I'd like to join please. Will post my list in the morning. I should really be asleep now!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/01/2026 09:30

Thanks @SquirrelFan I had to have surgery on it, which has set me back but hopefully will mean it’s better in the long term.

DP managed to find a veggie haggis yesterday, so we’re going to have it on Sunday with neeps. I’ve never tried whisky sauce but DP could probably be persuaded to try making one.

There are some fantastic ideas in recent posts. I'll need to keep these in mind but this week is all about using up odds and sods - apart from Sunday/Monday where I really fancy ham, as I didn't have this at all over christmas and new year this year.

Tomorrow: Coq au vin blanc
Sunday: Baked glazed ham, broccoli and cheese, roast potatoes
Monday: Ham, egg and chips
Tuesday: Mushroom ramen
Wednesday: Roasted pepper and chorizo pasta
Thursday: Chicken kiev, wedges, peas and broccoli
Friday: Veggie fajitas

Sitting on a delayed train and building the plan around the collection of bold bean company jars we seem to have acquired in the pantry!

Saturday: DH’s mac’n’cheese with green beans
Sunday: DS making his weekly risotto (think I’ll steer him in the direction of melty courgettes and Parmesan)
Monday: build your own ramen bowl
Tuesday: spag bol for DH and DD, prawns with cannellini beans and feta for DS and I
Wednesday: butter beans braised in fennel and leeks
Thursday: undecided but fancy fish so might copy one of the plans above and either do fillets with ratatouille or tandoori salmon
Friday: I’m out so the family can sort themselves out!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/01/2026 10:31

So far we’ve got:

veggie haggis with neeps, green beans and whisky sauce
Thai green curry with green beans, baby corn and cashews
cheesy mushroom pasta bake of some sort with spinach added
Maybe pitta bread pizzas with Caesar salad
Will sort it properly later today.

EDIT DS wants risotto with tofu (random) so we’ll do a miso risotto with edamame and sesame seeds and pan fried tofu crumbles. Random but I think it could work

I get really’’twitchy’ about crossing cuisines like this! But if you cooked plain rice and then added fried tofu, edamame etc with maybe a spicy soy/chilli/miso or gochugang/honey drizzle it would be lovely.

Citygirlrurallife · 30/01/2026 11:33

I normally do too but it’s part of his risotto education - am getting him to make one a week until half term until he totally nails it - and he decided he wanted to change it up a bit so we’ll give it a go! He’s done butternut squash and goat cheese, mushroom, and salmon and broccoli which have all incorporated different elements on top of the basic risotto so with this the extra skills are knowing when and how much miso to add and how to marinate and pan fry tofu properly

😂Good work!

BiddyPopthe2nd · 30/01/2026 13:02

I didn’t make cauliflower cheese yet or do the salmon, but had 2 more freezer meals (pasta bake and chicken vadagam). And now need to travel tonight for the weekend unexpectedly.

I’ll only be back for 4 nights next week and no chance to food shop properly so freezer and cupboards week again. Which I’ll figure out when I get home - although I’ll probably do cauliflower cheese on Sunday when I land as relatively easy, unless I bring something with me.

murasaki · 30/01/2026 13:05

Dp is away for 3 days next week, so I get to eat all the fish and all the mushrooms. Now to source recipes for my days of yum! N.b. I am not mad and don't eat those things together....

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 30/01/2026 13:25

Tonight is bacon and pepper chowder with olive pave bread. This was am urgent change to planned menu as partner unexpectedly bought the bread.... drives me nuts when he does things like this!
Sat: duck breasts and potato gratin, broccoli, asparagus
Sun: beef featherblade steaks with cauliflower cheese and roasted veg
Mon: tortellini and sauce
Tues: bread crusted cod loins with homemade tartar sauce
Wed: Coq au vin... slimming world recipe
Thur: lemon pork balls in tomato sauce with orzo
Fri: lasagne (mixture from batch bake in freezer which is 3/4 veg and lentils) and garlic bread
Feels good to be organised, as long as partner doesn't decide to buy anything errant!
All ingredients in fridge, freezer or cupboard.

BlueskiesandPoppies · 30/01/2026 14:04

We dont generally have dessert but have bought cave aged goats cheese and pears to have with a relish as a weekend supper

SpaceOP · 30/01/2026 14:36

I'm giving up on meal planning. I think the WLI are starting to impact me - I still feel hungry and enjoy good food, and I don't mind cooking. But I think I've lost the will to actually PLAN and think about meals ahead of time. Because I don't have any particular preferences in mind.

ETA obviously I'm not really giving up. But I am definitely feeling BLEUGH and wanted to whine.

murasaki · 30/01/2026 14:43

I guess that's the food noise cutting out, which is a good thing on one level! I only plan for financial reasons really, and to keep it relatively varied across a week. It's not something I enjoy per se, though i enjoy eating it.

murasaki · 30/01/2026 14:44

I was wasting too much veg and fresh stuff so planning cuts that down.

MinnieMountain · 30/01/2026 16:06

@Citygirlrurallife could you give me your butter bean recipe please?

Citygirlrurallife · 30/01/2026 17:53

UnimaginableWindBird · 31/01/2026 14:51

I'm feeling a bit run down and with lots going on over the next few weeks, so I'm going for easy food that doesn't take a lot of prep, and ordering some back-up fish fingers just in case.

Sunday: roast chicken
Monday: pasta alla Norma
Tuesday: salmon and greens
Wednesday: tofu stirfry
Thursday: sausage traybake
Friday: pizza
Saturday:omelettes
