chocolate the skills and coping strategies she has learned through CBT etc will stand her in good stead.

Littledrummergirl · 28/04/2017 22:30

Sorry, got to post- ds1 has been offered a place at summer school by Sutton trust! I am so happy for him. Grin

TheSecondOfHerName · 28/04/2017 22:35

That's great news littledrummergirl
It'll be an amazing opportunity for him.

eatingtomuch · 29/04/2017 14:18

My DS also been offered a summer school with the Sutton Trust. I'm really excited for him. It'll be a great opportunity to sample uni life Smile

Littledrummergirl · 29/04/2017 14:37

Thank you the second. Thats brilliant eating. Is he excited at all? Ds1 has tried to put it out of his mind but is now rereading the info and getting excited. It is going to be a fantastic experience. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/04/2017 14:40

Awesome stuff LDR and Eating :) well done to both of them.

TheSecond, I hope the interview goes well!

eatingtomuch · 29/04/2017 14:51

Yes he is excited, little drummer. Great opportunity for them both.

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/04/2017 15:06

The interview did not go well and he was eliminated after the first round. He was unable to complete his individual presentation due to his social anxiety. Sad

Oh well, at least he has added to his interview experience.

FantasyAndHope · 29/04/2017 16:18

I've really fallen off the thread due to various issues with dd. Will catch up soon!
In the meantime dd has had a cyst for about 8 weeks 7 weeks uninflected gp put her on pill. Easter holidays she felt depressed due to it.
This past week it has turned infected and dd has being at hospitals near her school they've found it harder to treat her because she's not registered in that area. She was put on antibiotics got worse this weekend. So I took her to A&E today and have an appointment to have it looked at and possibly removed. She is very unwell 🤒

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/04/2017 17:09

TheSecond, your poor ds :( he's clearly meant for better things than a rotten old attractions job. dd says that all of her friends who have been applying for jobs recently have been rejected. It's a tough market.

Dreams, good to have you back. I'm sorry that your dd has been unwell. I hope they can get her sorted out the poor love,

Littledrummergirl · 29/04/2017 17:54

The second tell him not to be downhearted. My first proper job was on a holiday park and it was horrible. I wouldn't recommend that environment to my dc. At least he knows what he can work on before he gets an interview for a job he really does want.

Fantasy that's horrible -I've had two cysts in the past that became infected and they were very painful. I had the first one drained under anaesthetic, the second burst by itself so do keep an eye on her. The timing is terrible. Sad

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/04/2017 18:23

Fantasy I hope the cyst gets sorted soon. Your poor DD.

Thank you for the kind words about DS1. He had applied for a tour guide job at the Harry Potter studios, and they have a lot of people applying, so I think he did well to get invited in for the group interview. He said that none of the candidates in his mini group got through to the next stage, so he didn't have to leave alone.

We also now know more about the process for when his younger siblings apply (which they all want to).

FantasyAndHope · 29/04/2017 22:32

thankyou for the kind words. Spent much of the day in hospital. It is no longer a cyst but an abcess and will be looked at tuesday. if it decreases it should be local if it doesn't it will be general. This is it currently

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/04/2017 23:00

Ouch!

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/04/2017 00:17

That looks really painful fantasy. Your poor dd!!

HesMyLobster · 30/04/2017 01:31

Oh Fantasy your poor dd, i hope it gets sorted quickly, it must be so painful Sad

Second - that is my actual dream job! We live too far away but as I keep telling the dc, once they're both off to uni I'm quitting teaching, packing my bags and moving there! Only 4 years to go . . Wink

Congratulations to the successful Sutton Trust dcs - what a brilliant opportunity for them.

DD has had a week of mocks (or assessments/tests/quizzes . . Pick a label that takes the pressure off! Grin)
and has come out of it still smiling, so not as horrific as expected.
Although she's put in a good few hours of revision today so it seems to have highlighted her weak spots.

She's set aside tomorrow to finally finish the EPQ once and for all - did her presentation this week which apparently went "ok" and final final final hand in deadline for the whole thing is Tuesday. Think she'll be relieved when she can no longer tweak and fiddle with bits of the dissertation.
Not sure I'll be recommending it to dd2. She's enjoyed it, and I'm sure she's developed some important skills for independent learning, but it has been SO time consuming that I wonder if it was really worth it.

How have other dcs found it?

Icouldbeknitting · 30/04/2017 08:29

TheSecond it's good that the entire group failed to progress, it shows how competitive it must have been. I feel for him though, at his age I was unable to ring the bell on the bus to get off and was on edge waiting for someone else to show signs of getting off. I did a lot of walking after getting off too early/too late but I would rather do that than draw attention to myself by standing up and pushing the bell. I haven't thought about that in years.

lobster I know DS well enough to have advised him to nope right out of any suggestions of EPQ. He would have faffed with it all the way through and then panicked at the end.

fantasy it's nice to see you back but I wish your news were better. Ouch.

TheDrsDocMartens · 30/04/2017 09:19

Dd1 is loving her EPQ.

That looks horrendous *fantasy' poor lass

FantasyAndHope · 02/05/2017 11:50

Dd is being operated on this afternoon local anaesthetic. He said she could have general but I told her before going in take local its easier. She's not happy but I think that's because she's being told her eyelid will be sliced and they squeeze it out. She is nervous and worried.

eatingtomuch · 02/05/2017 11:53

Really feel for your DD Fantasy. Hope she feels better soon.

Littledrummergirl · 02/05/2017 15:09

Hope its all going ok fantasy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/05/2017 15:14

She will feel so much better in a couple of days Fantasy. Im glad they are sorting it out nice and quickly.

TheSecondOfHerName · 02/05/2017 15:23

Lobster when you move nearer Leavesden for the job we can meet for a coffee! Grin

Fantasy hope your DD makes a quick recovery after the procedure.

offblackeggshell · 02/05/2017 16:55

DD had her first exam today. Spoken Spanish. It went "reasonably well". I think that's good. Hmm

FantasyAndHope · 02/05/2017 17:39

All done. She walked out and burst into tears it did hurt and I could tell as she has fillings without local anaesthetic and is fine
