new thread so we don't get lost. Well done to all our dc whether doing btech (or breach as autocorrect prefers to call it) or a levels. 1/6 of the way through this year. (blimey)

Good news: happened to bump into the Deputy Head on the last day of term and asked him for a quick update on DS1. The increased effort has been noticed, and they're happy for him to stay.

TheDrsDocMartens · 22/12/2016 04:23

Good news second must be a relief!

Icouldbeknitting · 22/12/2016 06:44

That's good TheSecond, it's not something that you want hanging over you at Christmas.

I did the last of my wrapping up yesterday, announced this proudly to my husband and then picked up my knitting, which is socks for my mother for Christmas. At least they are finished now even if they aren't wrapped yet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/12/2016 07:48

That's brilliant TheSecond :)

Wonderful news!

Merry Christmas everyone. Xmas Grin

I hope everybody is happy with everything they got, dcs and parents.

Dd didn't have much to actually open because her present is a ton of driving lessons, which are booked for the new year. She also got money towards her trip from grandparents (which I think it's helping her feel less stressed about being able to raise the money to go). She bought lovely thoughtful presents for the rest of us, came through to our bedroom to open stockings at 7:30 when dd2 woke up, and has generally been delightfully festive before retiring to her bedroom to eat chocolate and message her friends. It's a lovely day in the Awesome Dragon household if you ignore dh swearing at Lego in the corner

Hi all

Have only just found this thread - I used to post on the Year 11 thread. It's back to the same old story of non revision. DS scraped through his GCSEs with me dragging him screaming and kicking, over the finishing line. He was probably a grade down on most subjects due to non revision. He's now "doing" A Levels but I've yet to see him do ANY work whatsoever and he has mocks coming up.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2016 15:20

A belated Merry Christmas MrsAD! I'm glad your dd is feeling better about raising the money.

Welcome back to the throng FourMan. How frustrating! Have you had any feed back from your ds' college?
I'm bemused by the idea of mocks. dds college said they've covered just over half the work for this year, which gave a nice way marker.

We've had parents' eve but it was so early on in the year that it was too soon to really see the chickens heading home to roost. I left with a big piece of paper listing all the things he needed to hand in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2016 16:52

poo for you :( perhaps when he gets his mock results

Fourmantent · 30/12/2016 17:36

I am taking a back seat this time around - the GCSEs drove me to the brink. I am hoping that something will kick in and make him wake up and smell the coffee..... upcoming mock results perhaps.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2016 18:23

I think that's the best way, at some point if it's going to happen it has to come from him. It's weird to think our kids are almost adults now.

Happy new year!
Hope this year is less stressful exam wise. Ds is taking the ib diploma so just has one set of exams in May as he is taking German early.
He's back on the 9th and has not had much work for the holidays, just reading for English - 1984 and Persepolis.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/01/2017 09:31

Happy New Year Shanghai!

I think dd has a full set of AS levels this year, but hopefully they won't be too bad. Fingers crossed! She didn't get too much assigned work over Christmas.

OP posts:
Icouldbeknitting · 01/01/2017 10:27

DS has two AS levels this year, the middle of May doesn't seem that far away and that's because it isn't too far away. He had no homework over Christmas which is not surprising because he never has any, or rather he does but he does it all at college. I swing between "what are they doing at college?" and "it will all be fine".

Back to normal routine on Tuesday, I am so looking forward to the 6.20 alarm (no, not really). Happy New Year to everyone, we went out so I didn't start the day with a mountain of dirty plates and glassware which is never my favourite start to the new year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/01/2017 11:15

May isn't far away is it? Do we know when they finish?

I'm sure this time last year we were all talking about how much revision they were doing. I'm not sure whether we should be alarmed that we aren't!?

Happy New Year

I haven't looked at dates this year. DS1 had a weeks study leave before half term and 2 weeks after 2 years ago. School still does all AS levels so I imagine it will be similar for DD.

She is busy doing her Uniq statement today and revising for Mocks next week.

FantasyAndHope · 02/01/2017 21:49

Happy New year
Dd has done Her work for this term still has one more essay to do. She's not back till next week
She's been on a date today come back excited and I asked why and she said I had my first proper kiss 😂😂😂 I did laugh she's changed since beeen with him she's way more confident

muffinmonster · 03/01/2017 15:45

DS not back to school until next Tuesday. He is supposed to be working on his EPQ this week. Not sure about mocks. Blush

HesMyLobster · 03/01/2017 15:53

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break.
I've been back at school today (inset) children are all back tomorrow.
DD has 'study leave' this week and next, and only has to go into school for mock exams, which are roughly one per day.
She has spent a lot of the holiday revising, to the point where I was bargaining with her to drag her away from her desk to see family, do activities etc.
I think it's a bit mean having them straight after Christmas.

Icouldbeknitting · 03/01/2017 18:07

HesMyLobster we have the same dates - college open today, teaching starts tomorrow. This was why the college bus didn't turn up when DS was standing at the bus stop this morning. I do so love getting up at 6.20 for no reason.

I don't miss the stress of Y11 at all. Is it worse for them this year as they are another year of guinea pigs with the change to 1-9 grades?

NoHaudinMaWheest · 03/01/2017 18:42

Happy New Year everyone.

Dd went back today. She has mock exams next week but doesn't seem to bothered about them. She did totally forget until last night that she has a history assignment to be handed in tomorrow morning so a full on evening tonight I think.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2017 21:14

knitting, it's def worse for the year 11s this year. Poor sods.

Thursday for dd, I'm back to work, but don't have to get up so early when she's at home. I am so not looking forward to thursday :(

mocks after Christmas are mean. Plus they can't have covered more than half the course surely? dd has tests at the end of the month, but there clearly has been no thought going into them!

derektheladyhamster · 04/01/2017 08:49

I have my head in the sand about the mocks next week. I don't fully understand what they mean or why they have them

ShanghaiDiva · 04/01/2017 09:30

It's a bit weird having mocks for AS exams when they have only covered half the course. Ds took AS maths last year with his GCSEs and the mock exam only covered C1 and C2 as they had not even started S1 at that stage. It was definitely a squeeze to fit everything in and he had compulsory after school maths club for several weeks to get through all the material as only had three maths lesson per week.
Now he is taking the IB he had end of term exams before Xmas so was able to relax over the Xmas break.
