipan on the cake. Otherwise, at this rate we will just be having to slice marzipan off the block and balance it on slices of cake.

We haven't heard anything about A level certificates either. Would expect the sixth form to contact dd directly though.
All this talk of holidays seems like a different world. dd is enjoying her job, but being in retail she only has Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years day as holiday. Her contract has been extended but is unlikely to become permanent.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/12/2018 13:36

School contacted the parents in our case because they wouldn't have the addresses or email addresses of the students away at university. We were sent a letter by post inviting DD and us to an awards evening.

TBH it was rather dull and IMO not worth going to. DD only keeps in touch with one girl and wasn't bothered about going to the pub afterwards.

PandaG · 21/12/2018 15:59

DS had a letter come addressed to us. No awards, just certificate presentation. I was a bit sad for him, he missed out on award for all a at gcse by 2 ums in German, but he still got 10 and an a, and an a (top mark) in ad maths - and students who got 9 got awards for getting all . He was a bit miffed that he got more stars, but no award. I hoped he would get a mention for all * at A level - he and a number of his cohort did, but no awards for anything. Money probably, there was no gcse presentation evening at all.

PandaG · 21/12/2018 16:00

Gah, bit in the middle should not be bold, but be surrounded by *!!

Sunndowne · 21/12/2018 16:10

My DD and friends reported a very unceremonious award ceremony. Was a bit flat. Apparently, head of 6th has a very naughty yr 12 to keep her focus elsewhere.
She also missed out twice on special mention for exams for similar reasons panda. But she was head girl and received all sorts of opportunities for that. Have warm feeling about my DCs secondary schools - they did help my DC.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/12/2018 16:25

At DD's awards celebration most of the students who won awards won them on achievement rather than effort. IMO the girl who really deserved her award didn't get any *, but went through a lot to get where she did.

PandaG · 21/12/2018 19:18

I think effort and resilience rewards are so important, probably much more so than achievement. It was simply that achievement got rewarded for others in y11 that I hoped it would be in y13. The school has been great for both my dc, I shouldn't really whinge.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/12/2018 19:56

I shouldn't either Panda. DD ended up with AAA at A level, so I'm happy with that and so is DD.

Marmite I sincerely hope that in 2019 you get a full bill of health x

What a year 2018 has been. A year of massive change for so many of us and I have really appreciated the support and solidarity from others on this thread.

May 2019 be a year of many blessings for all of you and your dc.

LoniceraJaponica · 24/12/2018 08:30

Merry Christmas to all of you, and a happy and healthy new year. I hope your health issues are resolved Marmite, and those of anyone else who has struggled with their health this year - mental and physical.

MsAwesomeDragon · 24/12/2018 08:57

Merry Christmas everybody!!

You'd fallen off my tio.

DD came home last weekend. She's been at work the 3 busiest days of the year, with records broken for how busy her McDonald's was on Saturday. It was their busiest day ever.

I've finally got some actual information about how it's going this week. I normally just get a text each week letting me know she's still alive. She's absolutely loving her course, although it's still not massively challenging yet but she thinks that will change as it's getting harder. She's got a good group of friends, and one of their parents is buying a house for them to rent next year (I'd do that if I had the money but I don't). She's handed in 2 assignments but hasn't had results back for either of them.

I hope you are all enjoying having your DC home for Christmas.

TheFirstOHN · 24/12/2018 09:07

Wishing you all a happy Christmas.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/12/2018 09:09

Wishing you all a merry Christmas!
Obviously it's a normal day here in China, but we are celebrating safe in the knowledge that it's possible to nip out for extra batteries and snacks - feeling rather smug that we escape the chaos, supermarket congestion and panic buying in the UK! I also feel pretty smug and relaxed when the supermarkets are packed here in the countdown to Chinese New Year: we will be flying to Australia to escape the chaos and mass movement of people.
It's great to have ds home.

TheFirstOHN · 24/12/2018 09:18

ShanghaiDiva that sounds like the best of both worlds.

catndogslife · 24/12/2018 13:47

Christmas Wishes to everyone on here and their dcs and thanks to all on this thread for your support during 2018. What an eventful year for us all and a year of change.
dd finishing work today and deserves a Christmas break.

Nettleskeins · 24/12/2018 16:00

Happy Christmas. I am just feeling a bit despondent about my lovely handsome ds1 who is Still in BED having refused to join a family cinema trip, but we had a lovely family day yesterday with cousins and he was in good form, and went out to see his auntie too afterwards. Hope we make it through tomorrow without a big argument!!!!! Ds2 is not coping with the interloper Shock

HardwickWhite · 24/12/2018 18:51

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you all. Lots of happy healthy children and parents.

I’ve been sulking today because I’ve let lots of little things pile up and get to me, but i’ve decided a much healthier response will be to sit here and finish the chocolate dipped orange peel and let the teenagers cook dinner. I may also have a festive 🍷 later. Xmas Blush

UrsulaPandress · 24/12/2018 19:11

Merry Christmas everyone. Just the three of us tomorrow for the first time ever. And no horse to do so I can hit the booze whenever I want.

Strange times.
