DS1 is coming back from Reading late tonight. I cannot imagine what state everything will be in.

Lucycat · 26/08/2018 19:09

DD escaped from Leeds Festival early due to the rain but the replacement bus service and train engineering works meant a VERY long journey home - 2 1/2 hrs that should have taken one..... another lesson added to the 'being an adult' folder 😂

starfleet · 26/08/2018 19:21

DS is hanging on at Leeds for Kendrick Lamar tonight. I hope he is worth it!

Lucycat · 26/08/2018 19:42

starfleet I hope he enjoys it. DD loved Fall Out Boy last night but she's more of a Download kinda girl 😂 Prepare for mud though - does he know how to use the washing machine?

starfleet · 26/08/2018 20:00

Lucycat - he doesn't but after tomorrow he'll definitely know! It wasn't bad last year - I think they got away with decent weather.

He loved Travis Scott last night. I was a little envious as there have been some really good artists on this time. There are a few that I would have liked to see.

GnomeDePlume · 26/08/2018 20:01

I am most impressed by all this blanket making. My only personalised contributions to the preparations are blackberry vodka and the rainy day box. Just waiting for the origami paper and Pit (excellent card game if you don't know it) to arrive and the box is complete.

watfordmummy · 26/08/2018 20:12

@GnomeDePlume - many hours and although not perfect, made with love (OK saying that to make up for wonky seams GrinGrin)

DD's looking forward to Panic! at the Disco tonight.

No blanket making here, but I do need to unravel and reknit an icelandic jumper I made her last winter that came out too big.

I might learn crochet when she's gone and see if I can make her a blanket for Christmas.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2018 20:29

We saw Panic at Leeds 3 years ago. They were brilliant.

TheThirdOfHerName · 26/08/2018 20:32

Watfordmummy I love the quilt!
There's a company that makes quilts out of t-shirts but they are very expensive.

voilets · 26/08/2018 20:44

What an amazing quilt!

raspberryrippleicecream · 26/08/2018 20:47

The quilt is gorgeous.

I am going to drop big hints to my sister who quilts.

GnomeDePlume · 26/08/2018 21:18

watfordmummy that is so impressive!

watfordmummy · 26/08/2018 21:25

Thank you all, it contains fabric from his nursery curtains, his sweatshirt from the school he went to until the end of year 1. His sports kit from his prep school (with working zip pockets from trackie bottoms), blazer and sports kit from his senior school, football kit, ju jistsu gee, embroidered towelling dressing gown, cricket top, and various t shirts.

Have now started collecting for DS2 Blush.

TheThirdOfHerName · 26/08/2018 21:40

I'm guessing he's a spurs fan...

Mistigri · 26/08/2018 21:47

I am seriously impressed at the knitting and quilting. My contribution to nest-flying has been limited to opening my chequebook Confused

Badkitten, she has a small furnished studio flat to herself - it would be a squeeze for two (and there is only one bed anyway!)

starfleet · 26/08/2018 22:17

That's a fabulous quilt and what lovely sentiment using fabric from his life as it were.

I don't knit/sew/craft but I admire those who can/do. My DM and DS do lots but that gene passed me by.

Just in case some of you are still shopping John Lewis have some bargain towel bales for £5 still in stock.

watfordmummy · 26/08/2018 22:18

@TheThirdOfHerName how did you guess?? GrinGrin

TheThirdOfHerName · 26/08/2018 22:21
Grin I know literally nothing about football, but DD has a friend who follows the same team, and DD buys her little bits of Spurs-related memorabilia sometimes.
MsAwesomeDragon · 26/08/2018 22:30

I can crochet, I'll teach you if you like raspberry. I'm trying to crochet a blanket for DD, but it's currently the size of a baby blanket and I won't have much time once we're back at school.

I'm currently in a less than waterproof tent with dd2! I didn't know it was not entirely waterproof until we put it up today in the rain and it started dripping on us! Luckily it's stopped raining now, we have dried the worst of it with a towel, and I read to dd2 until she fell asleep.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/08/2018 22:42

I think today's rain would test any tent!

Watford that is seriously impressive! dd used to collect badges and I have a fine line in protest badges. I attached them all to a fleece for dd, it's more like chain mail than a usable blanket.

That's useful to know starfleet. Thank you!
Misti that's so grownup! It sounds dead romantic too.

I shall look up 'pit' but I'm afraid the blackberry gin is all mine. Sloes were poor picking this year.

Downeyhouse · 27/08/2018 00:36

Love the blanket Watford.

Wish I could sew but am useless at any handcrafts.

Just finished a 1 week camping trip here in the USA but there was no rain. Leaky tents sounds a bit miserable :(

We are spending tonight in a college town and the students all arrived back this weekend.

Ds and his mate who is here with us are out for the evening - the idea of 4000 odd 18 years girls who have been in uni less than 48 hours was a great draw! They have going off to explore. Will be interesting to compare their alcohol free evening (the drinking age is 21) to Freshers in the UK when he arrives.

This time in 4 weeks I will have just dropped Ds off! The clock is ticking.

GnomeDePlume · 27/08/2018 06:50

OYBBK blackberries have been amazing this year for some reason. It has been the first year of having a full crop from our allotment plants (thornless varieties!). I will be making a batch of blackberry gin and the same of vodka. Shall I save you a bottle? Wink

Pit is a game I first played as a child. It is a great icebreaker and can be played drunk or sober. It is loud though!

Planning to take DD2 out to buy clothing essentials today. Lots of pants, socks, t shirts etc. Also made a massive store cupboard list with her so might start on that as well.

HardwickWhite · 27/08/2018 07:31

We are currently on holiday relatively close to DD’s university town. It was booked before she even applied, and since the drive here took over 10 hours, I am now dreading the drop off journey, since at least this time DH and I could share the load.

We’re all spending the day in her university town today, so she can show everyone where her halls are. I’m hoping that will help everyone picture her going about her day when she goes.

No crafting here, but I did get her a nice blanket from ikea Grin

ShanghaiDiva · 27/08/2018 07:32

Wow - love the quilt!
Just dropped Ds at the airport with 40 kilos of essentials. We will shop for the remainder when I fly back to the UK in September.
