Just noticed we were running out of thread!

DD has her final exam today, but looks shocking on account of trawling Twitter in to the early hours watching the election. She was already awake and looking again when I stuck my head in at 7am. Here's hoping she copes better on poor sleep than I do, this is a key exam for her!

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/06/2017 14:16

DS1 also has his last exam today, on two hours of sleep.

PandaG · 09/06/2017 16:45

Chemistry was a nightmare apparently. Oh well, at least it doesn't actually count towards the a level, hope it doesn't affect uni offers or predicted grades. DS went to bed not long after the exit polls, but was still awake at gone one, and up before 6...exam and election nerves on the same night not a good combination. Hope all out politically interested teens did OK...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2017 16:56

oh no NoHaudin, glad you were close.

Computing had a very wordy long opinion question, much to the disgust of dd. She likes the technical side not the waffling side. A few friends didn't spot the 6 marker on the back page. Those poor kids :(

A lot of them did the paper on not very much sleep as well. dd managed a full night thank goodness. She's interested in politics (can't think where she gets that from...) but even more interested in sleep.

They probably won't get a vote in the next general election either. Confused

DD said chemistry was awful (AQA). She had done loads of revision and found that some questions covered topics that they haven't learned yet. She cried after the exam. If it really was awful for everyone hopefully the grade boundaries will be lower.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2017 17:17

there is too much pressure Iam.

DD said Chemistry was ok-ish. She'd made some mistakes, but had time to go back and correct them, so is happy enough. She looks absolutely shattered though. That's us done. August 17th seems really really far away right now, but I'm sure it will be here in a whizz.

HesMyLobster · 09/06/2017 17:52

Gosh NoHaudin, what a nightmare!
Thank goodness the school called you - and that you weren't far!

I had to wake dd up from the sofa at about 1am and send her to bed.
She's another one annoyed not to have been able to vote.

Sending Wine and Cake to all who have had tough exams today - I'd heard from dd's friends that chemistry was particularly brutal.

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/06/2017 18:24

Surprisingly, DS1 was really pleased with how today's exam went; definitely the best of the bunch.

birdlover1977 · 09/06/2017 18:57

Hello all, my daughter did the last of her AS exams today Chemistry! She is worried that she will not get above D, poor thing. If that happens she will have to re-take year 12 even though she is confident she has done well in Psychology and Biology. I've told her not to worry - it's over now and repeating Year 12 isn't the end of the world! I'm just glad it's over now.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/06/2017 20:19

Dd was disappointed not to be able to vote, but she's now counting on another one fairly soon, but after October so she can go and vote in that one. Dd2 (age 7) DID get to vote, as I let her put the cross in the right place on my ballot paper and post it in the box. She was thrilled.

Iamastonished · 09/06/2017 22:13

birdlover1977 DD also did psychology and biology, plus geography, and is happy enough with how they went. Chemistry paper 1 went OK as well, but today's paper was a disaster. It seems as if some of the topics hadn't been taught. She will be distraught if her chemistry result is poor as she wants to do biochemistry.

TheDrsDocMartens · 10/06/2017 10:11

I'm counting on a 2018 election so dd1 can vote. Prob November though.

FantasyAndHope · 10/06/2017 18:53

Dd wasn't happy with the result. She voted labour and is hoping of another general election

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/06/2017 19:12

Sorry for everyone who found yesterday's exams tough.

When does everyone's dc finish for the summer? dd finishes 7th July. That's really soon!

OP posts:
Iamastonished · 10/06/2017 19:17

DD is in state education so she doesn't finish until 25th July. She still has a week of study leave left so we are going on a short city break.

She has to go to a UCAS convention next Friday though.

chocolateworshipper · 10/06/2017 19:22

DD finishes on 13th July.

Does anyone know if AS level results come out the same day as A levels i.e. 17th August?

offblackeggshell · 10/06/2017 19:26

DD has a week off, then a week of work experience (tailored to what she wanted to do a year ago, but not now!) then Y13 timetable till school finishes on the 21st I think of July. I think she will basically hibernate next week, because most of her friends still have further maths to do.

FantasyAndHope · 10/06/2017 20:01

Dd finishes 7th July but she'll be home before that as she has many hospital apps

Icouldbeknitting · 10/06/2017 20:28

AS results come out with A level results.

Sixth form college (state) finishes on July 7th which means we can have a cheaper family holiday before the six week holiday starts. Whoopee. I've checked the date at least five times because I keep having a dream where I got it wrong and have to write a grovelling letter for booking a holiday in term time. He finishes Friday lunchtime and we're away on the Saturday.

UrsulaPandress · 10/06/2017 20:29

5th July here.

And yes. AS results same as A Levels.

Iamastonished · 10/06/2017 20:31

Are most of you in Scotland or private education then?

The schools and colleges in our LA don't break up until 25th July.

UrsulaPandress · 10/06/2017 20:33

We always used to think Whoopee. Cheaper holidays before other schools finish. But she never had anyone to play with.
