Your favourite shop bought jam

Visited a friend at the weekend who made gorgeous scones, served with the most delicious Bonne Maman strawberry and wild strawberry conserve, the tastiest jam I’ve had in a long time. . We don’t have jam often so when we do, I am happy to pay a bit more, and will be buying some.

Got me wondering what other little gems are out there. I know home made is usually best and I do sometimes make / buy at artisan markets but am thinking brands readily available in supermarkets.

What are your favourites? We have most supermarkets nearby, but no Booths.

Thanks

Lidl black cherry with sloe.
Loganberry but can't remember the maker. May be Tiptree.
Blackcurrant or damson or gooseberry by my late grandmother.

I haven't seen loganberry jam for years
DH had some in Betty's TeaRoom in York with a croissant and raved about it .
I found some Tiptree Loganberry but not for many years .

Are Tiptree and Wilkins the same ?

( I just googled and answered my own question ....Tiptree is the farm , Wilkins is the family . Mystery Solved )

Thanks for your research; I had wondered, idly, what the connection was.

IcantfindanewnameThanks for the reminder of Krakus. No other jam was eaten in our house when I was growing up and it was rigorously tracked down by the entire family, (including the pickled cucumbers).

St Dalfour without a doubt. Although the long, thin jar is annoying.

There's no added sugar (obviously there's loads of fruit sugar) so it's not overly sweet like a lot of them and you really taste the fruit.

Oh , I recognise this one , I used to buy it for my Dad when they visited me ., he had diabetes and this had no added sugar . I remember the jar being thin but luckily I have long latte spoons to reach in,
It's quite £ though

@TellMeItsNotTrue had a quick google and the AI result says this …..

Little Scarlet jam is more expensive because the specific Little Scarlet strawberry it uses is a rare, tiny wild variety that is incredibly difficult and time-consuming to grow and pick, with Wilkin & Sons believed to be the sole commercial grower worldwide. The fruit's rarity, unique intense flavor, and the labor-intensive process required to harvest the small berries contribute to the high cost of this signature conserve.

are you going to order some ? 🍓🍓

Thankyou, yea I think I will splurge and try a jar 😂 you only live once, and tiptree has not let me down yet!

The gingerbread caramel spread may have helped to twist my arm and place an order 😋 looking forward to trying that too!

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 24/08/2025 10:27

I’ve just ordered two pots of Little Scarlett.
It really is the world’s nicest jam.
So hard to find in shops so am very pleased to find out I can buy direct online.

I made a Victoria sponge for my mum’s birthday and used the Lidl Maribel premium strawberry conserve for the jam and everyone was raving about how lovely it was.

DD recently bought a Bangs strawberry jam (or erdbeere if you actually look at the label) somewhere totally random and that was rather nice too. They do quite a few unusual flavours so I’ll have to find them and try some of the others.

The Mackays jam factory is actually in my town so I really should shop there more. Blush

BeaLola · 25/08/2025 12:54

I'm a Bonne Maman blackcurrant fan but the Aldi blackcurrant is lovely too

CalzoneOnLegs · 25/08/2025 13:30

@Mrsmunchofmunchington what are you planning on using the LS for, my choice would be scones and clotted cream ❤️🐷

Scones are in the freezer, poised!

CalzoneOnLegs · 25/08/2025 13:50

@Mrsmunchofmunchington right so! Warmed and optimum ready for loading up

i think you should go for the proper afternoon tea with egg mayo and watercress sandwiches ❤️

BM is the best, but surprisingly the high fruit ‘Maribel’ ones in Lidl are good. Only three varieties though.

love the BM marmalade too 🍊

I was just trying to remember the Lid brand! I love BM blackcurrant and the Maribel blackcurrant jam is just as good and a lot cheaper.

Nevertrustacop · 28/08/2025 10:06

Tiptree, especially strawberry and champagne. Tiptree jams can be bought direct from the company and delivered. Or from the Tiptree tea rooms dotted about in Essex.

CherryRipe1 · 28/08/2025 14:48

I just bought the Maribel raspberry jam from Lidl. Looking forward to trying it, it's cheap @ £1.85 a jar. I see they do marmalade too, anyone tried it?

CalzoneOnLegs · 28/08/2025 17:43

@CherryRipe1 a long while ago now, I love the BM marmalade now and the sainsburys triple citrus one. I would imagine it’s perfectly lovely though

Oh ok thanks! I thought you meant B&M at first! Bonne Mamman. Ooh the Sainsbury's one sounds scrummy.

CalzoneOnLegs · 28/08/2025 20:35

@CherryRipe1 It is lovely, 🍋🍊and grapefruit - just remembered the marks and Spencer pink grapefruit Marmalade is also gorgeous

HarryVanderspeigle · 28/08/2025 20:49

Recently had a jar of BM caramelised apple conserve, which was delicious. Conserves I find are nicer than jam and taste more of the fruit, but go off much quicker when opened. The sugar content of jam keeps it from going off.

Oh. My. Word!

ordering right now!!

advent calendar arrived today. 1st December feels a long time away...

Comtesse · 16/10/2025 12:46

Shop jam is nowhere near as nice as home made - but Bonne Maman greengage / reine claude is good.
