What are your favourite recipes from Nigella’s books, ideally either sweet or vegetarian.

I like her vegetable chilli and mattar paneer recipes, although I add lots more spices to the latter.

Her Chocolate Guinness cake is magnificent.

Her peanut butter and snickers muffins, Coca Cola cake and mackerel spaghetti are the recipes I’ve made the most.

gingercat02 · 23/11/2025 18:17

Greek lamb stew, Gigot boulangiere, meatballs are all favourites here

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2025 18:21

Thanks. I don’t eat meat or fish though.

I haven’t seen the Coca Cola cake - googling now!

The ham cooked in Coca Cola is very good. I don’t like the choc Guinness cake but her chocolate loaf cake in Domestic Goddess is a lovely cake.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2025 18:58

The chocolate loaf cake looks good.

I’m vegetarian, so the ham is out.

The melt in the middle chocolate puddings receive rave reviews whenever I make them (edit: she calls them molten chocolate baby cakes). Her chocolate brownies have also received "best ever" brownies reviews from friends, though I do adapt them slightly. I also love the Guinness cake. Haven't made that one for ages.

The cheese fondue is delicious in Nigella Express.

mondaytosunday · 23/11/2025 19:01

Sorry not veggie but her chilli, curry in a hurry from her Express book is what we make regularly. I don’t think I’ve tried her desserts (last thing I need is to find a yummy dessert).

She does an amazing roasted cauliflower and chickpea salad in the simply nigella book and sweet potato tacos in at my table are both great veggie recipes (I make the salad all the time) also the sweet potato and butternut squash curry in at my table is lovely. I have made the Yule log recipe in her Christmas book every year for about 10 years as it's gluten free and really easy to do on Christmas eve.

LostittoBostik · 23/11/2025 19:18

Her Fear Free Fish Stew is amazing

Thanks for these. I'll check them out.

This tortilla mexica lasagna is absolutly delicious and we all eat it as a meat eating household, even though its vegetarian. www.nigella.com/recipes/tortilla-lasagne

Malteser cake
Maple syrup cake
Pistachio macaroons
Red cabbage from the Christmas book
Chocolate olive oil cake

Sgtmajormummy · 23/11/2025 19:45

I made her puréed clementines and almond flour cake yesterday- it tastes like a moist marmalade cake but has no butter in it. It was even better the next day.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2025 19:55

Fantastic. Thanks for all of these.

Still making the molten chocolate baby cakes two decades on.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/11/2025 20:00

I love her Parmesan shortbreads - I always make them at Christmas.

AlphabetBird · 23/11/2025 20:03

The Christmas cake from domestic goddess, lilys scones, Madeira cake, chocolate Guinness cake. I read her books like novels though, I absolutely love them.

So cake, mostly 😁

SparklyBrickViper · 23/11/2025 20:06

Clementine Cake.

Old rag pie

Butternut squash and sweet potato curry

Turkish eggs

PENNE ALLA VODKA

GumFossil · 23/11/2025 20:07

I’m not a cook, but the only thing I make on repeat is her cocktail sausages with honey, soy and sesame oil. They get hoovered up every time.

This. They are ridiculously easy but look like something you've spent hours slaving over.

Completely agree. People ooh and ahh over them and think you've produced something incredibly difficult when the only real difficulty is getting the damned things out their little tins. I now use washing up gloves for the appropriate combination of dexterity without instantly burning myself.

beckslovestimmy · 23/11/2025 22:13

Her white chocolate cheese cake is lovely.

Souredgrapes · 23/11/2025 22:17

Lilly’s Scones are the best scones I’ve ever made , seen or tasted.

joanofaardvark · 23/11/2025 22:20

pear & ginger muffins (from the express book) - you can also substitute cinnamon and apple and add a bit of milk as apple is drier than pear.
Sorry these are non-veggie:
Mirin salmon (from Express)
prawn curry - with supermarket pre-cubed butternut and sweet potato (from Express)
Chicken alla Romana - from her website
There's also a gingerbread/cake recipe with a lemon icing that I sub for regular icing or it's too many flavours IMO - that might be in Domestic Goddess. I tend to only make it at Xmas in a tree-shaped mould so can't remember it very well!

I own Delia, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and Mary berry cook books plus a load of non celeb ones and Nigella is my favourite by far. Easy but comes out as a showstopper. Foolproof (although the Pear & ginger muffin recipe contains a typo and the amount of sour cream should be a 142ml pot (the smallest size) not a 42ml pot as the recipe states.)

(edited for typo)

Waitaminutewheresmejumper · 23/11/2025 22:20

Her pizza dough is great.

Love the salmon and squash curry.
